Chapter 76 - Cries In David's Heart

In the Underworld, there is an unwritten rule that says that you will be crushed whenever you let your guard down, even if your carelessness is only as big as a grain of sand, because your opponent will definitely be aiming for that crucial moment.

Perhaps, David has been at the top for too long, all this time he is revered as the most feared and respected figure in the Underworld, so he forgets the struggle he did to reach the top.

But David's stubborn nature made Henry give up on reminding him. All this time, the thing that can make David aware is his own experience when he went directly to the battlefield.

Henry only hoped that David would not be left with the lack of alertness he was facing now. Because the longer he let his guard down, the more accustomed David would be to it. What Henry feared was that David would no longer be able to tell when he was off guard or not.

Henry finally chose to drink his favorite ginseng wine again. "Woaaahhh, it turns out to be true. This drink is the only one that won't disappoint this old man." said Henry in a tone full of joy, causing David to chuckle softly.

David only considers Henry as an old man who starts worrying about small things like other elderly people.

Still, hopefully the things Henry feared most don't actually happen.

David parked his Lamborghini Venenno Roadster in the parking lot of his apartment building. He brought home a tiramisu-flavored tart which was Angeline's favorite. In the elevator to the floor where his apartment was, David smiled broadly.

His choice to tell the things that were stuck in his heart and mind to Henry was a very right decision. He didn't know who else to tell if it's not him. Henry is like a parent to David.

Henry is indeed an old man. But what he meant was that he felt like a grandfather figure to David.

A grandfather who has a soul like youth to be precise.

Even though his bar looks very old, his attitude and personality are still open-minded and also open-hearted like those of the millennial generation in general.

When the elevator doors opened, David walked down the hall to the door of his apartment, opened the door and felt something quite odd.

One of Angeline's shoes was not in its usual place.

David knocked on the bedroom door and got no response at all. And by the time David turned the doorknob, Angeline was no longer in there. David takes out his cell phone and tries to reach Angeline, but her number is out of reach. And now his attention was focused on the piece of paper that was on Angeline's dressing table.

David also dropped the bag containing the tiramisu-flavored tart that he had been carrying, without further ado, immediately ran to the elevator, pressing the seventh floor where the CCTV room was located.

"Mr. David, what do you need here?"

"Stay the fuck away!"

David shouted at the officers who were there. Seeing David like that, no one would dare to interrupt him. Without interruption, the officer let David press the computer buttons which function to adjust the CCTV camera screen. A girl is seen coming out of David's apartment carrying a fairly large suitcase. The girl is wearing a jacket and covering her head using the hood of the jacket.

Of course David could recognize her immediately.

The figure of the girl in a hoodie jacket who leaves with a sizable suitcase is his wife, Angeline.

David also took out his cellphone and immediately contacted Amanda. He plans to ask Amanda to help track down Angeline's whereabouts, but Amanda doesn't answer David's calls.

Cederic and Marshall were both unreachable. They all completely ignored calls from David.

"Fuck!" shouted David, punching the computer screen in front of him into holes. David really didn't care about his hands covered in blood.

David hurried back to the place where he parked his car and drove the car like a madman to the airport. Even several traffic police cars plus a police helicopter chased him until they lost track of him because David's car was going too fast.

David stopped his car in front of the airport entrance ignoring the people he nearly hit.

"Angeline!" shouted David as he ran in random directions, terrifying the people who saw him.

David continued to scream with all his might as he ran to find Angeline's whereabouts. He was really afraid that he was too late to find Angeline.

From the corner of his eye, David finally found the girl he had been looking for.

"Angeline!" shouted David, but Angeline didn't hear him, because the girl was already inside the airport. Angeline stood up and walked towards the departure gate, it seemed that the name of the plane that Angeline was going to be flying would be leaving soon.

Several airport officials walked over to David talking through their communication tool, the walkie-talkie. David runs inside, but at the entrance he is detained by officers in charge of checking passenger tickets.

"Sorry sir, you can't enter without--"

Bammm! ...

David hit the ticket examiner in the face so hard that the burly man fainted instantly. His friend tries to stop David, but David slams the guy's head against the checking machine, knocking him out of consciousness in one hard blow. David also ran through and tried to catch Angeline.

Several officers holding an iron club in their hands tried to stop David inside, but David was no match for them. David was able to knock them down one by one and keep running after Angeline.

Even David was repeatedly hit by shock attacks from the stun gun belonging to airport officials, but that was not enough to stop David at all.

From the end of his line of sight, Angeline had passed through the final checkpoint before entering the gate that led directly to the plane.

Bang! ...

A warning shot was fired into the air, causing everyone inside the airport to squat and put their head down.

David, without turning to the source of the gunshot, kept trying to catch Angeline. As if he didn't care about the sound of the gunshot.

"Stop there, or I'll shoot you!" the officer, holding a gun in his hand, issued an ultimatum, hoping David would comply. However, David ignored him and kept trying to catch Angeline.

Until a bullet lodged in his right calf from behind.

Bang! ...

David's steps stopped a little, but David did not stop.

Bang! ...

The second bullet was lodged in David's left arm. That didn't stop him either.

Bang! ...

The third bullet also lodged in David's lower left abdomen, scratching his hip bone, but David still didn't stop. David's eyes could see that the plane Angeline was in was moving.

The officer who had shot David's body had no longer done so. According to the regulations, if the culprit does not fight back, then three bullets is the final tolerance limit. David has not injured anyone since the first bullet lodged in his body, which is a case of not fighting back.

The officer spoke through his communication device and instructed all officers who were near David to stop him at once.

Now, about seventeen officers, each with iron clubs, stood around David without giving him the slightest chance to escape. David realized that if he continued to fight back, the officer with the gun had reasons to shoot him again.

David takes an officer hostage so that he can get through the final checkpoint and finally exit to the place where planes take off and land; the airfield.

David memorized which plane Angeline was on. The plane was already at the starting line, preparing to take off. The sound of the turbines moving the jets on the airplane's wings was heard from a distance. David kept running, ignoring the pain throughout his body.

"Angeline ... wait ... don't go." David groaned in his heart.

And before David had time to reach the place, Angeline's plane was traveling very fast. Slowly the plane flew into the air until it finally disappeared in the clouds.

David just stood there staring at the plane, while he was surrounded from all sides by the special airport police who aimed their guns respectively at David.

Bammm! ...

David's head was hit very hard from behind, causing David to gasp. If anyone else, it must have fallen to the ground unconscious, but David was still standing, staring at the last trail of the plane in which Angeline was boarding.

Even though the blood had flowed from the top of his head to cover David's right eye, he remained standing.

The officer hit David on the back of the head with the iron club in his hand a second time, but David still hadn't fallen.

Finally he took out the handcuffs and immediately locked David's wrists back. This time David didn't put up a single fight, leaving everyone who surrounded him stunned.

David was like a lifeless lump of flesh. David's face did not show any expression, as if his soul was no longer inside his body.

David was taken to the police station.

In David's heart, he kept repeating the same words, with his face completely devoid of expression.

"Angeline ... Don't go ... Angeline ... Don't go ... Angeline ... Don't go ...."
