"She is sleeping." A deep voice was heard from behind her.

Reeya exhaled her pent up breath when she saw the weak movements of Amma's chest. She turned to see her Aunt leaning on the door.

"What happened?"

"Liver failure." Aunt sighed. Her mind was clear and emotions stable.

This was a big blow. She felt fear and horror for the first time in life. Even when she entered fire at risk of her life she never held such panic. She went soft and fell on the carpet.

"Why?" a weak mutter escaped her lips.

Why is Amma so weak?

Why is she not in the hospital?

Why is she suffering?

Why did you say 'last time'?

Why God?

The words didn't dare to come out.

'Never complain' that was what Amma said always. Though she didn't ever carry complains. One thing Amma taught her was that there is no use crying.'It causes more damage. The person who you want to complain to may or may not hear it but your mind hears it clear. It interprets them as trouble and makes you anxious.'

'What's the use of complaining?' Amma's word echoed in her heart.

She saw her Aunt. The woman in her forties looked tired.

When she lost her father. His brother, her uncle took her in. Aunt was against it. It wasn't that Reeya didn't understand her. Their family was poor to feed an extra mouth plus Uncle promised her to pay all the way to college.

Aunt wasn't really bad to her. Though she had a sharp tongue and sometimes would ignore her, there wasn't a day she was starved or abused. She was a mother in the end. Sometimes, circumstances make a mother selfish for her kids. Though their living conditions were not good Reeya lived with them. They gave her a house she was grateful for it.

Reeya called for an ambulance.

"Girl, We don't have money." She said avoiding her eyesight. Her Aunt's word told her that she would have to take the whole responsibility of Amma's treatment.

"Doctor said she needs surgery. Amma is old,With her age there came many risks."

"No." she glared at her Aunt. How could Uncle do this?

She wasn't welcomed. But why were they treating Grandma bad?

"What are you staring at me for. Lower your eyes. She is my mom. It's me who has been looking after her all these years. From last few months, she had been bedridden, it's me who is taking care of her," She bowed her head and muttered, "but I'm tired now"
