Chapter 33 - Give Me Kara! How Dare You 2!

Chapter 33: Give me Kara! How dare you 2!

It dawned on Jason slowly. There was a possibility Naya told Kara about Kane. The idea that his child had been living in fear for God knows how long made his stomach churn. There was no way a responsible adult would put her daughter through that. There was no way Naya would ever do. But it didn't stop Jason from storming off towards the duplex with Mckenna closely behind calling his name.

"Jason, stop! Jason, what are you going to do?" Mckenna asked as she tried to catch up.

"Nothing. I am just going to ask Naya a simple question, that's all"

Jason pushed the door open and entered. Naya was sitting on the sofa with a magazine and a glass of wine.

"Oh, hey Jason...just served dinner for you and your family. I think your mom is in the-"

Naya was interrupted by Jason.

"I am sure this is a big joke and we will laugh about it in a minute but did you tell Kara about Kane? Of course n-"

"I did, actually" She answered causally.

Jason stopped. The faint smile on his face was gone. He felt something snap in him.  His eyes went to Naya's neck. He swore he saw a throbbing spot on her neck and he wanted to go for it.

Good God! This might be how murderers and serial killers were made. They just woke up one morning and someone somewhere does something and they...snap.

Jason cleared his throat like the anger rising in him was stuck there and it was beginning to close up his throat.

He blinked twice after clearing the fog in his throat "Care to say that to me, again?"

His voice was cold. Even Mckenna took a step back. The last time he sounded that way was when she showed up to a party with a male friend and Jason had forced her to strip and shower after he threatened to cut the dress she was wearing off of her body.

Mckenna had hated the cold way he had spoken to her and Naya was going to hate it now.

Naya dropped the magazine. She didn't see the big deal. It was information their daughter was supposed to know and she had told the truth. She sat upright with a confused look.

"I said I told Nolani-"

"Don't call her that!" Jason screamed at her.

"Fine! I told Kara about Kane a week after she turned six" Naya refused to be intimidated or force to cower in his presence. She did what was best for her daughter.

"What the hell, Naya?" Jason finally exploded.

He could feel the blind rage coming on. The kind that was almost painful to express, like there was something hot like coal stuck in his gut... begging to be let out.

"Don't yell at me, Jason!" Naya stood up too. How dare he? She was the one here with Kara, breaking her back everyday to keep her safe and protected while he was off to one luxurious place or another with his pretty wife. She was the one raising the kid. She get to make the important decisions too.

Mckenna watched Jason and Naya. It was about to be a full blown argument.

And she worried the kid they were arguing about would come out and see them.

"Jason" she called out to him but he was focused on Naya and paid no attention to her.

"Naya" She called out again as her eyes darted to the stairs where she assumed her stepdaughter was sleeping.

When did two adults stop behaving like adults? Mckenna straightened her posture. She was getting tired of playing the peacemaker.

She placed two fingers in her mouth and she blew the whistle. Jason and Naya turned abruptly to stare at her. She pointed towards the exit.

"Take it outside, now!"

Jason grabbed Naya's hand and pulled her towards the the door but Naya slapped his hand off.

"I am quite capable of walking myself outside, jerk"

Once they were outside near the pond, away from the orphans and the duplex. Jason let himself go. Just poured the anger out.

"You are not allowed to take the high road, sir. I clearly remember you not showing up to her sixth birthday. You didn't even remember"

Jason calmed down just a little bit...at least his voice was calm.

"Why, Naya? Why would you tell a six year old that your ex-husband might want her dead? What were you hoping to achieve by doing that? Break her little spirit! She is six years old for fuck's sake"

Naya promised herself she wasn't going to cry but it had been a shitty day and the man in front of her was making it even crappier.

"When are you going to get it? Kara is not a normal child! She won't have the normal upbringing you want. She has to look over her shoulders for the rest of her life or at least until Kane is dead. She is not just any six years old"

Jason knew then she was never going to see any reason with him. She was too set in her ways.

"Kara is not you! You can't transfer your demons and your incessant fear of tomorrow to her. She can't live her life in hiding or in seclusion....stop turning my daughter into a battered woman that needs to walk on eggshells. You are wrecking her self esteem, Naya"

Naya felt the first drop of tears on her cheek. She quickly wiped it off. She wasn't the best mom of the century but she was a mother that kept her daughter safe.

"He is going to kill her"

"You don't know that, Naya"

"Actually, I do.. I watched as they fished out the body of my uncle Kyle from the river. Kane killed him and if he finds us, he will kill you, he will kill your pretty little wife and  he will take Kara from your cold dead fingers"
