Chapter 90:New World?

I zip up the bag and strap it back on my back as I look around again. I was clearly not going to be able to get back this way so I need to find another way plus... I look up to the sun with a frown. The heat was too much for me to stay here for too long. I need to look for shelter.

I decide on a direction and begin walking as I feel sweat dripping down my back. "This should be fun..." I say as I pick up my pace.

I wipe the sweat off my forehead for the tenth time and sigh. I have no idea where I am or where I'm going but I know I have to keep going. I look around and notice the dead trees becoming denser. Maybe this is a good thing? Maybe there will be shade. I have only been walking for an hour or so but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a sunburn...

As I make my way further and further into the dead woods I feel like I'm being watched. I come to a stop and look behind me but I don't see anything... I look around for a minute or two before I start walking again.

If that pit was a portal... and the things that came out of it were the monsters that were currently wreaking havoc then was this their world? I look around at everything as a cold shiver runs down my spine. Here's to hoping I'm wrong and if I'm not, here's to hoping that all the creatures are now in my world and are no longer here...

I pick up my pace and keep my senses sharp. I lost my guns and my knife in the fight before so all I had was one small blade and my necklace. I really hope Chip's okay... I sigh and shake my head. I need to pay attention. I keep walking until I come across a large opening and an even larger building.

*Cough cough cough* The air is horrible here... I stop by the dead tree line and look around the clearing. I didn't see anything... I bit my lip as I look at the building. It was old but I can tell it was nice and grand in its time.

I feel a wave of exhaustion wash over me as sweat continues to pour down my back. Screw it... it'll get me out of this sun. I cautiously walk across the clearing and come to a stop in front of the large doors. I look around and listen but I don't see or hear anything.

*Cough cough* I knock on the large doors and wait. After a few moments I knock even harder but no one comes. I reach for the door nob and nearly cry in relief when it opens. I push the door open and look into the completely dark building.

The cool air coming from the dark building was a relief but I found myself hesitating. Wasn't it places like this that usually led to the death of people in horror movies?? The red sun was baking my back as I stand before the door so with one last deep breath I walk into the dark building.

Why was it so dark? Even the light coming in through the open door seemed to be swallowed by the sheer darkness of the building. I turn to look outside when I hear something but I don't see anything. I felt like I was being followed since earlier... I walk over to the door and quickly shut it.

I find a large lock on the door so I slide it into place. My contacts immediately switch over to night view making it easier to make things out. I look around the large empty room and frown when I don't see lights of any kind. Not just lights but even the windows were missing...

I walk over to the center of the room and look around in wonder... even with the contacts, I couldn't see the ceiling... what in the world was this place. I begin walking around to see if I was the only one here but when I don't find anyone or any other rooms/doors I decide to go back to the center of the room.

I have no idea what this place was but I'm grateful to get out of the sun and heat. This place was somehow nice and cool allowing me to relax for a bit. I walk over to the side and slip my bag off as I lean against the wall and sit down in exhaustion.

Suddenly the wall I leaned against begins to glow a golden color causing me to jump away and look in awe as the walls of the entire building begins to light up with a language I've only ever seen in an old book and on the cursed people. "What in the...."
