154 Chapter 154: Willing to do anything

As soon as the deep voice fell, darkness surrounded him instantly making Usui jolt out of his stupor. Coldness seeped through his bones making him widen his eyes in shock.

What happened?

W-Who was that?

Usui looked around without a single ray of hope in his eyes. Just what happened to him?

He knitted his brows in confusion when he noticed the darkness around him. He couldn't see anything beyond the vast sea of darkness. No dead soldiers were clambering towards the palace, no evil laughter echoing across the sky, no cries and screams taking place, and definitely no battle.

'Am I dead?'

'Was this hell? Am I being punished for not keeping her promise?'

Mock laughter escaped his lips when those thoughts crossed his mind. He looked down at his hands which were tainted in blood and murmured, "He failed yet again"

He clenched his hand into a fist and banged on the ground angrily. He panted as he repeated his actions and screamed as his fists contacted the ground numerous times.

Why was he useless? Why couldn't he protect her happiness?

He wailed in agony as he finally stopped hitting the ground. He looked at his bloodied fist and yelled into the darkness with red eyes, "Why did I fail?"

Usui fell back and whispered forlornly, "Why am I so weak?"

Just as he was about to continue his torture, he heard a low tutting voice in front of him.

"Oi, didn't you hear me when I said I will help you? then why are you being dramatic now?"

Usui froze as he slowly raised his head to gaze at the man before him. His eyes fell on a transparent figure having a long white beard, gazing at him annoyedly. Usui's hands fell back towards his lap as he stared at the man in shock.

"Who are you?"

The man chuckled, his voice echoing in the darkness, "Finally... you are asking me." Then Usui watched bewilderedly how the man cleared his throat and said, "It's your lucky day, my boy. You finally had the fortune to be in my, the great master Kyron's presence."

Kyron stopped his words when he saw Usui tilt his head in confusion making him at a loss for words. His smile slipped as he asked, "Have you not heard of my name?"

Usui pursed his lips as he shrugged making the transparent man gape at him in disbelief. His eyebrows rose when he heard the man mutter something as he paced back and forth in front of him.

"Kids these days, don't know who their founder is! Generations are becoming worse day by day."

Usui remained mute as he watched the transparent man pace while muttering curses. He waited for the man to stop which he did, after a few minutes.

Kyron inhaled deeply before he mustered a smile and asked, "Have you heard about the battle decades ago?"

Kyron nodded rapidly and asked, "So tell me, do you know the name of the human?"

Usui rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah... the name was marked down for decades that it's impossible to forget even if I wanted to."

Kyron's lips twitched in response before he persisted, "So, what is his name?"

"Kyron..."

Usui paused and raised his eyebrow in surprise as he glanced at the man in front of him incredulously. Abruptly, Usui burst into a fit of laughter as he asked, "Do you want to tell me that that human God was you?"

Kyron leaned back satisfied by his response and murmured, "I didn't know they considered me as their God" then he nodded to no one particular and said, "Good good"

Kyron furrowed his brows when he was met with silence and turned to Usui who was gaping at him dumbfoundedly.

He then heard the young man say, "That human God has disappeared for ages now"

Kyron glanced down at his transparent self and back at Usui as if asking him silently, 'Yeah.. can't you see me?'

Usui parted his mouth in shock, unable to muster words making Kyron sigh, "When I defeated the demon lord, both of us were injured severely that I didn't have enough mana to teleport to a safe place. So I sealed myself inside a weapon which I found nearby which is the sword you are carrying."

Usui gaped at him before his eyes shifted to Black Thunder lying by his side. He tilted his head as if pondering on something before he slowly got up from the ground and walked towards the transparent spirit carrying his sword.

Kyron furrowed his brows as he watched Usui walk towards him and stop in front of him. Without any notice, he saw the guy lift his sword and pierce through his body. Kyron widened his eyes in shock when he heard Usui mutter, "You are right... you are dead"

Then, he saw the guy insert his hand into his transparent body and shudder.

Usui complained, "You are so cold"

Kyron's eyebrows twitched in annoyance as he moved back, shuffling his transparent clothes, and say, "How rude of you to stab someone!"

Usui pressed his lips into a thin line and shrug nonchalantly making Kyron mutter curses under his breath.

"Wait... you said you got trapped in my sword?"

Kyron rolled his eyes for the nth time wondering whether he chose the right master for the sword, "Yes"

Usui pointed his finger accusingly at him and asked, "So you were the one who always screamed in my mind?"

Kyron gaped at this young man in front of him dumbfoundedly.

'Is this the right time to focus on that part?'

Nevertheless, Kyron rubbed his forehead as he nodded and agreed, "Yes"

Instantly Usui's face darkened, "Do you know how much of a headache you are?"

Kyron frowned, "You should be honored to have me by your side"

Usui rolled his eyes and answered sarcastically, "Sure... I should be happy that you keep draining my energy. That you make me weak so early in the morning that I need to sleep till noon to recover the mana you stole for only it to be stolen again!"

Kyron sheepishly scratched his chin, "Well, that can't be helped since I need the energy to heal my soul"

Then he gestured to his transparent body and said, "See, I can finally visualize before you because of the mana you supplied. Even now, I could only bring you here because my soul was half-healed"

Right!

Usui widened his eyes as it finally dawned on him. He looked around in the darkness and asked worriedly, "Where am I?"

Kyron sighed, "I had no other choice than bring you inside to help you. I have a solution to help you keep your promise but..."

Usui looked at him in surprise and asked, "But?"

"This could help you protect your loved ones and keep your promise but it is accompanied by a heavy price."

Usui knitted his brows and urged him urgently, "I don't care about that. I'm willing to pay anything as long as I can keep my promise with her."

Kyron looked at those desperate eyes of the young man and couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards him. He had accompanied this young fellow for months now and had witnessed his sincere heart. He was unwilling to tell him about this solution as it was risky...very risky.

A single mishap would make him turn against his loved ones.

But... he also didn't want Usui to wallow in sorrow for the rest of his life.

Kyron sighed before holding out his palm. Usui looked at the stretched hand and him in confusion until he saw a dark flame hovering over Kyron's palm.

Usui widened his eyes in horror when he sensed the familiar aura.

"How?"

Kyron sighed and smiled helplessly, "That year when we fought, I managed to seal part of his power before I sent him to a deep slumber."

Then Kyron raised his eyes and said, "This can help you defeat him but once you proceed with this choice, you can't escape. This small part of his soul would unite with your body, trapping your soul."

"If you are not powerful enough, this soul could even take over your body and burn everything you treasure to ashes"

Usui pursed his lips as he looked at the dark flame burning on his palm. If this was the only choice for him to protect her happiness, he was willing to trade his soul for her. He only wanted her to be happy and he was willing to do anything to stop her tears.

Kyron smiled helplessly as he looked at the young man before him. He knew what his answer was way before he showed him the dark flame. If he had a choice, he wouldn't have let him take this path but looking at the destruction outside, he was sure this was the only way.

"Have you decided?"

Usui glanced at the spirit before him and asked, "Will this protect my promise?"

Kyron lifted his lips into a smile and said, "It would do more than that but always remember: never let it take control"

Usui looked at him and nodded.

"Yeah... as long as I can protect her, I will be fine"
