165 Chapter 165: Stubborn and Resilien

Usui furrowed his brows as he used his fist to stand up from the pressure upon him. He lifted himself from the ground when he heard the demon sardonically say, "It's you"

'What?'

The voice erupted into a fit of laughter when he saw the disbelief across the human, "It's you... It's your hands that controlled the sword... it's because of you that she is covered in injuries from head to toe."

Usui's face drained of color as he gaped at the face before him. He looked at his hands which were trembling slightly before his eyes began to mist.

'Wouldn't she blame him for all the pain?'

He clenched his hands as he banged his fist to the ground and screamed internally, 'Why?'

'Why am I causing her pain always?'

The voice sneered as it answered his question, "Because you are weak"

Usui's body trembled under its words. He knew that the demon was trying to manipulate him... he knew that he shouldn't fall for his tricks yet he couldn't help imagine how disappointed she would be.

The face peered down at him and scoffed, "Because you didn't protect the promise."

At that second, Usui lost his mind. He felt the darkness swallow him as it embraced him in its cold arms but he did nothing as if he was willingly surrendering.

The demon sneered as its eyes glowed brightly making Hazel frown.

'What happened? Why did his appearance change all of a sudden?'

More black lines appeared on his face and both his irises turned red. The Usui in front of her didn't have an ounce of humanity in him as it turned towards her, snickering.

"Humans are so easy to trick"

Her face turned cold as she noticed the ridicule on the demon.

'What the hell did he do?'

Her body moved subconsciously as she rushed towards him with her dagger stretched out. The demon blocked her attack easily and pulled her sword down as it observed her furious face.

Freya gritted her teeth as she asked, "What did you do to him?"

The demon laughed and shoved her away. Freya moved back surprised by his strength. She looked up at the demon with doubt brewing in her mind.

The demon tilted his head and asked, "Do you want to know what I did to your lover?"

Freya pressed her lips to a thin line. Lightning and fire blazed around her as she answered, "I don't want to hear"

She dashed forth leaving a trail of fire behind her. She clashed her dagger with his sword for a second before their speed increased by one fourth. But it didn't take long for the demon to kick her away.

Freya clutched the rocks as she stood up swaying on her feet.

Every human had crumbled under him like how those pathetic generals died before.

.....

Within the darkness, Usui clutched his head as he burrowed his head in his knees. The dark vines gripped him tightly as his entire body was wrapped inside the darkness. He was facing his demons who were ridiculing him for being weak.

The image of Freya fighting for him was instilled in his mind as it repeated over and over. The injuries, the blood...it was all because he couldn't control one small minuscule part of the demon.

He raised his head and howled when he saw the demon threw Freya away. He saw how Freya summoned lightning on her swaying feet and covered her dagger with her fire magic.

Her appearance changed slightly as a small white mark appeared in between her eyebrows. She curled her lips as she dashed forth and fought against the demon.

He saw her clash her fire dagger with his sword and push the demon away, surprising the demon. A grin made way to the demon's face as he observed the bloodied woman in front of him.

Then he shook his head and tutted under his breath, "Tch, a waste! If you come with me, then I can help you become the strongest woman in this world."

Usui's eyes burned when he heard the demon's words but he was surprised by Freya's words.

"Strongest woman? No thanks"

The demon's face contorted in fury as he snarled, "You want a weak human, who failed to protect you? who failed to keep his promise with you?"

Freya furrowed her brows not understanding his words.

'Weak human? Is he referring to Usui?'

Her gaze turned a hundred degrees colder as she pointed her dagger at him.

"He is the bravest and strongest person I have ever met. He is a thousand times way better than any living person in every single way possible."

Her eyebrows when she saw the fury on the demon's face as it hit her finally.

'Was this how he manage to control him? because of the promise?'

Freya closed her eyes in pain as she realized how she became another reason for him to lose again. The demon growled before it appeared in front of her and gripped her throat tightly.

Freya didn't fight as she observed him. His face had numerous black lines and his eyes had turned completely red showing how much Usui had lost himself.

She peered into his red eyes and uttered softly, "Usui, I know you are in there somewhere."

Usui raised his head within the darkness and looked at her, who seemed to gaze at him. A green light shone in the darkness like how her eyes glistened in the moonlight.

Her eyes gazed at him softly as she said, "I'm sorry for always pulling you back."

Usui shook his head as he tried to get up intending to answer her. But the dark vines wrapped around his arms tightly, stopping him.

"Thank you"

His struggles came to a stop when he heard her utter those two words.

'Thank you?'

Freya saw the surprise flash through those red eyes and a smile formed on her face.

"Thank you for protecting my family. Thank you for fighting against the demons for me. Thank you for rescuing me from my demons. "

Usui widened his eyes at her. He couldn't believe his eyes as he slowly got up to his feet, ripping his arms from the vines easily.

Freya's eyes welled up when she saw black tears escape his eyes. She reached out her hands and wiped away the tears as she said finally, "Thank you for loving me. Thank you for never giving up on me"

Usui lifted his hands out towards her in the darkness but was stopped by the vines. His eyes narrowed as he ripped his hand away from its grip. He slowly moved forth towards the green light, with each step tearing the vines apart.

After two steps, he bent down and searched for his sword. As soon as he felt the hilt under his palm, he screeched as he slashed at the vines holding him back.

"Freya" he whispered before he fought his way towards the green light,

The demon was shocked for a moment before he slammed her against the ground. He clutched his face as he felt Usui fight against the darkness. His moves were getting stronger at each step making him grit his teeth.

He glowered at Freya who was curled into a ball as she vomited a mouthful of blood. It seems like he would lose this battle because of her.

Angrily, he marched towards her and kicked her stomach making Freya gasp in pain. She felt her insides vibrate under his kick.

Usui screamed into the darkness when he saw what the demon was doing and all he heard in return was cold laughter.

Freya pursed her bloody lips as she summoned lightning one last time and struck him. The demon moved back and took the sword and struck her.

Freya blocked the sword with her bare hands making her squint her eyes in pain. Her blood trickled down the blade making Usui hurry up his movements.

He slashed at everything as he moved his feet closer to the green light. He only prayed that he reached there on time.

The demon snickered as he slashed the sword against her palm making her hiss in pain. He bent and gripped her face, lifting her up in the process, as he pointed his sword at her.

Freya met with his gaze and smiled when he saw one of his irises had turned back into golden brown. Her hands moved towards his shoulders as she moved her face closer to his ear and whispered, "Thank you for keeping our promise"

The demon felt his vision starting to blur and understood that the human was regaining his control. Usui broke through all the vines in a single strike and marched towards the green light.

The demon gritted his teeth as he looked at the woman who was smiling at him softly as if she expected this outcome.

He wanted to see the woman cry out in pain, and the human to regret everything. Abruptly, he stabbed her abdomen and grinned when he saw the blood trickling down her lips.

His smile grew wider when he heard the shrill piercing outcry inside his head. His vision blurred as he looked at the human in front of him.

It was a first for him to encounter a stubborn woman and a resilient man.
