"What do you mean magically disappeared?!"
Nicholas gripped his hair from anger and frustration.
"Y-young master, our troops were trailing her yesterday. But after the failed attempt to kidnap her, they never returned. We haven't heard from them ever since."
Nicholas took deep breaths to calm himself. "What about the agents who are going to ruin their business? Did they arrive in her country yet?!"
"T-t-that . . . W-well, after they landed, t-they too . . . magically disappeared."
Nicholas gritted his teeth and looked like he might hit the other person if he was in front of him. "Useless pieces of shits! What do I pay you millions for?!"
"Y-young master, I-I think someone is protecting the girl from the shadows, a-and that someone is extremely powerful. I-I think we should rethink about this."
"FOOL! She's a freaking farmer's daughter! Who could be protecting her?!"
"B-b-but, young master we tried hacking into her information, but instead, we were attacked by an unknown virus. That virus was so potent and aggressive that it erased all our data and caused our system to explode, leaving no trace of the virus behind. It will take at least a year or two to recover everything."
Nicholas roughly gasped for air.
"Fix that fucking system in a fucking month or your fucking corpses will be the one to explode next!"
Nicholas then ended the call.
He took a large intake of air to calm his boiling rage.
He refused to believe that he couldn't handle a simple country girl.
"Leanna . . . I swear after I'm finished with you, your body and mind will be so battered no one would recognize you. Not even your family."
He felt the aching of his cock by just the thought of her. Luckily, the doctor said he could still perform and have children.
He released another sigh of relief. His relieved face, however, warped in an evil perverted grin. But the knock on the door reverted him to his gentleman façade.
"Come in."
The door opened, and Zoe came in. She sat on the chair beside his bed without uttering a single word.
Nicholas frowned, when for a moment, he couldn't recognize the girl.
"Zoe? What happened to your hair? It's just the first day of school, and yet, you already look like . . ." Nicholas paused, finding the right words to describe her.
After a short time of thinking, he gestured his hand to all of her when his mind drew a blank. "This!"
Shaking his head, he huffed a laugh. "I know that the shock of me breaking our engagement would cause you to be depressed. But . . . this?!"
Zoe raised an eyebrow. "I just reverted to the way I usually am before all this shit happened," she said, ignoring Nicholas's disdainful glare at her for using vulgar words.
"Zoe, I know you hate me. But you don't have to force yourself to say such words just to spite me."
Zoe gaped at him. How did I even fell in love with this kind of self-loving man in the first place? I must be so stupid.
"I don't hate you," she said, voice flat as her expression. "I just lost all respect for you."
Nicholas was taken aback and couldn't react.
Zoe continued with a serious face, "Anyway, I'm not here to exchange pretense with you. I'm here to extort you money."
Nicholas shook his head as he laughed under his breath.
"Zoe, what are you even saying?"
When Zoe didn't laugh, Nicholas restrained a snort as he smiled. "Alright, how much do you want? Take it as me apologizing for breaking our engagement."
Then he chuckled and grinned. But his grin was replaced by a frown when Zoe mentioned a jaw-dropping price.
