Chapter 231 - Manager Guo

That year, after she had asked a few people to investigate the accident, she found out that her aunt, Zhao Wei has been talking to the manager of Rising Company.

After talking with the manager, he had admitted to taking bribes to change the materials. Li Qin Yao had threatened to bring the manager to the police and after a while, the manager agreed to testify against her second aunt.

That manager was the person she had seen in Y City last night. Manager Guo.

Two years ago, a day before Manager Guo could testify against her second aunt, he disappeared, leaving his wife and daughter just like that.

Li Qin Yao had tried to find him, but could not find any lead. The investigators had suspected that perhaps Manager Guo was murdered and Li Qin Yao could not shake off this possibility until she had seen him again last night.

Even though the Manager Guo she saw last night had skinnier silhouette and hunched body, Li Qin Yao could still recognize his eyes. But because of their distance, she was not too sure.

When Li Qin Yao arrived at the office floor, Secretary Tian was waiting for her at the elevator as usual. This time, secretary Tian was not alone, and instead, Zhang Yu Ying was waiting with her.

"Sister-in-law!" Zhang Yu Ying greeted cheerily. She leaped into Li Qin Yao to give her a tight hug before she pulled away. "I heard you bought a wedding ring with my brother yesterday. Let me look." 

With a light chuckle, Li Qin Yao raised her hand to show it to Zhang Yu Ying.

"It's pretty." Zhang Yu Ying looked at the ring to admire it for a while. "You don't know this. But this morning, my brother has been walking around back and forth, trying to show off the ring on his finger."She clicked her tongue and continued, "You don't know how excited he was."

Li Qin Yao laughed as she tried to imagine Zhang Yu Han bragging to his sister. The two of them chatted a bit and Li Qin Yao asked, "We're going out for dinner later. Will you join us?"

"I can't. I was going out to meet a few friends after work," Zhang Yu Ying heaved a heavy sigh as she recalled the phone call she received from her friend, Xiao Ran last night. Zhang Yu Ying had thought that it was strange for Xiao Ran to give her a call. But once she heard that her brother had run into Xiao Ran yesterday, Zhang Yu Ying could guess at why Xiao Ran wanted to meet her.

A manager called Zhang Yu Ying and the girl excused herself to return to her work. 

Once Zhang Yu Ying went away, Secretary Tian turned to Li Qin Yao with a smile on her face. 

"Is Zhang Yu Han in the office?"

"Director Zhang was having a meeting with Chairman Zhang and Mister Wei from Lu & Wei in the Chairman's office," Secretary Tian said. "But, Director Zhang said that you should just come into his office when you arrive."

Li Qin Yao nodded. She walked into Zhang Yu Han's office and sat on the sofa to rest. Just as she thought that she would fall asleep while waiting for her husband, her phone rang. She saw from the caller ID that it was Bei Ruo Xi and immediately picked up the call. 

"Miss Li?" Bei Ruo Xi greeted as soon as the phone was connected.

"Have you heard anything?" Li Qin Yao asked.

"I contacted the investigator after your call this morning," Bei Ruo Xi said. "They went to Y City to check. After looking at the surveillance camera from the shopping mall, they thought that the man you saw last night might be Manager Guo."

Li Qin Yao's heart thumped with excitement at the news. "Did they find him?"

There was a brief silence before Bei Ruo Xi answered. "No. He did not show up to work today and once the investigator tried to find him at his place, the apartment was already empty. His neighbor mentioned that he had left last night. I guess Manager Guo might have seen you and ran."

Clenching her hand tightly into a fist, Li Qin Yao let out a long, disappointed sigh.

She should guess that the old man would run after he had seen her last night.

"I have forwarded their investigation report to your e-mail," Bei Ruo Xi said. "Miss Li, do you have any other instruction?"

Li Qin Yao massaged the space between her eyebrow as she thought about her next step. After a while, she spoke again. "Tell them to continue monitoring Manager Guo's wife and daughter. He may have contacted them. Tell them not to worry about the fee. I can pay for the price they're asking.."

Bei Ruo Xi nodded. "Alright."

"And Ruo Xi, I need you to continue to monitor my second aunt," Li Qin Yao continued. "It is possible that she had done something to make Manager Guo escape the last time. Perhaps, the two of them were still in contact with each other."

Once she had ended the phone call with her former ȧssistant, Li Qin Yao went to check on her e-mail to read the report from the investigator. Although they have acted fast, they could not find anything useful for Manager Guo at the moment.

Li Qin Yao closed her eyes as she lay on the sofa. She was momentarily excited when Bei Ruo Xi confirmed that the man she saw last night was indeed Manager Guo.

It was good that they finally found a new trail that might lead them to find Manager Guo again, but Li Qin Yao knew that she shouldn't be too hasty.

One slight mistake might cause her to lose everything.

When Li Qin Yao woke up again, her surrounding was dark. She looked around the room and realized that she had fallen asleep in Zhang Yu Han's office. As she tried to move, Li Qin Yao caught the blanket wrapped on her body.

"You're awake?"

Li Qin Yao turned to the voice and saw her husband at his desk. He was doing his work with only the light from his computer.

"What time is it?"

"Almost ten."

"What?" Li Qin Yao stood up suddenly. "Why didn't you wake me up?"

Zhang Yu Han smiled as he walked over to her. "I tried to. But it seemed that you were too tired to wake up. Are you hungry? Should we have supper?"

Zhang Yu Han picked up the blanket on the sofa and fold it nicely. "Someone called Bei Ruo Xi was looking for you earlier. I told you that you were asleep. She told me that she will call you tomorrow."

Li Qin Yao picked up her phone on the table and saw a message from Bei Ruo Xi, telling her that the investigator had agreed to continue working on the case. She let out a sigh and slumped back into the sofa.

"Qin Yao, is everything alright?"
