…
After the show, Edam was summoned in Sengoku's office once again…
Sengoku was looking at him with a strange gaze again while the little monkey quietly stood in front of him.
"You… sigh… what happened?" Sengoku didn't want to shout at him anymore and so he asked calmly.
"...well, it's truly not my fault this time, he provoked me, attacked me and even tried to kill my friend…" Edam said with his eyes averting to the side but didn't have any regret at all. In fact, if he had to do it again, he would...
"..." Sengoku fell silent and then added.
"...Okay, go…"
"...?" Edam was stunned at this as his eyes darted on him and tilted his head.
"What? You have something else to tell me?" With a stern gaze, Sengoku asked.
"Uh… no…" He said but then something passed by his mind. "Ah, in fact, yes I have something to ask…"
Narrowing his eyes Sengoku asked. "And what is it?"
Coughing a bit Edam replied. "Ahem, so it's like this, I have a huge problem with my unit's official name…."
"...?"
"I mean, Rainbow unit sounded overly… gay? Yeah, we appear kind of weak in front of pirates, the last time we introduced ourselves they completely burst in laughter and mocked us…" Edam's face twitched and darkened as he recounted the story.
"Although we wrecked them afterward, my unit dignity was completely crushed, so I asked in all due respect to change our name, please…" He asked sincerely.
Meanwhile, Sengoku listened attentively before he asked. "And what would you suggest?"
"Oh, umm, what about…" He pondered for a moment and then said.
"... The unit S.E.A.L? Sounds good no? It's short and cool to hear…" Of course there was another meaning in it, but meh, he doesn't have to know of it.
Sengoku was surprised at his suggestion, he thought that the little brat would choose an overly arrogant name.
"SEAL huh…" Sengoku closed his eyes before opening them again and said calmly.
"...Fine… Your unit will be renamed as such… now go and don't let me see you in a few days, and please don't cause trouble…." He clearly emphasized his last words.
"Oh thanks, Gramps- uh I mean Fleet Admiral, I will get lost now, and as for trouble, they are the one who comes at me, cya!" With that said, he got out of the office in a flash.
"..."
…
Edam was then gone to speak a few words with his friends before going straight to grandpa's house.
When he arrived, the sun was already setting down.
There, Edam saw him sitting alone around a table, well not all alone, Big sis Stella was standing by his side with a smile as they seemingly waited for his arrival. They seemed to be speaking about mundane things before, laughing here and there.
"Sis, grandpa, am back."
He first gave Stella a big hug as she gave a small peck on his forehead and then proceeded to sit in front of grandpa.
"Sis you won't sit down with us?" He inquired curiously.
"Oh, no no, your grandpa has something to tell you personally, so I will leave you two…" And she made her way into the house.
"Hmm, okay…" He then turned toward Garp and asked. "So…? What did you call me for gramps?"
Garp weirdly enough didn't have his annoying and familiar smirk on his face as he quietly stood up.
"Come with me boy…"
"...?" Edam tilted his head and stood up as he followed his grandpa silently.
He stayed behind Garp all along and shut his mouth. Something seemed to bother his grandpa's mind it seems. He even began to feel nervous as he seldom saw such an expression on his grandfather's face.
'Why is grandpa acting like this? I didn't eat his hidden crackers though… Or maybe he's angry because I beat up that guy earlier? Nah I don't think so… what is it?'
On the way, they came across people who greeted them.
They, after a rather long stroll, finally arrived at Marineford high stronghold to be met with a magnificent sunset whose lights were reflecting on the sea.
The entire stroll was taken in complete silence with none making a sound.
They remained silent for a long time before Garp finally broke the silence.
"...You have grown up well boy, you're ready fifteen years old now and you will be a man soon…" He had a solemn expression as he spoke while Edam nodded.
"Hn… what is up with you grandpa, you're not feeling well?" Edam asked with concern in his tone.
Garp in response merely shook his head and replied. "No, I'm perfectly fine, anyway, after all those years I believe that you're already in age to know that…"
"Yes?"
"You're not my grandson…"
"...What?"
"Or at least, you're not my biological grandson…"
"..." This revelation was a huge blow to Edam…
...
