Chapter 117: everything family
Jason stared at his wife.
"She is not a whore. She is the mother of my daughter"
Mckenna exhaled. She didn't want to be having this conversation with him. She didn't even recognize him anymore, how could he not see that she was frightened.
The last time she was in this hospital, he was fighting for his life and Kara was in surgery to have her appendix removed.
Mckenna hissed and tried to leave after say "I don't care. She is not touching my kid"
Jason stopped her from leaving.
"So, you are going to compromise our daughter's life because you are jealous of a woman I don't have feelings for?" Jason asked her.
"Fine! Have it your way, Jason. Tamara can operate on her but don't you dare tell me another lie" Mckenna opened the door and walked out.
She met the doctor standing in the room and she spoke to him.
"Dr Jones can operate on our daughter" Mckenna told him. She heard the door open again and she knew that Jason was standing behind her.
"I am sorry but she doesn't work in this hospital. She doesn't have privilege to operate on anyone"
"What's your name, Doctor?"
"Dr Ken" the man answered.
"Spell it" Mckenna demanded.
"K-E-N….short for Kenneth"
"I hate the shorter version of your name, doctor because it sounds like Kane, K-A-N-E, the name of the man that kidnapped my daughter and shot my husband. So, I am going to call you Kenneth, okay?"
"Yes, ma'am"
Mckenna folded her arms like she was hugging herself.
"Doctor Kenneth, I need you to give privilege to Dr Tamara Jones and before you say no, remember that I am willing to buy this hospital and have you fired in a second, then I will make sure you don't work again…"
"Are you threatening me, ma'am?" Dr Ken asked her.
"No, she is not" Jason quickly chipped in. "She is simply telling you what will happen next and if my daughter dies, imagine what she would do then" Jason stood behind her.
The doctor seemed genuinely rattled and who wouldn't be. Nobody wants to be enemies with one of the powerful families in the country.
"I would see what I can do" the doctor answered and left.
Mckenna let out a pent up breath. She had never threatened someone for just doing their job, it didn't seem fair and she was a fair person.
"I should find Tamara and let her know" Jason tried to leave but Mckenna stopped him.
"No. Allow me, Jason" Mckenna said and walked away.
"What's her problem?" Jason asked Amazing.
The girl simply shrugged. It wasn't her job to know.
Mckenna found Tamara and EJ sitting in the waiting room. EJ was focused on the television, so Tamara was the first to see Mckenna approach.
"How is she?"
Mckenna cleared her throat and tried to be impersonal as she explained.
"According to the doctor, she needs surgery to drain pus from her tummy and Jason thinks you should do it. So, will you?" Mckenna masked her true emotion as she spoke to Tamara.
At first, Tamara simply stared at her like she wasn't expecting that particular request.
"Isn't there a rule against operating on family?" Tamara asked her.
The last thing she wanted to do was operate on Jason's daughter.
"There is but you are not family, are you Tamara? So, will you do it? I am asking you to save my daughter. I think it's the least you can do for me after kissing my husband in my house" Mckenna decided to use blackmail and guilt.
Tamara scratched her hair for a few seconds and then her ear. She came closer to her.
"I owe you an apology. What I did was…unfair and stupid. I shouldn't have done that. I am sorry"
"No, you shouldn't have and now you owe me. Save my daughter and we are even" Mckenna held her gaze.
"Alright. I will do it" Tamara finally accepted.
"Good"
Mckenna walked away. She needed air and space to think.
Jason found her outside and sat down beside her. She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes briefly. She was too worried to be angry.
"I wish I knew why you are so mad at me, Oma. If I knew why, then maybe I can do something about it" Jason told her as his arms went around her.
"Can we just….can we just sit here and be frightened together about our daughter? We can talk about why I saw Tamara's head on your shoulder in the mansion this morning even when I explicitly told you that I don't want you to see her alone, Jason" Mckenna finally opened up to him.
Jason wanted to declare his innocence but the last time he forced her to talk before she was ready didn't exactly end well for both of them.
"Okay. We will talk about it later"
They sat out there for a while before Amazing came out to tell them that Kara was awake and Tamara was ready to operate.
The couple went back inside to sit with their daughter for a while before she was moved to the operating table.
"Is it going to hurt?" Kara asked them.
"Of course not, baby girl. You will be asleep the whole time and I even heard that EJ's Mom is a super doctor" Mckenna told her.
"Your mother and I will be here when you wake up. We love you" Jason kissed her hair and they watched as they wheeled her away.
Mckenna let out a breath and hugged Jason.
"I should call Naya" he said as he ran his hand on her back.
"I have. She is on her way. Why is your mother not here?" Mckenna asked him.
"She is not picking up my calls. She is angry that I got mad that she filed for full custody of EJ behind my back…."
"She did what?" Mckenna was alarmed.
"I know…I was shocked too and that was the only reason I met Tammy in the first place…to explain. I also told her that she owes you an apology for the kiss. Mckenna, we are just friends, okay?" Jason made her look at him. He ran his hands on her arms in a parallel motion. It was also soothing.
Mckenna didn't believe him but she nodded all the same.
She knew that sooner than later, she would have to tell him about the pregnancy but not now, not when she couldn't even trust him around Tammy.
"Okay" she murmured and to stop Jason from seeing through her weak 'yes', she quickly added "Maybe I should call Mom, myself. Excuse me"
Mckenna placed a call to Elixir Yagazie and told her everything that was going on.
She was in a political meeting but she told McKenna that she was coming right away.

Few hours later, Naya got down from the plane. She was just carrying a backpack as she didn't plan to stay long enough for Kane to figure out that she was gone.
She wore a long floral dress with a slit and a sunhat and sunglasses. She looked beautiful and well hidden under her disguise.
She took out her phone and checked the security footage of her home, still undisturbed.
The video of naked Kane beating her up was enough evidence for him to go to jail for assault and derail his career as a cop and it was the only thing keeping him from killing her or coming back for her daughter. Naya hoped it would stay that way.
She clutched onto her bag and she looked for the car Mckenna sent to pick her up.
She saw the Camry parked exactly where Mckenna said it would.
Naya walked up to the car and knocked on the car window, it rolled down. She wasn't expecting a teenager to be sitting behind the wheels.
"Hey"
Her face was devoid of a smile. She watched as the teenager went through his puppy love phase or whatever a crush, a teenager has on an older lady was called.
"You are beautiful" Max murmured to her.
Naya grinned "I take it that you are Max, Mckenna's baby brother"
Naya made an emphasis on 'baby'
"I will be eighteen very soon, you know" Max answered.
Naya leaned in closer to him "My daughter just had surgery, Maxie. Do you really want to be having this conversation with me? Come on, get out. I am driving" Naya opened the door and he got out.
Max went around and sat in the passenger's seat. He only allowed Naya to drive his car because he liked her.
Soon, Naya was at the hospital and on her way to see Kara.
Jason was in the room when she walked inside.
"Hey Naya, it's so good to see you" he kissed her cheek and hugged her briefly.
"Is she alright?" Naya asked and moved closer to Kara.
"Yes. She is fine now" Jason answered.
Naya first of all checked the windows and closed the blinds before she sat on the bed and she touched Kara's hair.
Kara opened her eyes and she couldn't believe who she was seeing at first.
"Mama?"
