As they were talking, a loud wailing arose from the bedroom.
Shangguan Ning instantly dragged Zhao Anan in there. “Oh no, my son has woken up. I need to go and check on him.”
Zhao Anan rushed into the bedroom with excitement, and happily pinched his face seeing Shangguan Ning picking the little one from the baby’s cot.
Zhao Zhao scolded her. “Stop it! Jing Rui has tender skin. He can’t stand your pinching! Stay away from him, you are not careful.”
Zhao Anan ignored her and continued to pinch Jing Rui’s face, except that she was not using any strength.
She rolled her eyes at Zhao Zhao. “Mom, are you really my mother? I have just come back home and you are already scolding me. Jing Rui is my nephew, and I love him so much. I won’t pinch him hard. Good that Ning is not someone from outside the family, otherwise she would have thought that I am a cruel person. You are trying to create a rift between us!”
Zhao Zhao did not believe what she said, so she stretched out her hand and struck hard upon her back.
Zhao Anan screamed in an exaggerating way. “Oh my god! My mom is trying to kill her own daughter. You are getting so ruthless. My spine has broken!”
“Have you ever thought of me as your mother?! Have you ever considered coming back to me?”
Zhao Zhao did not look pleased. She glared at Zhao Anan and scolded her. “I brought you up by myself and this is how you pay me back. You left without saying a word and even lied to me about returning to A City with Mu Qing. You are getting very bold. You even dared to steal Mu Qing’s money. When will you learn to be obedient? I am not a mother to such an unruly daughter! Without you, I would live much longer!”
Zhao Anan realized that she had worried her mother a lot this time. So she took hold of Zhao Zhao’s arms and admitted her mistake. “Mom, I am sorry I made a mistake. But I am here now. I missed you very much when I was abroad. During the past six months, I finally realized that A City is the best, home is the best, mom is the best!”
Zhao Anan was not just trying to please Zhao Zhao.
She did miss home a great deal during the time when she was imprisoned.
She was the apple of Zhao Zhao’s eyes, and had not experienced much bitterness in her life. Apart from the chemotherapy that she had to go through, the biggest pain she had suffered was to have a fight with someone else, ending up beaten and swollen up.
Being imprisoned, starved and forced to eat the same thing every single day and not being able to go anywhere, had been the biggest torment for her mind.
During those times, Zhao Anan would miss Zhao Zhao’s care and love for her. She had always been able to get anything she ever wanted, since childhood.
Maybe she had really grown up and become mature, now. She would normally be unmoved by Zhao Zhao’s lecture every time she returned home, but now, she felt deep guilt and unhappiness.
She really had been way too unruly and a terrible daughter!
Her mother had got grey hair and wrinkles, yet she had to worry about her daughter every single day. She had not only handled the return of her tumor, but also gone through the torment of missing her when she was away.
Zhao Zhao knew her daughter well. Seeing her admit her mistake for the very first time, she understood that she was being sincere, otherwise she would have behaved differently.
But she still kept a long face in front of Zhao Anan, otherwise her daughter would soon change her attitude. She must teach her a good lesson this time.
After pampering Zhao Zhao for a while, Zhao Anan finally made Zhao Zhao smile.
Neither Mu Qing nor Jing Yichen entered the bedroom. They were talking in the dining room. Shangguan Ning closed the bedroom door, and picked up Jing Rui, and lifted her dress to feed him.
Zhao Anan looked at her nephew who was drinking his mother’s milk in excitement and thought that he was very cute. She wanted to take him in her arms and play with him.
Jing Rui looked energetic after a good sleep and fully fed.
He was totally different from the day when he was born. He was growing up fast every single day.
Zhao Anan stood by Shangguan Ning’s side and asked expectantly. “Ning, can I hold him, now?”
Seeing her getting so excited, Shangguan Ning could not help but burst into laughter. “Of course, you are his aunt. You can hold him for as long as you want. He doesn’t reject anyone.”
Jing Rui was very obedient and docile, and he never cried. He did not turn any stranger down, but stared at the person with a pair of large and dark eyes.
Jing Tianyuan had visited Jing Rui two days ago, and the baby smiled at him when he had taken him in his arms. That made grandpa so glad that he gave Jing Rui one of his properties immediately, saying that he could use it to buy candies.
Now when Zhao Anan held him in her arms, Jing Rui was still very obedient. He blew bubbles and stuffed his fingers into his mouth.
Zhao Anan had never held such a small baby. She was being very careful, fearing that she would hurt him somehow.
She looked at Zhao Zhao as she saw the resemblance between Jing Rui and Jing Yichen. “Mom, do you think that Ruirui looks a lot like my cousin when he was young?”
Zhao Zhao laughed. “Of course, I even have a picture of your cousin when he was this small. They are completely alike.”
Shangguan Ning had also seen a young Jing Yichen’s pictures. Jing Rui truly resembled his father. Shangguan Ning was glad. She felt that Jing Yichen was the most handsome man in the world, and if their son resembled him, then he would naturally look good.
Zhao Anan suddenly felt that having a baby was not such a bad thing, as she saw the lovely and cute little thing in her arms.
As he grows older, he would start to walk, and talk. Then the entire home would be filled with laughter and love.
She had never thought that rearing a baby would be fun, because children were usually noisy and irritating.
But holding Jing Rui in her arms made her suddenly realize that they could also be angelic, lovely and adorable.
Was it because Jing Rui was her nephew? Or because Jing Rui was such a docile boy that she also wanted to have one too?
The idea startled Zhao Anan.
She had never thought about giving birth to babies. For one thing, it was because she did not like children that much, and for another, she knew the condition that she was in. She might never be able to give birth to a baby and even if she did, she may have to leave the child alone in this world if her tumor returned.
A child without a mother was never going to be happy. Look at Jing Yichen who had lost his mother when he was young, and even Shangguan Ning who lost hers, early.
Zhao Anan suppressed the idea. But she did not want to let go of Jing Rui and stuck to him for long.
She was thinking that she could treat Jing Rui as her own son, spoil him and watch him grow up!
