Chapter 40: Steven Return

Drunk, I felt dizzy and sleepy. Somehow, I thought it was the typical style of Jonathan to use the word 'instruct', not the manager. I broke into the room where Jonathan was with a bottle of wine and two glasses in my hands, I didn't even knock.

There were not many well-dressed people not the style of his guys. The room suddenly became quiet, and everyone was staring at me, except for Jonathan, who lowered his head to pour some wine. I had a look at the men in the room, who were in their forties or fifties. There was one exception. He looked very young, probably in his twenties, a gentleman with dark skin, who was quite handsome.

I walked up to him and winked at him with a sweet, slightly intoxicating smile. Perhaps it was the effect of unsuitable high heels or alcohol, I fell over. That man came forward to hold me.

"Thank you!" I said. Seeing his appearance, he had glowing skin, clear eyes, a straight nose, and pale pink, thin lips. In other words, he was a typical Prince Charming!

He was courteous, loosening his hands around my waist politely. "Miss, you may have come to the wrong room," he said.

"No," I said and turned to Jonathan behind him. I still could not meet his eyes, but only saw the wine in his glass wave violently. I could feel the fluctuation in his emotions, so I was in a very good mood, and said in a soft voice, "I am so bored of drinking alone! Do you want to have a drink with me?"

"I'm sorry, I have matters to deal with," he said. Before he finished his words, I sat next to him and said, "It doesn't matter, I have time. I'll wait for you!"

An old man looked me up and down with indecent eyes, especially at my slender legs, and said to Jonathan with a smile, "It is lucky for you that such a charming beauty would throw herself into your arms."

"She may be a little drunk!" the handsome guy said, sitting down calmly by my side. He didn't drive me away, he just ignored me. They continued talking about a business that I didn't understand.

No one paid any attention to me. I rubbed my aching head, pouring the wine myself, and drank it.

The alcohol surged in my stomach, burning like fire in my throat. Covering my mouth, I coughed violently. The handsome man, who was talking with others, suddenly handed me a tissue and then continued his conversation.

What I wanted was a glass of water. I got a glimpse of the table, where there were all kinds of wine. "Get a glass of ice water!" It was Jonathan's voice. Then the bodyguard behind him hurried out. The ice water was brought quickly, and I drank it to control the cough.

When looking up at the girl sitting next to him, my heart broke again. "A new substitute? Congratulations!" I tried to squeeze a smile on my face even though my head was a little dizzy and my voice was a little vague. The girl looked at Jonathan a little aggrieved as if she expected an explanation.

But Jonathan did not even look at her, and coldly said, "You are drunk! I'll let someone send you back!"

"I'm not drunk. I'm not going back!" I held the arm of the handsome man and leaned against his shoulder and said, "I will accompany him tonight."

"Crash!" hearing a clear and crisp sound, the glass in Jonathan's hand broke, the splinters stuck in his palm, the red wine dripping with blood on the table. The girl next to him wiped the blood from his hands and gave me a bad look.

The handsome guy pulled his arm away, and I said, "Hey! Handsome boy!" I hugged him again and winked at him with a smile, "What should I call you?" I asked.

"My name is Steven Luo!" he replied.

"Oh... what a nice name!" I said.

As I was about to pick up the glass, suddenly my intoxicated brain caught his words. "What did you say? Your name is Steven Luo?" I asked surprised.

"Steven! Is he, Steven?" I said and looked at Jonathan, trying to confirm it from his expression. He looked at me and clenched his fist again, where the fragment of the glass remained.

"Send this lady back home now!" he ordered.

When the bodyguard dragged me by my arms from the sofa, I grabbed Steven's sleeve, refusing to loosen it and cried, "Steven, I am the little girl from the orphanage. Do you remember me?"

"Desiree!" Finally, Steven realized and grabbed my other arm. "Are you Desiree?" he asked. All the people in the room stared us, blankly. I guess they must have thought that the lonely woman reencountered her long, lost lover.

I nodded. Steven immediately took the bodyguard's wrist and said, "Let her go!" The bodyguard glanced at Jonathan and released his hands and retreated.

"Desiree?" Steven touched my damp hair and my tearful face. His eyes were filled with self-blame, no wonder. "I'm sorry. I'm too late. You must have suffered a lot," he said.

I hugged him, "Steven, I thought you wouldn't come back, and that I wouldn't see you again in this life!

"It's my fault!" he said and hugged me tightly, his voice filled with guilt, "Now I am back, and I will protect you from any attack."

Hearing such words, I couldn't help releasing the pain and suffering that I had accumulated over eight years. I burst into tears on his warm chest, "Eventually, you came back," I cried. Eight years have passed, he had not changed, he was as gentle as before, protecting me with all his heart and offering me a warm shoulder to cry on when I was heart-broken.

He took my face in his hands, and drying the tears on my face gently, he said, "How could you be here? I heard that you are living a good life," he said. I didn't know how to explain it.

Suddenly, Jonathan pulled me away from Steven's arms. "Have you finished with your greeting and affectionate actions? Come back home with me. You must go to school tomorrow," he said.

"Let me go!" I hit and pushed him, but he held my arms tightly

"It is none of your business!" I shouted.

He gritted his teeth, "I don't want people to think that I would throw my daughter into a nightclub. Come home with me, don't make a fool of yourself," he said. After listening to his words, Steven sighed with relief and smiled at me tenderly, then said, "It's late. Go home and I will meet you tomorrow."

"Then I'll wait for you," I told him.
