Chapter 296 - His Suspicions

A tall figure stood at the wall to ceiling windows and gazed outside as his hand held the phone to his ears.

Reuben gritted his teeth as he glanced outside the window and noticed that the Sun had already set yet there was no sign of Lina to be found in his house.

He had been used to seeing her face once work was done for the past couple of days and now he was annoyed that she had not yet returned home.

"Hello?" The voice from the phone which had been ringing until now made him snap out of his thoughts.

'He finally answered!' Reuben scowled and then turned away from the window that he had been standing at for quite a few minutes now.

"Where is Lina?" He interrogated and made sure to use her name instead of the endearment he usually called her with.

The person on the other side of the phone sneered and then rolled his eyes when he heard these words.

"Not a single hello, how are you? You jump straight to your question without any pleasantries. The man on the other side taunted Reuben for this disrespectful behavior of his.

The heir of the Ming family scowled at his friend who was testing his patience but he did not speak anything against him as he needed information from him at present.

"Hello, Mr. Wade Luo, how are you?" Reuben spat those words out through gritted teeth.

Wade could hear the sound of his teeth gnashing together and concluded that teasing him any further would be detrimental to his own future.

"Now can you tell me where Lina is? She hasn't come back home yet and I'm worried where she might have disappeared to!" Reuben's anxious questions made the other man choke.

With his brows raised in amusement, Wade Luo snickered for a few seconds before he could answer his friend.

On the other side of the phone, Reuben had narrowed his eyes dangerously upon hearing the sound of laughter echoing through the speaker of his phone.

"Home? What do you mean she has not come back home, huh?" Wade polled with a scoff at the end of his sentence.

Reuben was in no mood to play along with him and hence he stayed silent to let him complete what he was supposed to say.

"You do realize that Lina does not stay there and that she has a home of her own, right?" The skeptical question made Reuben freeze in his place.

'Just as I had thought!' Wade rolled his eyes as his guess had turned out to be right all along.

"Reuben, Lina went home. Her home at the Yang Manor." He informed his friend who was waiting for Lina's return when she had already reached home safe and sound.

"Oh…" Was all he heard before the call was disconnected from the other side.

Wade shook his head as he glanced at the blank screen of his phone and then tossed it aside as he had a lot of work that needed to be done before he could even think about going back home.

'Nana needs to assist me in doing some of the work! This is her company after all!' The doting elder brother was tired of doing all the work by his lonesome.

A few blocks away from Obsidia's building, on the topmost floor of the Restrindigo Building, a man plopped on the couch after the phone call.

Disheartened that he had not received a single call from his girlfriend about the change of plans made the man groan as he punched the throw pillow.

"A single text could have worked." He grumbled and then let out a loud sigh of dissatisfaction.

Here, Reuben had been waiting for Lina's arrival so that they might celebrate his recovery from the cold by going out for dinner at any one of his restaurants.

Sadly, that did not seem feasible at the moment as she had returned to her home.

He had called his driver when he had failed to reach Lina's phone and was informed that Benji had called to say that Lina's chauffeur would come over to pick her up.

Since it was the family chauffeur, Reuben did not mind it as they were people that Lina trusted more and hence had been waiting for her to come home.

'Home…' He muttered to himself and let out a bitter smile.

He had been waiting for Lina to come home, to his home but she had gone home already, to her home at Yang Manor.

"When will my home be her home as well?" He spoke to himself as there was no one else inside this large penthouse other than himself.

He had been missing his girlfriend who had only sent him a text in the afternoon to inform him that everything had worked out in her favor with the schemes that had been played against her.

"I need to let her know about the tea party incident as well." He reminded himself to keep her in the loop of what had happened in the other place while she was dealing with this incident.

The coincidence of the two events happening at the same time was making him suspicious and hence he decided that he needed to keep a close watch on the people who were involved in it.

"Talia Zheng, Jeanette Liang, that woman in Obsidia and the intruder in the Yang family." He recalled the people whom he had his suspicions on.

He was sure that Talia was involved in this mess as there was no way that she would have tolerated being blindsided by the entire mess that Jeanette and Mandy had co-created at her party.

Thinking of the huge party that she had organized, he found it weird that his mother had not attended it as she would never miss any party by the Zhengs who were her closest friends in the society.

"Maybe I should call and figure out why she wasn't invited." He decided and then picked his phone up once again.

Since he had completed his work in the afternoon after Wayne had left the penthouse and Lina had gone back to her own house, Reuben did not know what else to do with his time.

Therefore he thought of pestering his mother who would do the same to him all the time.

As the phone rang, he sat up and rested his head on the backrest of the couch with his eyes closed.

"Hello?" He muttered in his usual languid tone which was meant for everyone except for his Kitten.

Once the call was answered, he waited for his mother to begin lecturing him about how to live his life but that was not what he heard.

"Why have you called?" He heard the annoyed voice of his father as he was the one who had answered the phone.

Felix Ming glimpsed at the beautiful woman who had just fallen asleep after taking his medications and then glowered at the phone in his hand.

'She had just dozed off and the next moment she got a call. My poor wife cannot have a moment of rest!' He pitied the poor woman who was being disturbed by everyone today.
