Chapter 4: The Preparation

Zack Adamos' POV

I was looking around the cave as it was as I envisioned them to be. It has everything that I might need to survive when I was here. Who said I cannot survive when I was about to…

Nope, I will not think about it. I don't want to think about it.

I sighed as I was looking at the entrance. It was secluded enough that people will not be happy to come and visit here.

I went outside before I saw the moon that was shining in the sky. I sighed before I was basking in the moonlight as I was listening to the sound of the woods. Then, I wanted to have some company.

But not Sam.

I was wondering maybe Damien was telling mate legend, I might learn something with the legend or about how to handle the rejection that was on one side only. So, I made my way to the Riganato for Damien's usual set.

Once I was there, I walked inside the restaurant and I said that I wanted to be in the event. Of course, to support my friend, I paid for my admission, and thankfully it was not that expensive. Damien was more of a laid back for his payment.

"I cannot wait to hear for the legend of the Lycanthrope of this island. I heard it was amazing," one of the chicks were talking with each other. It's not like they were sitting next to me but rather I was using my super hearing on them.

I'm not going to lie, it was awesome.

The crowd clapped when Damien made his appearance and he greeted them like he was used to this kind of set. I know he was because he was a Delta. Even though he was the 4th strongest, he did not have any responsibility for the pack.

Not that it counts anyway.

I was hearing them talk about the Moon Goddess and the legend of the Lycanthrope. It was fascinating alright but to these humans, they were the only legend. Not something that was to believe in. Except when you were a child, then I think they might believe in it. A woman raised her hand as Damien regarded her.

"Yeah?" He asked.

"Was it true that if you got rejected by your mate, you will go crazy because of the lust and all that? Your wolf would eventually go crazy?" she asked as Damien chuckled.

"Not necessarily. If the rejected one wants to make it official, they need to come to an agreement that they wanted to be with someone else. Or maybe they don't have a solid reason to do it," Damien said as I was listening to him.

"But, if the rejected ones succeed in making the ones that rejected them to regret it, they have another chance to make it right. Maybe it was a mistake at first but then they realize they will go insane without their mate." Damien said as he turned to look at me in the dark. I think he knew that I was there all along.

"And with that in mind, I think we all agree that we only mate ones," he said before I was moving out of the restaurant and Damien was thanking his audience for coming out to support him.

I was waiting by the side of the building as Damien was getting out by the back door. I was leaning against the wall as I was looking at the moonless sky tonight. I think I preferred the moon over anything right now.

"So, you come here to mingle, Beta?"

"Don't call me that. You know I was not the real one," I said as I was looking at the sky. He chuckled.

"But you have been holding those positions for 5 years now. I'm sure you can accept the title already?" Damien asked before I turned sharply at him.

Damien was making some dramatic shock face. "Who, me? I would never," he said as he was waving his hand dismissively. I grunted.

"But I think someone else was. So, who was it?"

"What?" I asked Damien as he smirked at me before he was shoving his hands into the pocket of his pants.

"Come on, don't be surprised if I knew what was going on in the pack. I'm a Delta, I do this kind of thing," he said as his grey eyes were shining under the moonless sky.

"I don't know what you're talking about,'' I said as I was crossing my hands over my chest. I cannot let Damien know what was going on or he might be using that in his new storytelling to the youth again.

"You know I do," he said as I rolled my eyes at him. He leaned against the wall as he was staring at the sky as well.

"So, what do you think of my set tonight? Anything and I mean, anything, that interests you at all?" He asked as I was pretending to think for a moment before I answered him.

"Mmm, not quite but I was surprised to know that you have some knowledge about that department. Someone's changed the perspective of you on true mates already?" I asked as he shrugged.

"Well, I'm 25 years old and I think it was due time to say that I have no luck to find my true mate," he said as I was chuckling at him. Even though I was 4 years younger than Damien, I know he would not trust his words just now.

In some way, I know his mate was out there, somewhere.

I was sighing before I was leaning against the wall and I was smiling. I don't know why being in the presence of the Delta was calming but it was nice and I loved it. Maybe because we both don't have much importance in the pack that I can relate to him.

"So, who will you bring to the Folk Festival?" I asked him as he shrugged.

"I don't know. I have some client that will be coming to the island, one month from now. I think I might show her around and maybe don't have time to go to that old Festival," he replied as I laughed.

"You can't be serious,"

"Oh, but I am,"

I shook my head as I was turning to look at Damien. He was something. I cannot think of Arthur or anyone that would be so laid back like him. But Damien pulled it off.

"I think I might go," I said as I have been avoiding the last few years to this kind of event. Damien arched his eyebrow at me as I was smiling.

"Might I ask what change your mind?'' He said as I shrugged.

"I don't know, your story about mate was pretty convincing," I said as I was smiling like an idiot I was. Damien chuckled.

"Ah hah! Now I see what was making you're so different from the other time these past years. You have found her right?" He asked me as I was turning sharply to him.

Too sharply.

"What…? Pfft, I wish…come on, I don't have time to do that," I said before I was turning to get away from him. Damien fucking laughed at me before I was walking toward the woods to get away from him.

"Let's go home together, Beta. I might be attacked in the woods," Damien said as he trailed after me before we were in the woods.
