Chapter 278 - I Was Wrong...

Wayne was both annoyed and impressed after what he had just heard from Moira.

"Mr. Huo did a great job!" He praised and received a nod from the happy mother.

Moira giggled as she was also proud of what her son had said which caused her defense to gain weight.

'So this was what these two women were planning? To ruin Nana's reputation in the eyes of these women?' He narrowed his eyes yet continued to focus his sights on the empty roads.

He was annoyed that they had almost succeeded in their plans if it were not for the efforts of Mrs. Huo and her son.

Impressed that Lina had gotten close to this man who always kept women at a distance from him.

"And after the phone call?" Wayne inquired as he was curious about what had taken place after this event.

Of course, Moira did not wish to leave the young man hanging and went back to narrating the entire incident.

___

After the phone call had ended there was absolute silence for a few seconds.

Yet if one had paid close attention then they would have heard the noise of Valerie's teeth-gnashing about each other.

Her crush calling someone else 'cute' in her presence was not something that she ever wished to witness.

'That bitch Lina is cute then what am I?' She snarled in her mind as she completely ignored the fact that Louis had called Lina's trait to be cute and not her.

"Now that I have the answer of the person that I trust… I do not need to hear about it from someone else." Moira's voice woke them up from their thoughts.

They had heard what Louis Huo had said with their own two ears and now their thoughts were more conflicted than what they had been before the phone call.

"I am going to trust my son as he wouldn't be willing to get close to someone who was a bad cookie." She sneered with confidence in her son who was a perfect judge of character.

However, what she did not know was that this very same statement would be shoved in her face in the near future in regards to the woman he would get close to.

But that was a story to be told on another day.

As she was unaware of this fact, she continued to raise her head high and looked them in the eye without backing down.

'And now… Her!' She narrowed her eyes when they fell on the cause of this problem.

The pleasant feelings and kind impression she had about Jeanette had crumbled to nothing with the events of today.

So she did not hide the animosity she felt as she glared at her.

"I do not know what truly happened between the two of you but I most certainly refuse to believe the words that you have said against Miss Lina." She declared and did not soften even when the tears were welling up in Jeanette's eyes.

Jeanette's tears caused the women to lean towards her as they knew that she was a good child.

The oldest woman who had always taken Jeanette's side decided that she had to stand up for her now since the women's opinions were being swayed after the phone call.

"Why do you trust that Yang girl so much? Just because your son seems to believe that she is a good child?" She interrogated in a stern and fierce tone.

Moira had not faced this tone from anyone in her family and she certainly was not going to bear this from an outsider much less.

"If I cannot trust the words of my own flesh and blood then why is everyone trusting the words of a stranger they just met today?" She retorted and her scornful words did not go unnoticed.

Of course, the woman who Moira was referring to was none other than Mandy Rong who had been gossiping nonstop about how much of a horrible person her cousin, Lina was when no one was watching.

The old lady who had spoken was now stunned silent as she did not know how to respond to this.

'The only reason why I trust her words is that Jeanie honey trusts her.' She noticed this and henceforth stayed silent.

The biggest support was silent which meant that Moira's words made sense and they had blindly believed Mandy until now.

Sensing this reversal, Jeanette and Mandy shared a glance which was filled with anxiety on what to do next.

Though they did not have much time as Moira had a lot left to say in this regard.

"Until I see with my very own eyes that Miss Lina is the type of horrible person that you two are making her out to be, I refuse to believe your words for a single second." She announced and then shook her head.

The look of disappointment in her eyes as she gazed at Jeanette made her feel apprehensive of what the older lady might say next.

"Miss Liang, I used to believe that you were sensible and kind but it seems that I was wrong to think so." She muttered in a soft voice.

Though her voice was low, the silent garden made it audible to every woman who was standing there and watching this entertaining show.

Jeanette tilted her head and stared at the woman who had just denounced her without any context whatsoever.

"Do you realize the power that your words hold? Your simple words have influenced so many women to shun Lina Yang without giving her a chance to prove herself." She explained why she had used the earlier words.

This sentence made the women ponder on their actions as they had certainly planned to forbid Lina from ever entering their social circles.

Jeanette bit her lips and shook her head in ardent refusal even when her hidden plans had been exposed by this matriarch.

However, none of these women knew that everything that had happened today had been fixed.

From their arrival at this party to Jeanette's revelations about Lina were all a part of the elaborate plan made by Talia Zheng.

They had just been pawns, acting out in Talia's grand scheme to destroy Lina but it had backfired due to a single inconsistency named Moira Huo.

Noticing the denials made by the now sobbing woman, Moira handed her a tissue that she picked up from the table near her and then stepped away.

"Your words have more power than what you think so be wise with them." She lectured her like a proper adult which made Jeanette to sob louder.

'Oh, we have reached!' Moira exclaimed when she noticed the familiar landscape.

She then turned towards the man who was driving the car into the gates that led to the main building of the Huo estate.

"This was when you appeared and then shed some more light on the truth of what had taken place between the two women." She sighed and rubbed her dry throat as she had spoken during the entire drive.

Soon the car came to a halt before the massive doors of the Huo Mansion.

The perfect gentleman Wayne rushed to the other side of the car and held the door open for her.

"Wanna come inside?" She offered yet the answer she received was a staunch shake of the head.

"Duty calls, my fair maiden!" He sighed as he got into the driver's seat.

Moira giggled when he winked at her and then waited for his car to leave before turning towards the large door.

"What was that call about?" A voice was heard the moment she stepped foot inside the house which made her roll her eyes.
