Chapter 238 - 238: She Who Took Over The Spotlight

Halora tried to reach Sebastian and tell him about the party yet, it ended the same way.

Disappointingly, she gasped for more air and lifted up her head at Jasmine who waited for it too.

She said, "How was it? Did you reach him?"

"No, not yet." Halora replied shortly and it was a painful thing ever.

It was a different kind of pain that she only felt every time she couldn't reach Sebastian. She trusted him with all her heart, but why he turned off his phone when he knew that he has a girlfriend. A girlfriend who deserved to know his whereabouts.

"Should I ask Roy? If I am not mistaken, they attended the same practice, right?"

Silently, Markus eavesdropped to the girls' serious conversation. The sweet smile on his face shrouded and replaced with a frown the moment he heard the name Sebastian.

If only he has the right to tell Halora the truth, she should have done it earlier. But because he respected Halora so much more than his life, he remained silent and pretended to be naïve.

Angrily, he gritted his teeth when Roy said that he didn't know Sebastian's whereabouts. But he mentioned that they were together after their practice when his mom called suddenly.

"Fuck that liar asshole! How dare he lied to his kind girlfriend who's waiting for him to pick up that goddamn phone!" he thought.

And through the mirror and their reflection, he knew Halora was hurt of the information she gathered form him.

Weak as a hungry cow, Halora gave the phone back to Jasmine. She rubbed her hands gently, trying to ease the pain in her friend's heart.

"Fuck you, Sebastian! I will kill you when I see you with that bitch tonight!"

Anger and hatred consumed his control that carried him away. Markus raced up as he drove too fast towards the venue that surprised the girls on the passenger's seat.

He said, "Hold tightly, girls! I have something to confirm about."

"W- what? We're going to a party, not into a car race!"

Jasmine yelled at him while Halora closed her eyes and held tightly. It was still a safe trip because they all fastened their seatbelt.

However, when he turned the car to the left, a sudden red car appeared that almost hit the front part of Markus' car. Fortunately, he stopped in the middle of the street that blew Jasmine's mind.

She said, "Fuck! That was too close!"

But Markus didn't bother and acted like nothing happened. He breathed deeply, started the engine and this time, he drove slowly like he used to do.

"W- what is going on? Did we arrive at the venue?" Halora asked suddenly that surprised Jasmine who looked dumbfounded.

She then realized that Halora closed her eyes and she never saw the car that was almost hit them.

"We're closer, Halora." he said shortly. "Don't worry, I'll protect you tonight." he whispered into the cold air that touched on his skin.

He couldn't forgive the campus bad once he confirmed that everything he did was a lie to protect Maxine's dignity and reputation.

If he chose her over his girlfriend, Markus won't hesitate to punch him right away.

"Look at yourselves on the mirror. I will wait until both of you are done." said Markus in a calm tone.

And he didn't want to ruin everything without a reliable reason and proof. He must make sure that every step should avoid Halora to a heartbreaking pain and agony.

Excitingly, Jasmine quickly took the small, circle mirror from her purse. She was thinking that her make-up ruined earlier when Markus drove too fast.

She sighed deeply, rolled her on eyes at the man who observed the spacious place surrounded with securities, flowers and a breathtaking decoration.

Markus knew that Maxine is a high-profile young woman in the country. Her family possessed everything and to get every little thing she wanted; she would use her connection to gain it effortlessly.

"We're done! Shall we?"

Jasmine told Markus while Halora was praying silently and hoping that it would be one of the best nights ever in her entire life.

"How about you, aren't you going out?"

"I… I am q- quite afraid, Jasmine! I… I am not used to attend such grandiose birthday party ever since!"

While Markus waited for Halora outside of the car, Jasmine calmed her down and convinced Halora that everything will be fine.

Sooner or later, Sebastian would send her a message that she has been waiting for. When she finally earned enough courage and confidence to face a lot of people, she went of from the car and held Markus' arm tightly.

However, she noticed that the entire parking area was filled with different luxurious cars she has never seen in person. She was honestly amazed by them but Markus suddenly whispered into her ears.

"Don't look around while walking on the red carpet, do you understand?"

Halora bowed and looked at Jasmine who walked ahead. She has no partner at all because she believed that a strong, empowered woman must walked confidently on her own.

"I do understand. But why I am feeling this way? It feels like something will happen tonight."

"How did you say so? Maxine came from a rich family and for sure, she set securities on every corner of this place!"

Markus lifted her up and distracted her attention. He didn't want Halora to be hurt but he couldn't either jump into a final, injustice judgements without proofs.

A few minutes passed by but Halora didn't utter a word. She looked nervous when they reached at the main entrance surrounded with colorful petals and sentries.

"Take a deep breath, Halora. This is it and there's no turning back anymore." she whispered while Jasmine caught the guests' attention when she walked confidently on the center aisle.

She was smiling widely when she saw Maxine who sat in an elegant chair. It looked like a queen's throne filled with rare precious gems and emeralds.

"Halora came to take over the spotlight and throne from you, bitch!" she murmured and winked at Maxine who seemed annoyed by her presence.
