Once he had found a parking spot, Song Yi entered the hospital building and went straight to the department where he knew that Mother Han will be meeting her doctor.
When he finally spotted Mother Han, sitting at the waiting area, Song Yi quickly walked over to her.
Mother Han noticed him before he approached. She was momentarily surprised, but seconds later, the expression disappeared and a smile curled on her lips. "Song Yi," she called as he approached. "Are you here to see Yue Xiu?"
Song Yi froze. He met Mother's Han teasing gaze and could only smile.
Mother Han laughed upon seeing his expression. He had known Song Yi for a while and thought that this guy would always have a serious look on his face. Surprisingly, he had this cute side on him too. Suddenly, Mother Han thought that teasing this man was definitely more fun than teasing her daughter.
Whenever she wanted to tease her daughter, Han Yue Xiu, that girl only know how to get angry. Definitely not cute at all.
"Yue Xiu went away to buy something. She should be back soon," Mother Han said. She patted at the empty seat beside her. "Come on. Sit over here."
Song Yi let out a dry cough as he sat down. The two of them spent a few minutes chatting and Song Yi mostly asked Mother Han about her health condition.
A few minutes later, Han Yue Xiu appeared while holding a bag with drinking water and some bread. She looked at the two people in front of her alternately and stopped at Song Yi. "Why are you here?"
Song Yi glanced at Mother Han before he answered, "I came to visit someone and run into your mother." He cast another look at Mother Han and lowered his gaze.
Han Yue Xiu continued to stare at him. But after a while, she saw that her mother was looking at her reaction and Han Yue Xiu was suddenly embarrassed. She took out a bottle of drinking water and handed it to her mother. "Mom, drink. Didn't you say that you were thirsty earlier?"
Mother Han stared at the bottle and sighed. She took the bottle from her daughter and turned to Song Yi. "Song Yi, help auntie to unscrew the cap."
"Yes." He nodded and helped Mother Han to unscrew the bottle with ease.
Han Yue Xiu watched the scene in front of her and felt the corner of her mouth started to twitch.
Earlier, she had seen how Song Yi and her mother were chatting amiably and joking around. It seemed that the relationship between the two of them was quite good.
"When did you two get friendly with each other?" Han Yue Xiu could not help but ask.
"What do you mean?" Mother Han shot a displeased look to her daughter. "Song Yi is my lifesaver. He often came to visit me when I was hospitalized. Why can't we be friendly with each other."
"I didn't say you can't be friendly," Han Yue Xiu pouted slightly.
She had momentarily forgotten that Song Yi had helped her mother and her family while they were in Country S. Once her mother was transferred to the hospital in Capital City, he had continued to visit her mother almost every day.
It's just that… earlier, she was too surprised to see that the two were chatting and laughing happily. Suddenly, Han Yue Xiu felt an uncomfortable tug on her heart.
"Aren't you going to leave?" she asked Song Yi. She noticed that the way her mother was looking at her was not right, and thought that her question might sound like she was trying to chase him away. "Didn't you say that you came to visit someone?"
Song Yi let out a dry cough. He looked Han Yue Xiu with a straight face and spoke, "Well, my friend was unexpectedly discharged without informing me. It was only when I went to his empty ward that I found out about this."
Mother Han turned her head away as she bit at the inside of her cheek to stop herself from laughing. Once she had controlled her expression, Mother Han looked at her daughter again. "Yue Xiu, you go and check whether my number is coming up soon."
"Oh," Han Yue Xiu nodded before she left to the nurses' station to ask.
"Earlier, Father Han dropped us at the hospital before he headed over to work," Mother Han said as she watched her daughter's disappearing figure. "If you're not too busy, could you give us a ride home?"
Song Yi's expression brightened upon hearing Mother Han's words. His lips curled into a bright smile and he nodded. "Alright."
As she listened to Song Yi's explanation, Han Yue Xiu suddenly thought that Song Yi was very good at talking. His explanation was very simple and easy to understand. Even if her mother asked him a simple question, he would tell her again patiently.
Soon, it was Mother Han's turn to meet the doctor.
Han Yue Xiu shot a smile to Song Yi and said her goodbye before she accompanied her mother into the doctor's room.
However, when she came out again, Han Yue Xiu was very surprised to see that Song Yi was still around. "Why are you still here?"
"I was waiting for you guys," Song Yi said. He turned to Mother Han and said, "Mrs. Han, let me send both of you back."
"That's not—"
"Alright," Mother Han answered before her daughter could reject his offer. "Song Yi, then I will trouble you."
Han Yue Xiu narrowed her eyes as she looked at the two people in front of her heading towards the elevator as if she did not exist.
Suddenly, Song Yi turned to look at her and stretched his hand to her. "What are you doing spacing out like that? Come on. Let's go."
"Oh." Han Yue Xiu absentmindedly put her hand in his. Feeling the warmth of his hand, Han Yue Xiu mentally cursed her dazed self.
Fortunately, Song Yi released her hand just as they reached the elevator.
Han Yue Xiu peeked at his expression and was relieved that she could not see anything abnormal from Song Yi.
The three of them walked over to the car park and Mother Han immediately pulled the back passenger door. "I want to lie down a little bit. Yue Xiu, you just go and sit in the front."
Han Yue Xiu stared at her mother who was lying on the backseat and felt the corner of her mouth started to twitch. "Mom, you haven't put on your seatbelt."
Mother Han get up, put on her seatbelt, and continued to lay down.
Seeing this scene, Han Yue Xiu did not know whether she wanted to laugh or cry.
With no other choice, Han Yue Xiu walked over to the other side and got into the vehicle.
These days, Song Yi would often give her a ride home after work and she was quite familiar sitting in Song Yi's Audi.
The atmosphere was too quiet during the ride home and Mother Han could not help but sigh. However, upon remembering her presence as the light bulb in the vehicle, Mother Han decided not to say anything.
As the car approached the apartment building, Mother Han suddenly get up and spoke, "Song Yi, why don't you come up and have lunch together. Your Uncle Han is away at home and eating together with just Yue Xiu and I would be too dull. Anyway, you have accompanied me and send us home. I won't feel good if you don't stay for lunch."
Han Yue Xiu shot her mother a glare through the rear mirror but was unable to say anything.
"Alright," Song Yi nodded. "I'll go and look for a parking spot."
"Just drop me at the lobby first," Mother Han said. "Yue Xiu you go with Song Yi. Just in case he got lost."
Han Yue Xiu wanted to curse. Song Yi had visited their apartment twice! He won't get lost.
Because she knew that rejecting her mother's request would be impossible, Han Yue Xiu could only accompany Song Yi to the parking lot in silence.
The car stopped as it entered the parking spot, but Song Yi did not quickly turn off the engine.
Han Yue Xiu turned to him with a puzzled gaze and saw that he was staring at her with a mixed expression. His lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but was hesitating.
"Han Yue Xiu?"
"Ah?" she blinked.
"I like you," Song Yi spoke. "I know that you had told me not to like you. But no matter how I tried to stop myself from liking you, I just cannot do it. I cannot give up on you. I thought that staying as a business partner with you would be enough, but it wasn't. I wanted us to be more than friends or business partners."
Han Yue Xiu stared at the man in front of her in a daze as he continued to pour out his feelings towards her for a long time. Fortunately, she snapped out of her trance in time to hear his next question.
"Could you give me a chance?"
