Chapter 103 - Unedited Fate Of Mckenna

Chapter 103: fate of Mckenna

Mckenna had been gone all evening. No one would blame her, yesterday she knew her standing but today, she was just another girl with uncertainty and thoughts.

The black skirt she wore and the navy cardigan gave her just a little comfort but with time she would have loved nothing more than to take it off and soak herself in cold water.

She did her best to push Tamara Jones' appearance to the back of her mind. She still had to figure out what to do about the murderer called Jackson Donna. She still have to figure out if handing the tape over to the cops was the best thing for her family right that moment.

Mckenna was so sure of the good and bad before her husband's lover showed up at her doorstep with his biological love child.

But now? She had no idea whatsoever. Mckenna had questions.

Will her family survive another catastrophe? Was Jason still in love with Tamara Jones? Was Tamara still in love with Jason? Was Jason going to leave her for the woman who raised his real daughter for nine years?

Mckenna stared at herself in horror at the car mirror. What the hell did she mean by real daughter? She was so wrong in so many ways. Kara might be adopted but she was just as real as EJ.

Mckenna knew she needed to get her head out of the small space she shoved it in, she can't afford to be making that kind of mistake with her kid.

She picked up her phone and dialed Jackson's number. It rang only once before he picked it up.

"Mckenna, I am so glad you called…"

"Jackson, I need you to meet me at your office car park. We need to talk. You have twenty minutes" Mckenna hung up.

She checked the time, it was a few minutes past six. It took Jackson roughly twenty minutes to get to the packing structure.

Mckenna was startled when Jackson knocked on her window. She had been lost in her head thinking about Jason and Tamara Jones.

"I have been giving a lot of thoughts to the predicament you found yourself in, Jackson. A tiny part of me wished to understand why you would leave a dying child by a lonely bush to die. Maybe if you explained it, I would understand" Mckenna told him as soon as he got into the car.

"I…I don't know. I just panicked. Haven't you panicked before and did something you regretted later?" Jackson asked her

Mckenna shook her head.

"It's not the same. Getting drunk and making stupid decisions is not the same as murder, Jackson" Mckenna told him.

"I am sorry. I don't know what you want from me. Do you want me to say I am sorry again? I am sorry, Mckenna. I panicked and a little boy died and right now, I can't bring him back. Sending me to jail won't bring him back" Jackson spoke to her in a soft voice that held a hint of remorse.

"No, it won't"

Mckenna couldn't believe she was about to let a murder slide and a murderer walk free but she has to think about her family. Experiencing another national humiliation will hack them apart into a million unfixable pieces and she couldn't do that.

She chose her family over her conscience.

"I won't send you to jail. I won't send you to jail because you are my dad and no matter how much both of us deny it, you are still going to be my dad forever…"

Mckenna was interrupted by Jackson.

"Really? Thank you…. Mckenna. I…I really don't know what to say to you. Thank you so..so much" Jackson repeated over and over again.

Mckenna chuckled and then she laughed sadly in his face. She laughed hard until she was crying. What the hell, Jackson Donna? She wanted to yell at him.

That he was her biological father didn't make covering up a murder alright and he was thanking her for it.

"Are you alright?" Jackson asked her.

"No, I am not. Apart from pondering over your shitty behavior over and over again in my mind…because I can't understand for the life of me why someone…a father and a soon to be father would do that to a child, apart from thinking of a ways to soothe my conscience for even considering covering up for you, I still have to deal with my own shitty life"

Mckenna wiped her face.

"So, here is what we are going to do…to soothe my conscience. You will anonymously start paying that family you killed their youngest child a sum of two hundred thousand naira every month…"

"Done!" Jack's quickly added.

"I am not finished! They have an older daughter that just finished high school, you are going to move mountains to get her into a good state university to study under a scholarship that you, dearest papa, is going to give her. If that family sneezes as much, you are going to be buying cough medicine for them…can you manage that?" Mckenna asked him.

Jackson exhaled.

"Yes" he whispered to her at last.

"Good. Now, you may go. Congratulations! You got away with murder" Mckenna was disgusted.

She waited for Jackson to leave but he didn't.

He simply stared at her for a while.

"What's going on with you?" Jackson asked her.

"Nothing. Go…away" Mckenna told him in between her clenched jaw.

"Tell me what is going on with you?" He insisted.

"I am alright. Don't I look alright to you?" Mckenna asked him.

"Tell me, Mckenna. What is going on with you? Just talk to me, dear…."

"I think my husband is going to leave me for the woman he's been in love with for ten years who should be at my doorstep today with his nine year old daughter!" Mckenna didn't know why he admitted it to Jackson Donna of all the people in the world.

She was breathing unevenly as she tried to stop another fresh batch of tears from emerging.

She was surprised when Jackson turned to her face and stroked her hair like she was a child.

"No, he won't. You can count on that" Jackson reassured her.

"No, he really might and…I can't stop thinking that…that, I might be pregnant f-for Jason. I don't know why I am even telling you this" Mckenna shook her head and wiped her face.

"You are telling me because you want to hear me tell you that everything will be okay" Jackson told her "Because I might be the devil but I am still your father and when things get tough, children often run to their parents for comfort" Jackson explained to her.

"Will everything be okay, though?" Mckenna asked and looked at him.

She didn't know whether she was the one that leaned in or Jackson Donna pulled her but the next minute, she rested safely on Jackson's chest and his arms were around her comforting her.

"Everything is going to be alright, Sweetheart. He might be a Yagazie but you are a Donna, Mckenna….no one intentionally pokes the tiger without consequences. He won't leave you because I will seriously inflict hell on him if he does" Jackson threatened.

"No, you will do no such thing" Mckenna answered and pulled away from him.

"Even if Jason decides to leave, you will let him because he is a kind hearted man who has been one consistent thing in my life and whether we are together or not, his happiness matters to me. Are you clear on that?" Mckenna asked him.

"Hmm" Jackson grunted and smiled. It was not an answer.

He opened the door and he left her.

Mckenna sat there for a while before driving to a nearby pharmacy.

The pleasant lady by the counter was kind enough to point her to a pregnancy kit section. Mckenna grabbed a couple. She wondered whether she should be happy that she might be pregnant or terrified that she might be bringing in a child to a family that might break up tomorrow but whichever way, she was stoked that she can't find comfort in a bottle of alcoholic wine until she was sure that she wasn't.

But it didn't stop her from dropping by a supermarket to grab a couple of soda and alcoholic wine for later. And since cooking was out of the question, she picked up her phone and she ordered pizza for dinner.

Great! She wanted to yell at the world.

She was half way home when she remembered that Kara was still with Elena and Chike. Mckenna decided to call Elena and ask if Kara could spend the night with them but when she picked up her phone to dial her number, she saw a text message from Elena.

Kara had insisted that she be brought home and Elena had taken her.

"Great!" Mckenna exclaimed.

She drove inside the compound and she saw Elena and Kara sitting by the garden.

"What is going on, mom?" Kara asked as soon as Mckenna got down from the car.

Mckenna squatted down and cupped her cheeks.

"Your father and I, we have something to tell you…."
