Chapter 279 - He Seems Curious

"And a good day to you as well, son!" Moira Huo scoffed while walking into the room.

'I enter the house… No 'How was your day, mother?', No 'Did you have lunch, Mother?' What's the use of having such an uncaring child!?' She lamented over her pitiful luck.

When Louis Huo had just reached home from his office when he noticed that an unknown car had entered their estate.

He immediately logged into the live CCTV footage and observed that the car had halted before their main entrance.

'Why is he here?' He wondered when he saw the face of the man who had stepped out of the car.

The next moment, he saw his mother alighting from the car and watched as she waited for the car to leave before she entered the room.

When she had entered the house, his curiosity of what had happened which caused her to make that phone call overtook him.

Now that he was given the live view of his mother's annoyed face, he sighed as he rose from his seat.

"You must be tired." He attempted his best to cajole her in his own way.

The son then walked up to his mother and guided her towards the couch.

"Here, have a seat." He gestured to the large and comfortable couch and pressed down on her shoulders.

After Moira took her seat, she watched her son move across the room and an amused smile took over her face when she observed his actions in silence.

Just like what a caring son would do, he fetched her a glass of cold water and handed it over to her.

Louis watched as she gulped the water down as though she had been thirsty for ages.

'That conversation took a toll on my throat!' She declared while chugging the water.

Her dry throat felt relieved after it was moistened with the water that her son had been so kind as to bring her.

"So, what was that call all about?" The obedient son repeated his words once again.

Moira glared at her son who did not take her stern eyes seriously as he extended his hand to take the empty glass away.

'He seems curious… Might I say, a little too curious?' A devious glint flashed through the mother's eyes.

Louis had caught the flash of mischief that had passed through her eyes and this made him roll his eyes.

'She is up to no good!' He surmised and his thoughts came true when Moira smirked at him.

"Why are you so bothered? Is it because this concerns Miss Lina?" She investigated while wiggling her brows at him.

This made the young man press his temples as his mother had gotten the entire situation wrong.

"I am concerned about Junior Yang but it is not what you think it is!" He explained in clear words to make her stop teasing him every time Lina was mentioned.

For quite a few days after the debutante ball, all Moira spoke about was Lina and Louis and how they would make a great pair.

She had gone to great lengths to bring Lina's name into their conversations so as to gain some extra information about her.

Though Louis did not spill anything major about the young heiress, he did speak about the time they spent together in college.

Thus, Moira knew about Lina's stellar academic record and the fact that Lina was not the horrible person that Mandy Rong and Jeanette Liang were making her out to be.

Louis stayed silent when he saw the plethora of emotions that were appearing and disappearing on his mother's face.

"Did something happen?" He whispered his question in order to not startle her.

Moira turned to her left where her son sat and gave him a brief nod.

Soon after the nod, she began narrating the entire episode once again.

'I have said the same story twice in the span of an hour.' She shook her head after she had completed her task.

This time she did not wait for her son but instead, she went ahead to fetch herself another glass of cold water.

Upon her return, she noticed that her son had been in the same position as what she had left him in.

"What is it?" She questioned while patting his shoulder to get his attention.

'This was clearly a scheme.' He announced in his heart after pondering over the incidents that he had heard just now.

Looking up, he shook his head and smiled at her while rising from his seat.

"I still have work to do, so please excuse me." He informed before he swiftly walked out of the room.

Moira watched the sturdy and straight back as he strode in the other direction and then shrugged before plopping on the couch.

Soon, the head maid of the Huo Mansion came over to look after the needs of her madam who had just returned to the house.

Back in his bedroom, Louis sat before the computer and rapidly typed on the keyboard which made loud clacks with each depression of the key.

In a couple of minutes, an encoded email was sent out of his computer to a location that was untraceable.

Watching the blinking screen as it slowly faded away, he shut the computer down and went to his study to finish the work that he had used as an excuse to leave the hall.

"She has just come back and people are already after her…" He muttered as he walked along towards his next destination.

____

On the other side of the city, in the garden of the resort where the tea party had just ended.

Mandy and Jeanette were stunned that this seemingly elegant and graceful young lady had just raised her hand on someone else.

As the newcomer in the fights of the socialites, Mandy followed Richy's advice of staying low profile to not get caught in the crossfires.

Hence she lowered her head and thanked her lucky stars that she had not been bestowed that ear-numbingly loud slap to the face.

However, Jeanette did not think in the same way as she glared daggers at the older lady.

When she had been smacked so ruthlessly, her face had whiplashed to the side with such force that she felt something pull in her neck.

Now not only did her cheek which had been struck feel that itching burn but her neck was also throbbing when she turned to turn it.

"What was that for?" Jeanette screeched as she cupped her reddening cheek.

No one had ever dared to lay her finger on her until this day and the shock and embarrassment of being hit were making her gnash her teeth.

Talia was least bothered about the look of animosity and hostility that was being directed towards her.

"Did you not hear what I just said or did the slap affect your ears as well?" She sneered at the woman who remained seated on the chair.

As the entire garden had been vacated, the elder daughter of the Zheng family did not have to worry about anything or anyone interrupting her as she taught this stupid woman a much-needed lesson.
