Chapter 44

Tang Xinru turned her head towards Qin Mo and instinctively called his name.

But Qin Mo took that box and placed it into his pants pocket.

At that instant, Tang Xinru’s face blackened. How could she not understand what Qin Mo’s actions meant…

The things and feelings he invested in Gu Xi would never be given to her!

Qin Mo looked at Gu Xi, and he said in a calm voice, “Gu Xi, do you have to be like this?”

When he saw her, he was a little startled, but he could immediately guess who invited her!

He did not care about Tang Xinru, but he cared about how Gu Xi could be so cruel.

How could she cruelly watch him fall into a bottomless pit?

This was the darkest day in Qin Mo’s life, and he did not want her to see even a bit at all!

Gu Xi smiled. “It was something I should have returned to you earlier. I just took my time to return it.”

Qin Mo became speechless and at that moment, Pei Qian held Gu Xi’s hand. “Let’s go in!”

Gu Xi nodded her head and when she brushed shoulders with Qin Mo, she heard Pei Qian softly say, “President Qin, happy marriage!”

Qin Mo pursed his lips. “Pei Qian…”

Pei Qian inched closer to his ear, and he whispered in a deep voice, “I’m serious about Gu Xi!”

“She is still a virgin,” he said in an even deeper voice and his thin lips curled up.

Qin Mo was shocked…

Gu Xi never did that thing with Pei Qian?

Pei Qian smiled and left. Only then did Qin Mo realize that he was the one who had brought her to the top before easily giving up on her!

He gave up Gu Xi. Other than Tang Xinru, wasn’t the biggest reason that led to their breakup was that she and Pei Qian had sex together?

He stood rooted to the ground and did not move while his face turned as pale as a white sheet of paper.

On the night of his engagement with Tang Xinru, Pei Qian dealt him a finishing blow!

“Qin Mo,” Tang Xinru softly called out.

Qin Mo lifted his eyes. He was filled with disgust when he looked at the scheming woman!

It was the night of their engagement banquet. Thus, even if he was disgusted, he had to keep his act up!

“Let’s go,” Qin Mo coldly said.

Tang Xinru saw that hint of anger in his eyes…

Qin Mo’s engagement ceremony was simple yet grand. To make it even more sarcastic, the emcee they invited was the same person from the last engagement banquet!

Gu Xi looked from downstairs and in her heart, she knew Tang Xinru was purposely pitting against her!

Pei Qian looked up, and he calmly asked, “How is it?”

“It’s fine.” Gu Xi pursed her lips. “What did you say to Qin Mo just now?”

Pei Qian laughed gently. “I congratulated him.”

Gu Xi coldly scoffed. “Are you even that nice?”

“Gu Xi, it seems like you know me very well.” Pei Qian’s voice sounded a little lazy…

Gu Xi did not pursue the topic further because she knew he would not say anything either.

On the other side, Tang Xinru was so elated that tears spilled from her eyes. She held Qin Mo’s hands as they swayed together for the opening dance. For the first time in her life, she felt victorious over Gu Xi.

Because she successfully stole Gu Xi’s beloved man!

Unlike her elated mood, Qin Mo looked much calmer.

He expressionlessly shared the dance with her, and his gaze was directed towards Gu Xi.

Gu Xi leaned towards Pei Qian and pulled a soft smile. There were times where Pei Qian would place his hand on her waist, but she did not shun away from him!

“Qin Mo… she is already together with Mr. Pei.” Tang Xinru had looked up at him before placing her head on his shoulders. “Please forget her! She is not worth it!”

Qin Mo tried to stop himself from pushing her away.

For the whole night, he could see Gu Xi, but he could not speak a word to her.

After the opening dance was over, Qin Mo took a wine glass from the waiters and drank.

He witnessed Gu Xi sharing a dance with Pei Qian, and he even noticed a faint smile on her lips.

He had lost her… and indirectly pushed her into Pei Qian’s embrace!

After Gu Xi and Pei Qian had finished a dance together, Gu Xi said, “I’m going to the washroom.”

Pei Qian intently stared at her for a while, and then he said, “Go ahead.”

Gu Xi walked slowly to the washroom…

When she walked out of the washroom, Qin Mo was silently standing by a French window on the corridor.

Gu Xi looked at him while he turned to look at her…

She slowly walked towards him.

“Qin Mo, happy engagement.” She had smiled before she took a long box out. “This is your engagement present.”

Qin Mo looked at the box as she prepared to leave.

He opened it up and saw a silver star-shaped necklace.

He had seen her wear it before!

But why did she give it to him?

A strange feeling emerged in his heart and he pulled Gu Xi’s hand. “Don’t leave!”

Qin Mo raised the necklace. “Tell me, what do you mean by this?”

“Gu Xi, are you trying to make me not forget you so I’d feel guilty forever?” He kept a fixed gaze on her. “If that’s the case, then why did you give up on me so easily?”

As he said that, his fist punched the pole behind her. Blood soon seeped from his wound and flowed down his finger gaps, staining the necklace red…

But Gu Xi could only silently stare at him. “Qin Mo, that belongs to you. I am just returning it to you.”

“After my parents got into an accident, you gave that to me.” She pulled a faint smile and then left.

The year her parents got into an accident?

Blood drained from Qin Mo’s face…

He initially thought that he had suffered his biggest blow earlier on. However, Gu Xi’s words left him totally shocked and in despair.

He had always thought that her feelings for him were light yet existent.

But now, when he looked at the necklace, he realized that he could be wrong…

And Gu Xi was wrong as well!

The necklace was never his, so it was not possible for him to give it to her.

The year her parents got in an accident, he was not yet part of the Qin Family…. It was Pei Qian who was around!

The person Gu Xi had been thinking about was Pei Qian!

Qin Mo laughed in self-mockery. He laughed at his foolishness and… Gu Xi’s foolishness too!

‘Gu Xi, are you even aware that you liked the wrong person?’

It was no wonder that she always stared at his face as though she was trying to recall something. Her eyes always had a sense of discerning and hesitation…

It was because he wasn’t the person she was looking for!

He was just a mistake in her life!

That night, Qin Mo got terribly drunk and Tang Xinru had her suspicions. But she did not dare to stop him.

Pei Qian glanced at Qin Mo and curled his lips into a smile. “It looks like he has yet to give up on you!”

“How stupid.” Gu Xi took her handbag and walked towards the entrance. Pei Qian held her hand and said in a very deep voice, “Running after you are done using me?”

Gu Xi stared silently at him. “Mr. Pei, I think we are both very clear that we are just using each other for tonight.”

He looked at her and reached out his long and fair fingers to touch her red lips. In a deep and raspy voice, he said, “Gu Xi, what if I say that I want to warm up both of our bodies tonight?”
