Glitters rained around the miniature married couple to mimic snow. The two small statues inside the snow globe were holding hands as they both flashed their brightest and widest smiles. The bride was made to look like Eun Young while the groom was made in his image. It was one of the souvenirs for their guests during the day they got married.
Lightly, Min Jae shook the snow globe once more before placing it back on top of his desk. The disturbance sent the glitters and white dust floating around the water creating a magical atmosphere for the two little statues. His eyes remained glued to the snow globe until a loud knock on the office doors caught his attention.
Kang Suk Ju entered the CEO's lair. It was late already and most of the employees have left after a long full day. He dropped by to check on Min Jae first to see how he was holding up. Min Jae seemed a bit unsettled earlier before the DNA test and the least he could was to be there for him. Suk Ju kept his hands on his pockets as he began to approach him.
"How did it go?" He attempted to casually ask.
Min Jae didn't reply right away. He ran a hand through his hair before helplessly leaning back on his chair. Finally, he sighed. "The genetic specialist said that it will take about a week before we get the results." He began. "G**d*** it! I can't f****** wait for another week anymore!" He cursed. Min Jae squinted as he pinched the bridge of his nose to prevent his frustrations from lashing out. The wait was really agonizing!
There was silence that lingered between them. Suk Ju was looking towards his friend's direction when he noticed the small snow globe sitting atop his desk filled with documents and contracts. If he could remember correctly, it was an item from their wedding day. He could only guess that Min Jae must've been looking at it before he entered.
After a while, Min Jae continued to speak, his gaze returning to the snow globe in front of him again. "I also came across Eun Young today." He confessed. "I was discussing my terms with Na Rae if the result comes out positive. However, it was at that moment when I saw Eun Young too. Rather... she was the one who saw us."
Suk Ju didn't need more clues and explanation to guess that their encounter with each other didn't go well. Ms. Choi was always an assertive woman and to imagine what she could've done to make everything worse was such a pain to even just think about. What more when he comes to see it himself?
Suk Ju was a bit startled when Min Jae abruptly stood up. Min Jae grabbed his car keys and after a few long strides, he went to grab his coat. "Where the hell are you going?" Suk Ju asked, surprised by Min Jae's sudden actions.
His reply was short. "Out for some drinks." He said, while swiftly wearing his coat. "Don't worry, I... I won't overdo it. I just wanted some alcohol in my system." Min Jae reassured him with guilt still evident in his voice. Of course, after what happened last time, he couldn't risk making the same mistake again.
Suk Ju sighed in relief. Glancing at Min Jae, he raised an eyebrow at him. "Then why the f*** aren't you inviting me? You bastard..." He said with smirk. "I'll come with you. And don't think for one second that I'll go easy on you just because I'm drinking too!" Suk Ju jokingly warned.
They went to one of the most famous bars in the district and gained entry to the VIP section. There were only a few people around and of course, the environment was less rowdy than that of the regular public area. The VIP section was mostly comprised by socialites in the city. The others were sons and daughters of politicians while the rest were heirs and heiresses of wealthy families.
Min Jae and Suk Ju sat for a few drinks by the bartender's counter. Min Jae's throat felt hot upon devouring the cold yet bitter liquid. It was exhilarating as the alcohol ignited adrenaline to rush in his veins that he went to consume a few more glasses. "Alright, I've had enough." Min Jae declared. His body still ached for him to drink some more but after feeling a bit dizzy, he knew he had to stop. He had to mark his limit.
Suk Ju chuckled at his declaration. "I didn't know you actually had self-control in you." He teasingly remarked. Min Jae then replied with a snort on his comment.
Unexpectedly, two young women suddenly approached them. They were wearing skin tight clothing that hugged their hourglass figures. Their busts were propped up and to look at them now would be a huge temptation. "Hello there gentlemen, mind if we join you?" The lady with tan skin asked with a seductive smirk on her cherry red lips.
Suk Ju nervously glanced at Min Jae. However, Min Jae was looking at his empty glass as if he didn't even hear anything. He was just sitting there calmly without a care in the world! Strange...
"Ladies, I'm sorry but we'll be out on our way so--" Suk Ju didn't even finish his sentence when the woman grabbed his hand and placed it on her waist. She then leaned against him and whispered in his ear. "Can't you stay, even for just a little while?"
The other woman also began making her move on the mysteriously silent man. She fought with her friend over him. And to see that he's not even turning to look at her frustrates her all the more. "Excuse me..." She said with a soft voice.
Just as she was about to tap his shoulder, Min Jae stood up and placed a few bills on the counter. "Keep the change." He said to the bartender. Afterwards, he then turned to look at the distressed Suk Ju. "Thanks for looking out for me. My wife's probably looking for me now so I'll go ahead." He bid, making sure that his voice was loud and clear enough for the woman beside him to hear. He spared her a glance though, only to send shivers down her spine with his intimidating frosty dark eyes.
That night, the alcohol had only kept his spirits up. His dizziness had long faded away and so he went around the city, aimlessly driving for hours. It's what he always does when he has so much in his mind.
After half an hour, he found himself parking in front of a newly built building. He stepped out into the cold snowy night as he looked at the skyscraper. From the bottom, Min Jae's gaze followed the building upward. He couldn't quite make out the top of it but nonetheless, he continued to stare at it. He had always restrained himself to visit them and so this was the first and the closest he would get. Even though he was still far from his family with this distance between them, to Min Jae this was already enough for now.
