Wayne glanced at the woman who had scoffed upon hearing his words.
"What does Mrs. Huo mean by those words?" He inquired as his spidey senses were tingling rapidly.
'Why does it seem like these women were targeting Lina before I came over?' He guessed what must have happened before he had arrived at the party.
If what he was imagining was true then these people had hell to pay very soon.
Valerie and Talia were silently watching as what they had planned for the past week were coming undone thanks to these two people who were defending Lina.
Though all Talia cared about was her plan which was going awry, Valerie was seething in anger when she noticed how Mrs. Huo was standing up for that Yang woman.
'Why is she so trusting about Lina's character? All the other women had believed Jeanette's words but her!' She narrowed her eyes when she realized this aspect of deviation from their plans.
The Zheng sisters had planned to make sure that their future mothers-in-law, Moira Huo and Renee Ming would hear these words denouncing Lina and steer clear of this woman.
All they wished was that these powerful women would turn their wrath upon Lina after hearing about her 'real colors' yet nothing of that sort had happened.
Renee Ming had failed to appear and Moira Huo was leading the brigade in charge of standing up for Lina.
While the sisters were wallowing in the seemingly possible failure of their plans, Wayne was waiting for Mrs. Huo's response.
Moira glanced at Mandy and Jeanette then looked at Wayne.
"Why did you come here?" She shot this question without any hesitation.
Wayne choked when he was asked this embarrassing question.
'I did not come here to crash the party out of my own free will! I was pestered until I agreed to come here!' He defended himself yet he could not say those words out loud.
"Miss Liang insisted that I come over to pick her up as she had trouble with her car." He disclosed the reason that Jeanette had given him.
She had been asking him to come along for quite a few days yet when she noticed his continual refusals she used this method to make sure that he would make an appearance here.
Now that he had arrived at the party, he was being treated as though he was a thief who had sneaked in.
This thought made him frown as he turned his eyes towards the person who had caused him this embarrassment.
"So, you did not come here because you wanted to?" Moira's doubt was clarified with a simple nod.
This made the women who had heard the story of how Wayne had declared that he would come to pick her up and take her on a date after this party were once again left stunned.
They could not believe that half the words that had spilled out of Jeanette's mouth today were nothing but lies and half-truths.
The oldest woman there, the one who had been actively reprimanding Lina's actions to defend Jeanette stayed silent as all of this was occurring.
"Since Miss Liang's car is alright as she had come here in it. Would you mind giving me a lift back home?" Moira requested while raising one brow at the young man.
'That does not sound like a request at all!' Wayne noticed the 'you dare to deny me?' look on the older lady's face which was the polar opposite of her words.
Jeanette panicked when she heard Moira's words and then turned her anxious eyes towards Wayne.
'I know that he will not accept this request!' She believed yet was once again bound for disappointment.
"Since Miss Liang does not need me here then why not?" He acquiesced to the orders of the matriarch of the Huo family.
Moira's friends who had come along with her in the car were left dumbfounded when they saw that they were being left here while she would soon sit in the car with that handsome young man.
Feeling their longing gazes, Wayne shot them his winning smile as he winked at them.
"Would these beautiful young women like to accompany us?" He offered which made the two women swoon and giggle at his actions.
Moira let out a soft chuckle when she heard the silent squeals coming from her best friends and shook her head.
"They have an appointment at Cecilia's in an hour. Wouldn't want them to miss it~" She muttered while glancing at them from over her shoulder.
This revelation made the many women present there turn green upon hearing that these friends of Mrs. Huo would get a free trip to one of the best salons in the city.
The best friends soon understood that Moira desired to be alone with the young man and had decided to drop their plan of joining them.
Moira smiled at her intelligent friends who got her hint and then turned towards the CEO of Luo Industries.
"Shall we?" She questioned and giggled when Wayne offered his hand as a well-groomed gentleman would.
Accepting the hand that was extended towards her, she smiled at him and soon the two strode away from the garden where the tea party was being held.
Jeanette was staring wide-eyed as she watched the man whom she had worked hard to bring here was now leaving but with another woman.
'Where did I go wrong?' She pondered over her actions but found no fault of her own.
She had mentioned the time for him to arrive and she was not willing to take the blame for his early arrival.
'If he had come when I had asked him to then none of this would have happened and I could have gone on that date that I had worked so hard to plan!' She cursed her luck because nothing was going according to her wishes.
As the women watched Wayne Luo and Moira Huo leave hand in hand, they turned around and all eyes were focused on the woman who was the supposed girlfriend.
Jeanette felt the heated gazes and did not know what to do to save herself from the embarrassing situation that would soon ensue.
Mandy was overjoyed that neither had Wayne accepted Jeanette as his girlfriend nor had he treated her coldly after noticing her presence at the party.
However, now was not the time to worry about this as her friend was in trouble.
"Jeanie, maybe big brother does not want the relationship to be made public so soon?" She muttered in an audible voice which gave her friend a way out of her present troubles.
Though most of the women were now aware of what must have truly happened, they did not speak up to further intensify the young woman's embarrassment.
"I shall take my leave as well. I have seen enough for today." The oldest woman present, who was the matriarch of one of the second tier families spoke up.
With the help of the woman next to her, she raised her body up from the seat and then nodded at Eve Zheng before leaving the garden.
Watching her biggest support leaving without saying a word to her, Jeanette bit her lip in frustration.
Soon, finding one excuse or the other, the women began to leave, knowing full well that they would all assemble in their friends' houses to gossip about what had just taken place.
"We have an appointment to keep." Moira's best friends chuckled before striding away with their chins held out.
In a few minutes, the crowded garden had emptied out and the only ones remaining were a small group of women who were with Eve Zheng and the MCs of today's show.
Eve had noticed the glances and that Valerie had been so blatantly throwing towards Mandy and Jeanette.
'So this was why they wanted this party to be 'unforgettable'?' She sighed and then rose from her seat.
"The party has ended abruptly but that does not mean we have to stop having fun. So let us go to the spa, girls!" She declared with an enthusiastic cheer.
The women who had come with her had packed their bags to stay over for the weekend, thus they did not let this little incident dampen their plans of having fun.
Valerie blinked in disbelief at her mother who was walking away while not giving them a single glance.
Talia on the other hand, waited patiently until the entire garden was cleared up before she took a step forward.
She strode towards Jeanette which made the woman who had been sobbing in silence to slowly rise from her chair.
*Smack*
However, as her body was half-way in the action of getting up, she stumbled back onto the chair when she felt the forceful smack on her cheek.
Mandy could only stare wide-eyed as Talia had bestowed that ear numbingly loud slap to her best friend.
Valerie, too, was surprised to see this violent reaction from her elder sister.
'Jie never raises her hand in places where people can see her!' She recalled this trait of her elder sister who followed it religiously to maintain her prim and proper image in everybody's eyes.
This could only mean one thing… That she was so pissed at this moment that she did not care about who saw her actions.
When she came to this conclusion, Valerie took a step back as her strategic retreat in order to not get caught in the crossfires which might burn her brutally if she wasn't cautious.
"You just had to mess my plan up, didn't you!?" The vicious snarl that left Talia's lips made the two women to bow their heads.
