Chapter 260 - Have You Got No Conscience?

Zhao Wei was finally allowed to be bailout after spending a few days in jail. When she walked out of the police station, both Li Mu Bai and Li Mu Chen were waiting to pick her up.

When Li Mu Chen saw her mother's disheveled look, she immediately hugged her mother and cried. Li Mu Bai followed her sister closely and looked at his mother with concern.

However, Zhao Wei was not concern about her crying daughter. She pulled away from her daughter and held out her hand. "Mu Chen, did you bring my phone? Give it to me."

Li Mu Chen sniffed before she took out her mother's phone from her bag. Then, she watched as her mother frantically dialed a number. She pressed the phone to her ears and waited. But it doesn't seem that the other person on the line was going to pick up her call.

Zhao Wei repeated the action a few more times before she flung the phone in her hand. The device hit the ground and cracked.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Li Mu Chen wiped the streaming tears on her cheek.

Zhao Wei took a few deep breaths as she tried to calm down. She should have known that those thugs will break off contact once they found out that she was no longer useful to them.

As she continued to stare at her broken phone, the anger in her eyes gradually dimmed. When she looked up again, Zhao Wei realized then realized that they were still at the police station.

"Mom, what's wrong with you?" Li Mu Chen continued to ask.

"Stop crying," Zhao Wei reprimanded. She grabbed her daughter's arms and tugged her forward. "Let's go. I don't want to stay here for too long."

"Oh," Li Mu Chen nodded.

"Wait," Zhao Wei stopped on her tracks and turned to look at her children. "Tell me what has been going on while I was in jail."

"Mom, let's talk once we get home," Li Mu Bai spoke. "It is not suitable to talk here. Besides, Dad is still waiting for us at home."

"Alright," Zhao Wei quickly agreed to her son's suggestion, and soon, the three of them were sitting in Li Mu Bai's vehicle as he drove them back home.

The drive back to their house was filled with nothing but Li Mu Chen's constant complaints at how their family was treating them.

Li Mu Bai tightened his grip on the steering wheel as he glanced at his mother through the mirror. His expression changed as various thoughts went through his mind. If anyone looked at his face carefully, they would notice the apparent disappointment in his expression.

He could not describe the feeling he had towards her mother right now. He was too shocked the first time he heard the rumors and scandal surrounding his mother.

Although he knew that his mother could be unreasonable sometimes, Li Mu Bai did not believe that the rumors reported was the truth. As her son, how could he not want to take his mother's side?

However, the rumors soon proved to be the truth. His grandfather had called him out and talked to him on this matter face-to-face. Even if he did not want to believe it, Li Mu Bai could not look away from the evidence.

His mother had done a lot of wrongs.

Li Mu Bai had a lot of words to say and a lot of questions he wanted to ask his mother, but at this time, he could only choose to keep everything to himself.

Li Mu Bai took a couple of deep breaths before he followed everyone inside. When he stepped in into the house, Li Mu Bai could hear something crashed on the ground followed by his mother's ear-piercing scream.

"Li Jing, I'm telling you that I will not agree to this!' Zhao Wei shouted at her husband.

Li Mu Bai glanced at the scattered paper on the floor and guessed at what they were. The expression on his face did not change even if he saw the word 'divorce' written on the paper.

"Dad," Lu Mu Chen pleaded with her face full of tears. "You and mom have been married for so many years. Why do you want to divorce my mom right now?"

"You shut up," Li Jing pointed his finger at his daughter. "Go to your room. This is between your mother and me."

Li Mu Chen opened her mouth to speak but stopped herself as she recalled what her father would do if he was angered. After standing still for a few seconds, Li Mu Chen then turned around and headed upstairs to her room.

Meanwhile, Li Mu Bai stood still behind the walls as he observed his parents quietly. As their son, Li Mu Bai was worried about what will happen. He decided to stay around and intervene when he needed to.

"Li Jing, you cannot do this to me," Zhao Wei cried.

"This is not a discussion. Zhao Wei, you have no say in this matter. I have already filed for divorce. My dad was already informed of this. No matter what you think about it, we will divorce," Li Jing said. "You don't have to worry too much. Since we have been married for years, I will naturally divide our ȧssets well."

Zhao Wei took a deep breath and walked over to her husband. "Why?"

"Do you still need to question that?" Li Jing sneered. "Zhao Wei, Yao Yao is my niece. She is my eldest brother's only child. How can you be so ruthless to try and harm her? Have you got no conscience? I'm afraid that if I continue to let you do whatever you like, you will bring more harm to my family. Before anything like that could happen, I should divorce you."

"Li Jing! Don't you know why I did the things I did?" Zhao Wei tried to reason with her husband. "I was doing everything for our family. I only wanted the best for our children!"

"Shut up!" Li Jing balled his hands into fists to control his anger before he would land a slap on her face. "Don't you dare say that you were doing anything for our children. Everything you do, it was for yourself. Zhao Wei, do you think of me as an idiot? Do you think that I did not know of your feelings towards my late elder brother?"

Zhao Wei stiffened as she heard his words and her eyes started to shift. "I don't know what you were talking about."

"Of course you do. I might agree to marry you because my parents like you, but don't think that I didn't know that the reason you agreed to marry me was that you wanted revenge. You were mad that my brother chose Yao Yao's mom instead of you, right?" Li Jing chuckled mockingly when he saw the change of expression on her face. "Who do you think I am? Do you think I wouldn't able to find out about something like this? What? Now you are unable to say anything?"

Zhao Wei felt something heavy pressing on her ċhėst as she continued to listen to his words. However, she could not find a word to deny his accusations.

Seeing that she was unable to come out with another word, Li Jing turned to leave. His steps halted and he turned around. "Before I go, let me remind you. Just don't go and mess out with Yao Yao again lest you upset both Zhang and Qi's family. Zhao Wei, it's fine if you wanted to destroy yourself, but don't drag us down. Just stay here quietly here until your trial begins."

Li Jing grimaced at the thought that he might offend the higher-ups if he upset the Qi's family. They were his superiors! What was Zhao Wei trying to do when she tried to find trouble with them?

After saying his last words, Li Jing then left.

Meanwhile, the two siblings who were hiding and eavesdropping at their parents' conversation had two different expressions on their faces.
