Chapter 196 - Summoned Back to Li's Residence

Back in Li's Residence…

Zhao Wei and her daughter, Li Mu Chen stepped out of their vehicle and walked towards the mansion anxiously.

Earlier that morning, Zhao Wei received a phone call from her father-in-law, demanding her to bring her daughter to Li's Residence urgently.

Throughout their journey back to the mansion, Zhao Wei had tried to figure out the reason why they were both summoned back to Li's Residence unexpectedly. She had tried to raise the question to her daughter, but Li Mu Chen too could not figure out the reason why they were called back.

When the entered the door, Auntie Han, the housekeeper was the one who greeted them. "The Old Master is waiting for both of you in his study," she said.

Zhao Wei nodded. She took a step and paused when she noticed the nervous look on Auntie Han's face. "Auntie Han, what's wrong?"

Auntie Han lowered her gaze. "Madam, you better head into the Old Master's study room quickly."

"What is it all about?" Zhao Wei asked. "Auntie Han, do you know what is going on?"

"I don't know," Auntie Han answered. "But the Old Master has been like that after Young Master Mu Bai came to visit him."

Li Mu Chen's eyes widened as she heard the news. Her hands started to tremble as her mind made a wild guess at what was waiting for both of them.

"Mu Bai is here as well?" Zhao Wei asked with a smile. Obviously, she had not noticed the uneasy look on her daughter's face. "Mu Chen, come. Let's go."

Without letting her daughter refuse, Zhao Wei had already pulled her daughter upstairs to Chairman Li's study room. She knocked at the door and announced her presence. Seconds later, Li Mu Bai appeared at the door with a somber look on his face.

Before Zhao Wei could say anything to her son, she could hear her father-in-law's voice, asking them to come into the room quickly.

Once the door was shut, Li Ren Xin grabbed at the nearest item to him, a fountain pen on his desk, and threw it to Li Mu Chen.

Fortunately, Li Mu Chen was quick enough to dodge it. However, this action also caused the elderly man's anger to rise.

"Father, what's wrong?" Zhao Wei asked with her eyes wide as she pulled her daughter into her embrace.

"You're asking me?" Li Ren Xin spat. "Why don't you ask your daughter what she did?"

Zhao Wei tilted her head to look at her daughter, but Li Mu Chen remained trembling in her arms. Knowing that her daughter was not able to answer at the moment, Zhao Wei looked at her son for an answer. However, Li Mu Bai only looked away, not willing to answer.

Frustrated, Zhao Wei turned to her daughter again. "Mu Chen, what did you do?"

Li Mu Chen raised her head and shook her head as she looked at her mother with her teary eyes.

Zhao Wei took a deep breath. "Can someone tell me what is going on? Father, what did Mu Chen do that makes you this angry?"

Seeing that his sister had no intention to speak, Li Mu Bai finally decided to speak. "Last night, Mu Chen did something to irritate both Yao Yao and Director Zhang."

"Mom, I did not do anything," Li Mu Chen spoke quickly. Then, she shot a sharp look at her brother. Li Mu Chen gritted her teeth as her heart was filled with anger.

No matter what, she was Li Mu Bai's sister. It was fine if he chose not to side with her, but as a brother, how could he tell their grandfather what she did?

"You dare to mention the incident from two years ago to Director Zhang and you still say that you did not do anything?" Li Ren Xin shouted. "Are you trying to cause harm to the company?"

Zhao Wei looked at her daughter and felt a lump in her throat. From that short conversation, she could guess at what her daughter was trying to do. It was not hard to decipher from the way Li Mu Chen has been gazing at Director Zhang with infatuation once she found out about his identity.

She did not mind her daughter's actions. After all, everything is fair in love and war. If Mu Chen's plan worked, she might be able to have a strong man as Zhang Yu Han as her backing. However, now that her daughter had failed and her failure might implicate QL Group, Zhao Wei's was angered.

"Father, you can't be angry at Mu Chen," Zhao Wei said. No matter what, she needed to take on her daughter's side. "She's only a child."

Zhao Wei's words only raised Chairman Li's anger to another level. "A child! Mu Chen and Yao Yao were only a few months apart. If Mu Chen is a child, then what about Yao Yao?"

"Father," Zhao Wei had no way to counter her father-in-law's words.

Li Ren Xin took a deep breath and looked at the mother and daughter alternately. "I know that you and your mother have been eyeing that project in B City." His gaze stopped at Zhao Wei before he continued. "No matter what, I won't agree to let Mu Chen transfer to B City. Instead of helping Qin Yao, I'm afraid that Mu Chen will only cause more trouble than she did now."

Zhao Wei opened her mouth to protest, but then she bit her tongue to stop herself. She knew her father-in-law's temper well. If she said anything at this moment, everything will backfire.

Li Ren Xin grunted angrily before he walked towards the door and paused as he walked passed his granddaughter. "Li Mu Chen, listen up. From tomorrow onwards, you will no longer be in charge of that commercial hub project in the city."

Li Ren Xin's sudden decision shocked everyone in the room.

"Grandfather!" Li Mu Chen tried to plead, but quiet down with one look from her grandfather.

"I don't think you have what it takes to look after a project," Li Ren Xin said. "From tomorrow onwards, you will report to Manager Yan as his ȧssistant. Until I decided that you are good enough to return as a project manager, you will stay as Manager Yan's ȧssistant and learn from him."

Li Mu Chen's eyes dimmed with disappointment as she watched her grandfather left the room. She then grabbed at her brother's arms as he too tried to leave. "Brother, how could you?"

Zhao Wei who saw her daughter's angry expression quickly decipher what was going on between the siblings. "Mu Bai, you did this to your sister?" Zhao Wei looked at her son in disbelief. "She's your sister! You were supposed to protect her!"

Li Mu Bai glanced angrily at her sister. "At least I did not tell Grandfather how my sister was acting shamelessly towards Director Zhang." He turned to his mother and continued, "No matter what, I cannot allow her to do something that will put the company at a disadvantage."
