Chapter 539 - Revenge 540: Responsibility

"You are my eldest son, you should know better, yet you have no idea what the real problem is, do you?" 

He has always been proud of his son, but sometimes, it upsets him that his son overlooked these problems. 'It seems like I have failed to teach you how to be cautious, Ziegrel.' He inwardly said.

"Real problem? Father, I know that the Coleman family is rising in power as the days passes by, but they can never compare to us. Besides, that useless woman is over there. She may have achieved a lot of things these past years, but she will eventually fail like she always does." The story behind Ziegrel and Mary is not any ordinary siblings who fell apart.

From the beginning, they were both separated. Ziegrel was treated like a precious prince, while Mary, on the other hand, is treated lower than a slave. Ziegrel saw how Mary was treated. He did not feel any remorse towards her. In fact, he treated her the same way as to how others are towards Mary.

In his eyes, Mary will be the forever failure of the Ricci family.

"Walter, your son is right. You are only wasting your time worrying about those people." The matriarch, Ziegrel's mother, suddenly appeared. She is the main reason why Mary is known as the black sheep of the family. As for why she made Mary have that title, no one knows even Mary does not have any idea why.

Walter glances at his wife, and he sighed. His son is not the only one. His wife, too, is also like that. His wife is supposed to be on the same page as he is. Though he cannot blame her for having that kind of thinking. After all, they have been living like they have everything and that no one will be able to take their crown away for so many years.

Walter wonders when will his son and wife realize that the Coleman family is a threat to them. Right now, they do not have enough power to go against them, but they are steadily growing in power. There will be a day that the Coleman family will be on the same level as them.

'It would have been better if I eliminate those pests, but there are risks that I don't want to ignite.' He inwardly said. Because of the risks that he is thinking, Walter, is left with no choice but to let the Coleman family do whatever they want.

"It would have been nice if you are not acting like your son, Wife," Walter said. In his marriage with her, there was no love. The only connection between them is that they both are ambitious and that power is everything to them. Even though there is no love between them, it did not stop them from getting along.

"How can I not act like this when I'm right? You're worrying too much, Husband. Are you regretting letting that black sheep go? Isn't it a bit too late on that concept?" Years ago, it was her initiated to make Marry suffer. Her husband did not care at all. Walter only watched on the sidelines, and whenever he sees Mary suffering, he only looks at her with scorn plastered on his face.

"Regretting? I don't. I believe that letting her go is the best thing we did back then." Walter said nonchalantly. He believed that if Mary continues living under the Ricci family's roof, Mary will only bring shame to their prestigious name. Though, the only regret that he has is letting Mary live.

'I should have killed her at that time.'

"I've been wondering all this time, Father..." Ziegrel suddenly spoke. "Why are we even bothering the Colemans in the first place anyway? Didn't we made a deal with them years ago that we don't get in the way of each other's path?"

The Ricci family might not seem like it, but they always honor every deal that they make. When Ziegrel found out that his father wants to break the agreement, he immediately thought that his father has a reason for it.

He has been waiting for his father to explain it to him, but there is still no word coming from his father. Now that they are talking about Mary's family, it would not be hard to be open up such a topic that he has been curious about.

"Because your mother and I decided to have the twins lead our family to a brighter and successful future. After getting them here, I will forge the twins to only care about the Ricci family and nothing else." Ziegrel flinched when he heard that response.

A fit of sudden anger rose inside him. "Lead our family? What kind of a joke is this, father?"

"A joke? I'm afraid that your father is not joking, son." Ziegrel's mother spoke in a severe tone.

"Have you forgotten about my son? As far as I know, my son has every right to lead this family!" Even at his parent's age, they still have all the power to control the whole Ricci family's territory and other things. Ziegrel never has gotten the chance to have that kind of power because he believed that one of his children is the right one for that power, and his parents are waiting for it.

However, to hear this kind of news is a shocking revelation to him. He didn't become greedy because he wanted his son to lead the Ricci family, so he made his son his top priority out of everything.

"As far as YOU know, but, Ziegrel, your son is not qualified. And honestly, it is quite a disappointment that he is not at the expectation that we want him to be." Walter flatly said. Ziegrel is the child that he and his wife are so proud of, and honestly, they want Ziegrel's child to be the one leading the family, but that child is not qualified. They can not see the bright and prosperous future of the Ricci family under that child's lead.

"What do you mean not qualified? My son did everything that he can to please you both." There are even times that he pushed his son just to please his mother and father. To think that all those efforts will be wasted only because his parents believe that woman's children will lead the family into prosperity.

"We were pleased, that is true. But we weren't pleased enough." Walter and his wife will not deny the fact that they saw how hard their grandson is working just to please them, but like what Walter just said, they were not pleased enough.

"That's ridiculous! What is it those two brats have that my son doesn't have?" One biggest flaw that Ziegrel sees in Anna and Aaron is that their mother is the woman he sees lower than him. To him, anyone who is related to Mary is nothing but an insect. That is why it is hard for him to accept this kind of decision his parents made.

"The twins are responsible enough to know their mistakes and tries to fix their mistakes on their own. As for your son, whenever he makes a mistake, he always runs to you to fix it. From our point of view, he is not competent enough if he is like that." Walter said in an annoyed tone. Every time he hears that his grandson made another mistake and lets Ziegrel fix that mistake, he gets annoyed.

Walter and his wife admit that they have their own flaws and that they make mistakes from time to time. Unlike their grandson, their error is their responsibility.

"For that reason, you're gonna exclude my son? Father, that is not fair! My son can fix that!" If all they want is for his son to take responsibility for all of his actions, Ziegrel truly believes that his son will be able to do that.

Walter and his wife did not say a word back. Watching their grandson from he was still a newborn until now, they know too well that their grandson will never learn to take responsibility. They were even have given up on the thought that he will change.

'I will make sure that my son will be the next heir of this family! That woman's children can never be allowed to enter this family!' Ziegrel inwardly said.

"Who on earth is that guy?" Kyle glared towards the unknown guy who is talking to Anna. The distance between that guy and his girlfriend is way too close, and he does not like it.

Leon, who happened to be the guy Kyle asked that question to, smirked inwardly, and his mind is filled with mischievous thoughts. "From what I heard, his name is Keith, and I also heard from Aaron that Keith likes Anna. I'm not sure if that is true or not. I think that's only Aaron's hunch. Don't assume yet, Kyle."
