[Cough] [Cough]
The room was quite dark and damp. Eva started coughing out quite intensely as soon as she stepped inside the pathetic place. The wooden floor was covered with dust and grits while the ceiling was coated with spider webs making a horrible appearance of the place right before her eyes. In the extreme corner of the room, there was a glass window that was broken in one part.
Through the cracked glass, dim sunrays sneaked inside the room which was the only source of comfort inside that shabby place. The room was quite small in size and entirely vacant.
But a small, mysterious medium-sized wooden box was kept just below the window which immediately caught her attention at the first glance. Looking all around the empty place, she slowly walked closer to the box which was covered in dust and moist. While walking on the damp floor, it was making several creaking noises as if the building was about to collapse at any moment.
"How can they keep their precious coffee beans inside such a shabby place? Is it a way to avoid burglars? Or...something is seriously wrong with the farmhouse! And what's with this weird box?" Gulping her saliva down, she reached the box in a few steps and kneeled down on the ground curiously gazing at it.
There was a small metal knob at the edge of the box and just by pressing the knob, it made a clutching sound of opening the lock. In that procession, she swallowed some dust particles and continued coughing again. After intense anticipation, she fully opened the partition of the box trying to steal a glimpse inside.
The box was vacant too except an old, crooked, torn piece of newspaper was kept inside of it. She was expecting some kinds of stuff inside the box but only finding out an old newspaper, it baffled her quite badly. Taking a deep sigh out, she took out the paper, tried to unfold and peek a glance at it.
All of a sudden a huge thunderbolt crashed on her heart as it throbbed with extreme fear! Her limbs started to tremble along with her arm which was shivering quite badly. She swirled her eyeballs, gulped her saliva, and took an intense breath out fixing her gaze on the news article which was published on that piece of paper.
"June 25, 2010; Due to the sudden fatal demise of Mr. Joss, the executive, and proprietor of Brooklyn Coffee Farm, the place will be permanently shut down and the acres of land will be handed to the government for future purpose as reported by his family members. So, thereby, Brook Coffee Beans will be permanently closing its business in the entire Italian Province as well as overseas. The family members have thanked everyone earnestly for their honest co-operation till the time span of 25 years and would be wishing their sincere kindness further ahead. For now, his eldest son has requested a criminal investigation for the reason behind his father's sudden demise that occurred last night. Further reports will be revealed according to the sources probing ahead."
Reading the article in a trembling voice, suddenly, the piece of paper plopped down from her arm. Her legs were shivering anxiously and gasping aloud in dread, she wanted to cry out aloud in terror. Covering her mouth with her shaking palm, she looked again at the paper rolled beside her as tears of angst dripped down from the corner of her eyes. She could evidently understand that she had severely endangered her life this time and the realization hit her quite hard.
"That means...Did Mr. Beck lie to me all this time? He must have known that this place is already closed 10 years ago but still...he asked me to visit here? Fuck! Fuck Eva! Why can't you understand people's hidden intentions? Why do you still trust people so blindly? Fuck! I am badly screwed right now!" Grumbling in a broken voice she started biting her nails while glancing at the door of the room. Immediately without wasting a few seconds, she stood up from the ground and dashed towards the door sweating profusely.
"I have to get out of here right now... I must get out of here!" Wiping her tears while trying to console herself, she grabbed the doorknob and clenched it in the opposite direction using her entire strength. Luckily, it worked and the door clutched open which calmed her fear a little bit.
Desperately gasping air, she ran straight through the stairs towards the giant door through which they entered in. She was dimly hoping that perhaps the door had been left unlocked but her presumption was wrong this time. Reaching the door, she tried to pull the partitions with all her might, also clutching the doorknob with a feeble hope alive in her heart that perhaps it would open like earlier. But it seemed that the door was tightly locked from outside and no matter how hard she tried to push that away, the door didn't even budge a little.
"Fuck it!" Her heart was pounding in fear as she turned around looking at the giant house all around. There were several rooms inside the two-storeyed house and all of them were shut-in leaving her all alone in that horrific place.
"Mr. Thomas! Mr. Thomas, can you hear me? Open this fucking door! I wanna get out of here! You can't fool me anymore! I don't want your fucking coffee beans, just let me get out of here! Do you hear me? Get me out of here, you scumbag! Mr. Thomas! Where the fuck are you!?"
Gathering up her entire strength, she screamed out aloud fuming in rage while glancing all around the house. Not a single soul seemed to respond to her intense scream but her voice reverberated like an echo inside the desolated dark mansion. Trying hard to hold herself from breaking down, she immediately came up with an idea and started rushing upstairs to that shabby room again.
One side of the glass window was broken in that room. If she could manage to break the other half and try to jump off it, at least there will be a feeble hope of getting out of the place alive. This was the only option that was left with her and in the flash of a second, she reached the room panting heavily.
But something even more terrifying was awaited for her!
Her feet halted and her teary eyes rolled wider in shock at the sight ahead of her! The wooden box and the paper had no trace left and disappeared from the room mysteriously! Also, it seemed as the broken glass was magically fixed by someone with two intact glass halves covering it. The sight was horrific to bear with and just by a small glance, she had shuddered in fear.
"I am sure...no...no one came into this room! Then..how could the glass repair on its own? And...the box? The paper? Wh-Where did it go? Is...Is someone playing with me? No...No I can't wait anymore... I must do something!"
Wondering inside her mind looking all ardent, she immediately grabbed a pointed heel shoe that she was wearing on and dashed towards the glass window with staggering footsteps. Unable to come up with any other hope, fiercely she banged the previously broken area of the glass window with her heel shoe to crack it open using her entire strength.
But fate had decided not to spare her any mercy despite all her fervent attempts. She hit the glass window parts several times with those pointed heels, each time increasing the force but nothing seemed to budge those glass partitions. They were intact as usual making her mind going all crazy.
"Fuck! Why they aren't breaking? What's wrong with this glass! Why won't it crack open? What the fuck?" She cried out aloud, almost losing her hope to get out of the place safe and secured. While she was sobbing, suddenly, she felt as if someone sneaked a peek inside the room, and in a rush, she turned behind at the door. But no one seemed to be there and her heart started to pound like crazy.
Abruptly putting her heels back, she ran down the stairs looking terribly scared of all the strange happenings. Soon she reached the main door and started banging the metal knob screaming out aloud in tears.
"HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME! PLEASE GET ME OUT OF HERE! PLEASE HELP! SOMEONE...ZE...ZEUS!"
...
WHAAMM!
"AEEKK!"
All of a sudden, a sharp blow hit the back of her head as she whimpered out in pain. Abruptly, her mind started to feel dizzy and the vision right in front of the eyes blurred out. The blow was much hard that her entire head started to ache severely. Her legs gave upon the strength and in the jolt of a second, she plopped down on the ground helplessly looking at the door before darkness prevailed right before her eyes.
"Ze...us..." She mumbled her last word with a drop of tear dripping down before losing her consciousness.
