Chapter 16：Let's Make a Bet?

Pan Gaoshou and the others' faces darkened. "Gu Xi, what are you doing?! You were not even born when your grandpa and I were building our careers!"

Gu Xi scoffed in her heart, but her face remained void of expression. She casually threw a document onto the desk. "If both of you could show this to grandpa without feeling a single sense of guilt, I will immediately resign from my general manager position."

Both of them quickly flip open the document to read its contents, only to be shocked by it.

"President Pei said that…" Yin Jiangmin wanted to continue on, but he was cut off by Pan Gaoshou who heaved a long sigh. "Stop talking!"

He looked at Gu Xi with guilt written all over his face. "Gu Xi, we are too shameful to face your grandpa. Please talk to him in our place."

Gu Xi remained unmoved while talking in a gentle tone of voice. "I believe Grandpa would be very curious to ask both of you… in what way did the Gu Group let both of you down?"

Old Master Gu was very loyal and often closed an eye to the bunch of elderly in the Gu Group who refused to retire. This led to the entire Gu Group to have an aging population. Whenever Gu Xi had a new idea, it was always hindered with obstacles…

However, the two of them opened a door to a solution!

Hence, she could not help but mention that Pei Qian did indirectly help her find a solution to this problem.

Despite this, Gu Xi would not admit to it for Pei Qian would forever remain as a bastard in her heart.

Both men were guilt-ridden and only managed to find their voice again after a long while. "Gu Xi, it was a thoughtless decision of ours!"

"With that said, I will not pursue the bad deeds you have done for all these years on grandpa's account." Gu Xi's voice turned colder as she added, "But I also hope that both of you would consider our past accounts and don't 'miss' the Gu Group too much after you leave."

Both of them immediately understood her words. Although they were able to leave the company without much trouble, their descendants could potentially have their career paths hindered by Gu Xi. This meant that they could be demoted or deported to branch offices or even be fired by the company.

They kept a gloomy expression and had long lost their fighting spirit. Moreover, they were no longer the seniors who could have their noses in the air.

When they walked out of the company entrance, Old Pan passed a cigarette to Yin Jiangmin. "Old Yin, we have screwed up big time!"

Old Yin naturally understood him, however, he kept a cold expression. "That rascal, Pei Qian, took us for a ride!"

Old Pan had taken a few glances at him before he turned around to look at Gu Xi's office, and he softly said, "Couldn't you tell?"

"What do you mean?" Old Yin took a drag of his cigarette.

Pan Gaoshou lowered his voice. "Pei Qian does not have a grudge against us, so he wasn't probably trying to deal with us, but…"

A glint of tease flashed past his eyes and Old Yin immediately understood his meaning. He burst into laughter. "Oh, right! He's trying to deal with Qin Mo!"

"Don't belittle Pei Qian! That rascal is more ruthless than his father ever was!" Old Pan scoffed. "Just take a look at how much losses the Qin Group suffered because of him for the past few years!"

He paused for a while before adding, "He even stole Qin Mo's potential wife!"

Old Yin did not continue the conversation. After all, they were not in a good position to comment on it.

Even Old Gu did not complain about it and decided to let nature take its course, much less them…

Old Yin suddenly asked a question that was out in the left-field. "What do you think Old Gu was planning when he purposely told us to sell our shares to Pei Qian?"

"As long as both of us got the idea, we shouldn't mention it here anymore!" Old Pan chuckled. "Besides, it's his granddaughter that he is dealing with! We don't have to feel sorry for her. After all, that brat treats us as her enemy now!"

He and Old Pan met eyes and laughed. They then left the company together.

They were old and the business could only be left in the hands of the young… As for Old Gu, he just had to plan behind the scenes!

Indeed, the human resource department made an announcement that day. Gu Xi decided to demote and fire the predecessors of those two previous shareholders from the company, and that became the hot topic of the day.

However, upon seeing those two big bosses packing their stuff and leaving, current employees did not dare say a word in fear that they would end up like them.

One must understand that protecting oneself was the utmost principle of surviving in an office.

Gu Xi continued doing her work until it was time to knock off. But in contrast to the happy faces of her colleagues, she did not feel very happy about knocking off. Instead, she seemed a little troubled.

Because Pei Qian had asked her to go to the villa tonight.

Gu Xi did mentally prepare herself for the worse when she signed the contract, however, it was time for her to face the music—she was still very resistant to it… Although he did look very handsome and had a great body.

Lin Yunzhi knocked onto her door and said in an indifferent tone of voice, "Manager Gu, President Qin called again!"

Gu Xi raised her head and silently looked at Lin Yunzhi for a few seconds before replying, "Don't bother about him! Just don't let him come upstairs!"

Lin Yunzhi nodded her head, however, she still felt that it was not a good idea to leave President Qin waiting downstairs.

After all, all the employees in the Gu Group were waiting to make a joke out of it.

Just then, the telephone on Gu Xi's desk rang. She reached her hand out to answer it and a sweet voice could be heard from outside of her office. "President Gu, the call is from President Pei!"

Gu Xi unknowingly furrowed her eyebrows and Lin Yunzhi sensibly went downstairs.

Gu Xi answered the call. "Have you knocked off? How about I get my chauffeur to come to fetch you?"

"No, thank you. I can drive there on my own," Gu Xi replied to him without hesitation. What a joke! If his chauffeur really came to fetch her, it would be too ostentatious! There was no way she was going to allow that to happen unless she wanted all of her employees to know that he was keeping her.

Pei Qian did not insist and casually said a few words before ending the call.

He had just put down the phone when he saw Shen Che in front of him. "You came all the way here just to watch me call Gu Xi?"

Shen Che curled his lips up. "I especially came here to give you a reminder!"

He leaned forward and lowered his voice. "Manager Gu finally showed her prowess today. She fired a few managers and supervisors today… However, she did not even feel sorry for them. Those people whom she fired were talents who had worked in the Gu Group for at least ten years!"

Pei Qian looked at Shen Che calmly. "And your point is?"

"Gu Xi is such a ruthless girl and there's nothing cute about her. I really don't understand what you like about her!" Shen Che gave a light chuckle.

Pei Qian did not seem to care. "It's not like I want to marry her! These are not important to me!"

"Oh!" Shen Che wore a teasing smile on his face. "I have to say that Qin Mo is really devoted to Gu Xi. I am very sure that this rascal would definitely continue wooing Gu Xi even after you dumped her."

As he finished his sentence, Pei Qian's expression immediately turned sour.

He watched Shen Che shrug his shoulders as he gave him a meaningful smile. "How about we make a bet?"

Pei Qian maintained a cold expression. "That would never happen!"

Shen Che's smile became exceptionally charming. "Oh, really?"

He curled his lips up. "Are you not planning to break up with Gu Xi or…"

It was a pity that Pei Qian never liked to join hands with anyone, for he had already stood up and taken his jacket to leave.
