As Liz saw a man with a hooked nose, weak chin, and large eyes say these words, she was reminded of an image from school.
A kid stealing other kids' lunch money, and blaming it on Liz and Luke because they were the poorest students in the school.
Liz teaching him a lesson in such a public and humiliating way that he was forced to change school after that.
She didn't want to get into how she had done that right now, but just seeing his face made an expression of disgust almost come over her face.
However, when she comprehended what he had just said, she realized that this man hadn't changed.
Jealous, scheming and manipulative.
That was the Jackson she knew as a kid, and it seemed that he had turned into a man with the same qualities.
She knew that if she responded, she might not decide to keep it civil, so ignoring the words for now, she checked her ticket again, hoping that this wasn't her seat.
However, even though she was gracious enough not to take offense, it looked like Jackson had no intention of leaving this 'opportunity' he had found.
"Oh, never mind! You've gone places now! I saw the news. When my colleagues asked whether I knew you, I couldn't bring myself to say that I did. I don't want to be associated with a woman who sleeps her way to the top."
"Jackson Peepants, shut up."
As the man heard that infamous nickname that had haunted him for years come out through Liz's mouth, his mocking expression turned into one of sudden rage, and his face swelled up like a tomato with anger.
Liz didn't even need to say anything more. It was clear that what she had done was so effective that he still looked like he would go into a fit of anger and die at its mention.
Calling over an attendant, she asked, "Miss, can I change seats? This man smells."
As Liz said this, the anger on Jackson's face reached a new level, and he even opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out.
Meanwhile, the flight attendant looked at the man with an odd expression and suddenly exclaimed, "Mr. Zachary! It's a pleasure to be journeying with you, sir!"
What?
Liz couldn't believe her ears.
That snivelly kid from her memory had grown into someone who garnered this much respect?
Seeing Liz's puzzled look, the flight attendant shot a smile at Jackson before saying, "Mr. Zachary, here, is the only son of the man who owns this airline. He is currently looking into expanding our airline throughout the world. Recently, he was covered in the same magazine which wrote about the gold-digger who has trapped the amazing Mr. Bradshaw so much that he even released a public statement for her. Oh, I'm sorry Miss, I might have spoken out of turn. Anyway, please let me check."
The mention of that word had made Liz get an ashen expression on her face, which was why the flight attendant said that sentence at the end before walking to the front of the airplane to check with the head of staff.
Liz's eyes followed the attendant, and when she saw her pointing at her while talking with an unpleasant expression on her face, she realized that that damn news article had put her in another bind.
Meanwhile, the anger had receded on Jackson's face, and it was now replaced by a gloating expression which was so irritating that Liz wanted to punch him.
"You're on my turf now, Elizabeth Redmaine. Your boyfriend must have bought you that shiny first class ticket, right? This should be your first time! Well, let me act on behalf of all people of the upper class to make sure that that happy occasion is, at least, delayed."
Liz didn't understand what he was saying, but when he called the attendant and spoke to her, she was slightly surprised at the fact that anyone could be this petty.
"Attendant, this seat is out of order. Regretfully, the flight is full, so we have no choice but to downgrade Miss. Elizabeth here to economy. I'm sure she will understand-Explain to her that we simply have no other choice."
"Mr. Zachary, I was coming to say the exact same thing! It's great to see that even someone of your stature is so polite to a regular passenger, regardless of their background. Miss, I'm truly sorry. We will definitely refund-"
Understanding what was going on, Liz just raised her hand to stop the flight attendant.
She couldn't take one more second of this guy's irritating face, or the false sincerity in the attendant's tone.
Without waiting, she said, "Jackson, I can't believe that someone can still be so petty. I wish I don't have to see your face again, because I can't handle more flashbacks of that amazing view of you peeing your pants in front of 100 students."
This made anger erupt once again in Jackson's face, and even the attendant stared oddly.
However, knowing that he had won this round, he laughed loudly and said, "Oh, just go sit down and continue reminiscing, you tramp."
"Humph."
Not intending to waste any more words on this ape, Liz wheeled away her luggage to the economy section where she was shown a seat by another flight attendant with an equally false expression of sincerity on her face.
'Ok, Liz, it's just a 2-hour flight. Just sit and don't make a scene. It's not worth it. In this age of people getting thrown out of flights after getting beaten, it's better to keep your head down.'
This was what she told herself, but that inner voice rose up once again, unwilling to let this go.
However, she pushed it down.
Hearing her phone ring, she picked up and smiled when she saw that it was the CEO.
"Are you on your flight? Sorry about the jet, but I made sure that your seat is first class. Is everything Ok? Why do I hear so much chatter around you?"
Astute as always, she thought, replying, "That's because I'm in economy. I met an old vengeful friend from school whose dad owns the airline, and my seat was suddenly 'out of order', so I was downgraded. It's fine, it's a short flight."
For a few seconds, there was silence on the other line, and Liz wondered whether the phone had lost signal.
However, when the CEO spoke again, his voice had an odd tone to it which Liz couldn't place.
"So that happened? Let me make some calls."
