Even after getting back home, Liz had a sweet smile on her face imagining that moment when the CEO hadn't let go.
Indeed, when she had mistakenly caught his hand, even she had felt that it was really, really nice.
His hands were slightly rough, which was something she hadn't expected, and although they felt cold, it was a pleasant cold that made her want to squeeze it hard. Moreover, it felt as if her hand fit perfectly in his, so cozy that it just didn't make sense for the two to be apart.
All through the car ride home, they had continued to hold hands while talking about food and other casual stuff.
It was then that Liz had found out that Will was used to eating gourmet food, because that was how he had been brought up. Of course, that made sense.
Finally, after reaching her house, both of them reluctantly let go before wishing each other a good night.
Even as Rao was driving the CEO away, Liz had been standing in her doorway, watching the car leave her vision while hoping that it would stay.
Turning back, she reached her bedroom and crashed, as it was already quite late in the night. It had been a tiring day, and she had to work all day tomorrow.
Of course, even while sleeping, the hand that was held by the CEO was grasped in her other hand, as if she didn't like the feeling of it being alone anymore.
The next morning, Derek had already left to school by the time Liz woke up.
The time was already 8 am, and this was when she was usually supposed to be waiting downstairs for Rao.
She was just about to rush and go full throttle to get ready, but she glanced at her phone and saw a message waiting for her from the CEO.
"Be ready with clothes for 3 days at 10 am. Office work. Pack for cold weather."
Heaving a sigh of relief, Liz felt like getting back under the sheets and taking a nap, but she was afraid that she might not wake up with enough time to pack and get ready.
So, reluctantly getting out, she went to the kitchen and found Mary cooking some eggs.
Giving her a small hug from behind, Liz sat at the table and started to read the paper while drinking some coffee that had already been prepared.
However, when Mary asked an unexpected question, Liz almost spit out the contents in her mouth.
"Was last night fun? Did you two kiss?"
"Mom!"
Mary had turned around and was now looking at Liz with an expression of expectation on her face.
She had always used to lament that Liz was really weird in the fact that she hadn't gotten into any romantic relationships, when women her age usually had multiple boyfriends by that time.
In response, Liz had always used to say that she had no time or patience for boys in her life when there were already two amazing ones.
As Mary saw her daughter raise her voice with exasperation on her face, she shrugged and turned back to the eggs, saying, "So that's a no…You seemed different, so I was wondering whether you moved to the next step. Hey, you can share everything with me! Maybe I can help out! Anyway, I heard you return really late. Where did you two go?"
Well, it was nothing strange for mothers to take undue interest in their daughter's relationships, especially when they're worried that the daughter might end up alone.
Shaking her head, Liz told Mary what they had done last night and when she got to the part about holding hands, Mary turned around to see the pure smile on Liz's face.
This made her smile in return, before walking to Liz while holding the plate with scrambled eggs and saying, "Liz, it almost sounds like…even he hasn't been in a relationship so far? What are the odds?"
"Uh, no, apparently, he has, but that was…I don't know. But I do know that that relationship ended badly, so he was hurt for a long time and shunned women in general."
Hearing this, an expression of thought came on Mary's face while she watched her daughter eat.
She didn't say anything for a little while, but when Liz was just about to finish, she said, "Be careful, Liz. Luke told me what happened before. When someone is destroyed due to something once…irreparable change happens, and sometimes, they can be unpredictable. I really like him, I do. I can tell that he's honest and sweet. But I just want you to be careful. Ok?"
Hearing Mary's serious tone, Liz nodded, and committed her words to memory.
However, inside, she did feel that nothing of the sort would happen.
Getting up and quickly washing the plate, she said, "Oh, I'm flying out for three days. I'll get something for Derek and Luke from wherever I go. All I know is that its going to be cold."
Mary nodded and smiled at Liz, but before Liz disappeared upstairs, she shouted, "If he takes your first kiss, it better be special!"
There she went again, Liz thought, before hurriedly starting to pack.
Well, Mary did have her best intentions in heart, so Liz didn't say anything in return.
As for her first kiss, she just didn't want to think on it now.
After going down at 10, she found Rao waiting to take her to the airport.
Apparently, there was some emergency meeting that couldn't be skipped, so Liz had to travel ahead. For once, she would be traveling in a regular plane instead of the private jet.
As for the location, it was Canada, and when she saw the temperature at the destination, she realized that the CEO should have been more elaborate.
It was -15 degrees, so 'cold' really didn't cut it. She had packed for 'cold', but not freezing.
As she got on the flight to Toronto and reached the first class suite which had been booked for her, she widened her eyes, as the person who was sitting in the seat beside her was someone she knew.
"Elizabeth Redmaine? Is that you? Did you wonder into first class by mistake, perhaps? Economy is over there."
