Chapter 135 - Her Phone Call!

My phone was vibrating as there was an incoming call. The name Sumiko Sakamaki was showing on the screen, as the picture of my sister popped up.

I wasn't expecting my sister to call me so suddenly. I thought she was busy with her semesters or something.

I swiped the green button up and held the phone against my ear.

"Hey! What took you so long to pick up the call? Huh!?" A very static voice came from the other side, as she was yelling at me.

"I was in the toilet." I replied in a calm tone.

"Oh… my bad." She replied with a laugh. After a bit of silence as I didn't have anything to say, she continued, "Anyways, how is everything?"

"Eh?"

"You know… living all alone…" To my confused tone, she clarified.

She still worries about that thing, and it pisses me off. Some things should be left in the past. There is no point in stirring them up every now and then. But it's out of her goodwill, so I can't say much to her, "You know that and are still asking about it?"

In a regretful tone she apologized, "Sorry, I know you've been used to being alone ever since we were kids."

Since things were getting too deviated, I abruptly changed the topic, "Anyways… Why did you call suddenly?"

"Ahh… I just wanted to talk? Can I not call you? Huh?" She asked in a probing tone.

"Nah… I didn't mean that." I chuckled.

"So, how was your past semester exams?"

"Aah… not so good…" I replied vaguely.

"Why? What happened?" I could tell the concern in her voice, also I could tell that a round of lecture was waiting for me.

"Oh don't worry… I passed all the subjects…" I specified but it seems like it didn't satisfy her as she said in a disapproving tone, "You know that just passing the subjects isn't good."

"Ooof… don't be like that… you know…"

"Yeah… what? Again 85 in all subjects?" She asked in a sharp tone and I couldn't dare joking about it as I replied, "Absolutely."

"When are you going to take things seriously, Saishi?" I could hear her sigh from the other side.

"I'm serious about everything… it's just that I'm average."

"You also know that it isn't true." She instantly said, denying my claim.

"What?"

A bit of silence, followed by a hesitant voice, "Are you still mad at them?"

"Mad? About what?"

She let out a deep breath, as I she mentally prepared herself to say this, "See… I know that, what they…"

But I was in no mood to recall the events of the past and I left behind, so I interrupted her "Ah… I don't need your pity Nee-chan."

"Uh… sorry… anyways…" She apologized again, as she also didn't like talking about this sensitive topic because she knows it pisses me off.

To lighten up the mood, I could hear her tone change, as she blabbled on, "Did you get any lover? You're in your second year right?"

"Yeah…" I answered the latter part of the question but I know she took it completely out of context.

"Ooof, you're growing up so fast!"

"And no, I don't have any girlfriend!" I specified myself as I could hear her laughter. In all honesty I was a bit glad that she called me, because I was missing her.

"Ara, don't be so restless… you'll get one sooner or later."

"I don't want one."

"Hah! That's what everyone says." She said sarcastically.

"Oh god… Nee chan!"

"Oh I forgot to tell you the main thing I called you for!"

"You sound rather uplifted?" I commented on her delighted voice. Well she was always this cheerful kind of person so it was no big deal.

"Yeah… your sports festival is tomorrow right?"

"Day after tomorrow." I replied without thinking much of it.

"Wait… how do you know?"

"I didn't, you just tell me right now." I could hear her smirk, as she bursted into laughter.

"Aghhh!"

"Anyways… still the dumb little brother you're huh, Saishi?" I teased me, to which I had no response.

But slowly it started making sense as to why she asked for my sports festival's date. I hoped it's not what I thought about at that time. "Oh god… don't tell me…"

"I'm coming to visit you." But to my expectations, she replied with that. And I knew that I was fucked beyond point.

"Hehe!"

"Don't hehe me!" I snapped at her.

"What?"

"Why are you coming here?" I asked her in my agitation which was a really uncommon sight for me.

"I just wanted to meet my lil bro." She chuckled.

"On sports day? Let me tell you… I didn't participate in anything as usual!" I said politely to make her contemplate her decision again as I thought that she might be coming to watch me do some event.

"Well you don't usually, so it's not a surprise." She replied and well that didn't turn out good for me.

"Nee chan!"

"Is there any problem? Saishi?" She asked me with a hint of concern in her voice.

"No… I mean… you visit me during the occasions right?"

"Oh… I got vacation since my semester ended so I thought to check up on you."

"Can't you come any other time?"

"Saishi…" She said and took a small pause. With a low tone, she asked, "Do you… like don't wanna meet me?"

"Oh… no no… I didn't mean it that way."  Assuming that I might've actually upset her, I instantly apologized.

"It's okay… I understand…" She continued with her hesitant voice.

Ever since we're kids, she has always taken care of me more than my parents. Ever since I was small, I was left to do everything on my own since both my parents were working and my sister had her school.

She was also a kid at that time so no one could expect her to act like an adult but she had a lot of responsibilities too. Still she tried to take care of me.

Even though when I was young, I used to hate her but with time, I realised how things were at home, and I grew closer to her. So I didn't like to see her sad, may the reason be me or someone else.

"Nee-chan… I don't have any problem."

"Alrighty then! See you Thursday!" Her tone instantly changed and she chuckled. I hate when she does that.

"Oh yeah text me the details… like time and all!"

"Can't wait to meet you, Love you!"

"Love you too Nee chan. Take care!"

"Yeah.. you too… good night!"

"Hmmm." With that, I pressed the red button and disconnected the call. The silence of the room seemed more overwhelming than ever as it was growing on me.

I'm in a whole lot of trouble.
