Gu Xi looked at him and then softly said, “Tonight, can I…”

“You can’t,” he quickly replied without hesitation.

He held her hand and walked out of the hall.

Unfortunately, they met Qin Mo at the entrance of the hall.

Qin Mo and Tang Xinru were sending their guests off and this was the closest distance they have ever stood since the start of the banquet.

Pei Qian hooked his arm over Gu Xi’s shoulders while acting as indifferent as ever. “We will take our leave first. Miss Tang, please take care of President Qin. It seems that he drank too much.”

Tang Xinru pursed her lips. “I will.”

She raised her head to look at Qin Mo, only to see him staring intensely at Gu Xi.

His gaze was intense and passionate… No one could have missed it.

And such a gaze was like a slap across Tang Xinru’s face.

She looked at Gu Xi and tried to control her expression. “Please take care of Gu Xi, too. She doesn’t seem to be in a good mood.”

“Really?” Pei Qian raised Gu Xi’s chin as he looked at her lovingly. “Gu Xi, am I not doing a good job?”

Gu Xi could not stand his actions and gently remove his hand from her face. “You are doing great!”

Must he make a big scene, especially when there were so many people watching them?

Tang Xinru looked at Gu Xi with envy; however, she directed her anger at Pei Qian. “Mr. Pei, Gu Xi liked someone else before so please take good care of her. Please don’t mind her.”

Just then, Qin Song walked over and upon hearing Tang Xinru’s words, he furrowed his eyebrows.

Why was Qin Mo’s wife so disobedient?

How could she say such spiteful words on her engagement banquet? If the word got out, people would only think that she was being petty.

Lin Wan was beside him. She pulled a smile but did not speak.

Gu Xi calmly looked at Tang Xinru and knew that Tang Xinru said it on purpose to embarrass her.

Just when she was about to defend herself, Pei Qian held her hand and pulled a faint smile. “I don’t mind as long as Gu Xi is willing to be with me.”

What great acting he has there!

Gu Xi raised her head to face him and pursed her lips to remain silent.

Tang Xinru did not manage to get her revenge; however, with Qin Song around, she did not dare to act rashly anymore.

Besides, the person who was getting engaged to Qin Mo was her—Tang Xinru!

Qin Mo was very drunk as he looked deep into Gu Xi’s eyes. “Gu Xi, what about me? What am I going to do?”

He took a step forward. He wanted to snatch her away from Pei Qian, but then he heard Qin Song growl at him. “Qin Mo, do you still have any idea what kind of celebration we are having now?”

Qin Mo looked up and there was a glint of self-mockery in his eyes. “I know. Today is the day I would enter a cage and…”

He pointed at Tang Xinru. “In the future, I would live with a woman whom I don’t even love for the rest of my life…”

He started laughing as he continued on, “For the rest of my life… Gu Xi, you promised me that we would be together for the rest of our lives, too!”

Hearing his words up until that point, everyone could not bear to listen to him further.

Fortunately, most of the guests had already left and the remaining people were all people whom they knew.

Feeling rather embarrassed by his son, Qin Song scolded Tang Xinru, “Bring him away!”

Tang Xinru bit her lip and grudgingly helped Qin Mo up to tow him away.

Qin Mo did not resist, only staring at Gu Xi with a deep gaze.

Tang Xinru dragged him away together with two other men… After walking for quite some distance, he pushed Tang Xinru away and walked to the car at the entrance himself.

There was only Qin Song, Lin Wan, Pei Qian, and Gu Xi left at the scene.

Staring at Gu Xi… No matter how long Qin Song stared, Gu Xi still looked a hundred times better than Tang Xinru—be it looks, aura, or personality.

There was only one woman, but he had two sons.

One of them nearly got engaged with her while another slept with her. As a father, he would naturally choose the latter.

His tone of voice softened, “Xiao Xi, I have my difficulties, too!”

Gu Xi smiled. “Don’t worry, Uncle Song. I will not take it to heart. In the future, there will still be many partnerships between the Qin Family and the Gu Family. There’s no need to take such small matters to heart.”

Small matter?

Qin Song gave a burst of bitter laughter in his heart. Qin Mo looked as if half of his soul was sucked out of his body. Did that seem like a small matter to her?

His impression of Gu Xi changed. He knew that Gu Xi had feelings for Qin Mo, but now, she was acting as if everything was fine…

‘Isn’t this brat being too heartless?’

An inexplicable feeling crept up his heart while he turned around to face Pei Qian. He gave a faint smile. “With Pei Qian here to take care of you, I feel relieved.”

Gu Xi lowered her eyes and did not carry on the conversation. Pei Qian, on the other hand, faintly replied, “It’s my pleasure to be able to be together with Gu Xi.”

Qin Song stared at him for a long time and then kept quiet afterward.

Just then, Lin Wan suddenly said, “Long time no see, Pei Qian!”

Pei Qian glanced at her and said in a cold tone of voice, “Mrs. Qin.”

He then bid his goodbye to Qin Song with Gu Xi in his arms.

However, Lin Wan suddenly stopped him. “Pei Qian, aren’t you going to introduce her to your friends?”

Pei Qian side-eyed her, and upon seeing his young and handsome face, Lin Wan’s pupils constricted. However, she quickly regained her composure and smiled. “At least let everyone know about your progress.”

“Progress?” Pei Qian gave a light chuckle. “I didn’t know that you actually cared about me.”

He looked at Qin Song and implied, “I believe President Qin would tell you everything once both of you have reached home.”

Lin Wan laughed and hugged Qin Song’s arm while looking rather elegant when doing so. She then acted cute in front of Qin Song. “Qin Song, look. My classmate is dating Gu Xi and you did not even tell me about it! You are neglecting your duty as my husband.”

Qin Song patted her hand. “It’s all my fault.”

“In that case, let’s meet-up when you are free,” Lin Wan said. It really sounded like former classmates casually having a conversation, as if they were very familiar with each other.

Pei Qian gave an evil yet charming smile. “Are you planning to check my bank account or something?”

He turned around to face Gu Xi. “It depends on whether Gu Xi would allow me to meet-up with other women.”

Gu Xi was stumped.

She had seen Lin Wan before, but her impression of her was only limited to her young and pretty looks. Other than the fact that she probably married Uncle Qin for the money, she really did not know much about her.

It was only until then did she realize that Lin Wan was Pei Qian’s classmate.

But what must he ask for her permission if they wanted to meet-up?

Just when she was still feeling bewildered by his words, Pei Qian kissed her forehead and lovingly said, “Fool, are you really going to let me go out with another woman? Hmm?”

“Can you bear it to happen?” asked Pei Qian as he kissed her forehead again. ‘It’s so cringy!’

Gu Xi was completely stumped. ‘Isn’t he getting too immersed in his acting?’

She raised her head to look at him with a cute expression on her face.

Pei Qian kissed her again and a teasing glint could be seen in his eyes. “Be good and tell me whether you mind it or not?”

He loosely placed his warm palm on her waist and she immediately knew. If she dared to say no, he would probably act out some… restricted scenes here.

“Of course… I mind!” Gu Xi smiled and looked towards Lin Wan. “If there are any activities in the future, Mrs. Qin can tag along with us if she wants to.”
