Episode 188- Thought dearly of Eugene as a sister
Eugene sucked in her lips. She really didn't want to say anything.
Ron could tell that by Eugene's attitude and sigh. There were many things he wanted to say because he had a gist of what Eugene wanted to do. However, staring at the stubborn child in front of him made his heart soften up, so he gave up asking. Why press her when she didn't want to tell him? He knows that Eugene has made up her mind and also knows the type of mentality Eugene carries, after all, he watched her grow up from a baby that was only slightly bigger than his father's palms combined to a girl with a height of 160cm. Just like how he thought of Louis as his blood-related brother, he thought dearly of Eugene as a sister.
"I'll come with you." There was no hesitation in his voice as he said this.
Eugene's narrowed eyes widened as she stared at Ron in shock, "What?"
"I'll come with you." He repeated.
Eugene's eyes moved to Con and then back to Ron, "Why?"
Ron shrugged, "If it was Aernest leaving without telling anyone, would you leave him alone or go with him?" His response was simple, simple enough for Eugene to shut up.
"..." Of course she wouldn't let him go alone even if Con was with him. She would either drag him back with her or leave with him without hesitation.
Eugene stared down at her feet, her face showed nothing but inside she was incredibly moved. She was incredibly emotional today, the most emotional she had been in her 35 years of living. She knew that she was surrounded by good people and that everyone cared for her, but it was the first time she's realized how important this was. And what this means to her.
Seeing Ron's unhesitant expression on his face, she nodded before walking past him. This was her telling him to do whatever he wanted.
Once Eugene, Ron, and Con got out of the mountain they slipped past the people but no matter what they did, they could not blend in with the commoners. Eugene was beautiful, Con had his military attire on, and Ron… was dirty. These combinations were eye-catching hence, Ron took Con with him and asked Eugene to wait for a bit.
Eugene had nothing to do so she stared at the sky. Her eyes especially stared at the Veria mountain that appeared sturdy and big. It was her first time seeing the Veria mountain from this angle and she already felt a sense of safety. Maybe because it was her home? Her beautiful home that only people she cared about lived in.
Many people gossiped about what happened at the Veria mountain as they passed by her. Judging from the voices of these people, they sounded like they were worried for Levis and Moniqua as well as everyone living on the mountain.
'I will kill whichever m-f that did this to my guardians!' One man shouted, his face incredibly angry as spat on the ground right beside Eugene. They did not know who Eugene was because she wrapped her hair up and covered it in cloth to hide her hair color.
'Yes! They have to pay! How dare they touch our parents!'
Eugene tilted her head, 'Parents?' She glanced at the person who said that. The person appeared to be old and looked unlikely to be her sibling.
It wasn't long before she understood why they said what they said. To them, the house of Veria, specifically the Duke and Duchess were like parents to them. It was because of this that they were incredibly maddened by what occurred. Because it felt as if the enemies had attacked their real parents. Who wouldn't be mad if someone attacked their parents or caused havoc at your parent's house?
Eugene watched people exchange their thoughts and was plenty surprised. She had thought that most people would hate aristocrats especially because there was a barrier between them. A barrier of wealth, power, title, and money. But it seemed like the commoners did not care about that at all.
She also learned that when flares began to go off one after the other, the people below had split themselves into two groups. One group barged to the entrance of the Imperial Palace and voiced out what was occurring at the Veria mountain and for the Imperial knights to get help as soon as possible.
The other group guarded the Veria mountain from below. They guarded with the Veria knights who later left to head up the mountain. The people who guarded the Veria mountain watch left and right, above and below. They did not allow anyone to enter, or exit the mountain. They continued guarding even after the carriages belonging to the Great Nobles arrived and even when Ron Graeme got off to thank them.
Hearing this made Eugene very grateful and thankful. She didn't know why these many people put in so much effort to help them but were very thankful. At the moment of the attack, everything was devastating and everyone was filled with a lot of despair because they didn't have enough people. They thought that no one was available to help them. But who would have known that right from the start, they have been receiving a lot of help?
She listened in some more in hopes to know more about what everyone thought and possibly get some clues on the enemy however there was no information on the enemies. No one saw anyone entering the mountain and no one saw a single soul leaving the mountain. It was a mysterious ordeal to the people below because they felt as if the people in the Veria mountain were still fighting the enemies. Levis had yet to put out any statements hence there were only rumors floating around.
"Eugeneia," Ron called out to Eugene who seemed to be in deep thoughts. Seeing her not react to his presence, he simply draped the item he bought over her head.
"...." Eugene grabbed whatever covered her vision and turned to Ron. She was about to condemn him when she saw what he was wearing and paused. Both Con and Ron were wearing a big black cape that covered them completely. This included half of their faces that were hidden by the oversized hood.
"You are lucky that you are tall, Eugeneia," Ron said and pointed to her cape. For a 10-year-old child, Eugeneia had an average height of a 14-16-year-old teen. Of course, she was still growing, considering how tall both Moniqua and Levis were.
Eugene did not reply to Ron and put on her cape. This made them look less flashy than when they didn't wear the cape simply because the clothes that Eugene and Ron wore looked expensive. Wearing a cape made them look like mercenaries and brought less attention to them. Not to mention, it was harder for anyone to track them if they wore capes.
"Let's go," Eugene said before walking forward when Ron reached for her shoulders.
"Where will we go? What is our plan?" Though he didn't ask Eugene why she was leaving, not to mention, leaving without anyone knowing, they still needed a plan!
Eugene blinked, thought for a while before pointing to a … bar.
"...." Ron blinked.
"We will talk there."
.
.
.
"Euria is?!" Ron stood up and raised his voice.
Because of the loud noise, Ron's chair made when it hit the floor, the people around them turned to them at this moment. Ron clenched his fist tight, before grabbing his chair off the floor and sitting back on it. His face was completely pale as his eyes stared into Eugene's eyes filled with seriousness.
"Euria… is gone?" He couldn't help but repeat. He knew that something must've happened for Eugene to leave the house. He thought that Eugene had pressing matters, but didn't think that Eugene left because she was going to search for Euria, whom he didn't even know got kidnapped.
"Wait. Wait a minute Eugeneia." He raised his palm while his other hand rubbed on his forehead.
"Are you not being a bit too reckless right now?" There were many more things he had wanted to say. He didn't want to question Eugene at first but this... was a serious situation.
"What do you think you can do?" He knew his words hurt, however, he had to say it straight to her face. Yes, Eugene was mature. Yes, he was sure she could achieve whatever she wanted to do. However, this was more than reckless. Facing an enemy, who were the perpetrators of the incidents that happened in the Imperial Palace of Xenperia and the Royal Palace of Zene? He did not know what she was thinking but… it was impossible for her to do anything alone. Let alone, save Euria. At this rate, what she was doing was only heading straight to her death.
"...." Eugene remained quiet and spoke once her thoughts were recollected, "But this is the only thing I can do.." She whispered out as her palms clenched tightly underneath the table.