His whole life, he believed that he was his true grandson sharing his flesh and blood with him… And with Zaz situation he just thought that it was all the same for himself and that his father just had a relationship with someone from the mink tribe or something.
However, the one million berry question flashed through his bead.
"...Wait grandpa, who are my parents then…?"
Garp gazed at the sea before glaring at Edam and said. "Well, I don't know… I found you a long long time ago…"
"...?"
"That is to say… thirty years ago or so…"
"...What...?" Now, Edam's head started to get hurt all of a sudden. "Wait wait wait...what?"
"Shut up and let me speak…"
And he did as he was told to.
"Long, long ago, while I was roaming the sea to hunt down Gold Roger, My crew and I came to rest on a certain island. Night fell and then the sky was torn open and a woman holding what seemed to be a metal egg floated down. However, she was grievously wounded and the time it took to ask her what happened she had already passed away as she gave me the metal egg and told me that a baby would come out of it."
"... So she was my mother…?"
"Perhaps… We didn't get to bury her too as her body transformed into multiple dots of lights…"
"I then wait for the said baby to come out, but after days and months, nothing happened at all, I thought that it was like a dead egg, so I entrusted it to Zephyr… time passed with nothing happening till one day, some pirates who had wanted to take revenge on Zephyr surged out to kill your Rubie and Zaphyr, however it was then that the metal egg knocked out every bandit, avoiding a nightmarish night…"
"And then after ten years of complete silence, the metal egg began to flicker with a green light… Zephyr called me and then we watched as a baby came of that said metal egg… The baby had the characteristics of a monkey as well as two nasty scars on his left ċhėst and his forehead." Garp said as he gazes at the ocean while remembering the past.
Edam's eyes were already wide opened in surprise as he listened on.
Garp then turned his head toward him and said.
"That baby was you, Edam, what I want to tell you my boy is that… you're not from this world… You come from beyond this world…" He looked at the sky when he said this.
Edam didn't reply immediately and fell silent for a while before a single sound came out.
"Oh…"
'Hmm… was it too early…?' Garp thought to himself.
He was only fifteen, after all, telling him that he was not his blood-related grandson was already a huge blow and one thing but telling him that he wasn't a human was another blow and another thing altogether
"Umm, then…" Edam asked with his head hanging down.
"...?"
Edam lifted his head before scratching his head. "Then, what should I do now?"
"...Bwahahaha, well I don't know too, anyway just live your life as you feel, but maybe you should search for your biological parents..." Garp said before he added.
"Oh right, I nearly forgot again, but before that woman passed out she told me your true name, but as time passed by I forgot…"
"Oh, what is it?" Edam asked, truly curious about his true name chosen by his biological parents.
"Eden… Your true name is Eden… Heh, when I chose your current name it was based on an Edamame but when I tried to recall your true name I forgot what it was, that's maybe why I confused the two and the name Edam came to be…" Garp said with a foolish smile.
"…" Edam looked at him with a deadpan expression. 'So my name is a mistake…? Grandpa, you're really unreliable…'
"Eden and Edam huh, that's two opposite names then…" 'Edam' stands for a small and green seed while 'Eden' represents the infinite garden where all things come from, what an irony…
"So, I'm an alien?" A thought suddenly passed through his mind and he blurted out with a flabestered expression.
"... Pfff, bwahaha, exactly you're an alien!" Garp burst in laughter.
Edam did want to laugh with him, but he couldn't bring himself to for a reason… The situation at hands was most awkward right now… And only Garp would actually want to laugh it off.
"Bwahaha, don't be so nervous kid, I was lucky to find out some pieces of your background actually."
"Oh? What is it?"
"It comes from that old Rayleigh we met at Shabaody archipelago."
"Oh, old Rayleigh and?"
"Bwahaha, you my little boy originate from a race of murderous warriors who invade various planets… Bwahaha…"
"..." Edam was totally speechless at both these words and his grandpa's demeanor in face of this.
"Does that mean that I was sent here to conquer this planet?" He asked in disbelief.
Garp only laughed and shrugged his shoulders. "If I recall well, this race is known as the Saiyan race…"
Garp only looked at his grandson with a grin on his face.
"Whatever, that's it, let's go back home now…"
"Uh, yeah…"
…
Night fell, and the two casually returned home with Stella having made dinner already.
