Even if the joke that Benji had made was not too hurtful, just the thought of being betrayed by the one person he had gotten closer than anyone before made Reuben's mood to sour.
He placed loyalty above everything else and to hear something of that sort had caused him to feel indignant, to say the least.
'I would have knocked his teeth out if he was in front of me when he said that!' He gritted his teeth while imagining the sweet scene of Benji being knocked to the floor.
However, this would never be possible in real life as Reuben was no match for the man who was personally trained by Lina's older brother from a young age.
The training coupled with Benji's huge size made it impossible for Reuben to ever beat him in a fight.
They had been in a scuffle previously so he was well aware of how much he was lacking when compared to Lina's assistant but this did not stop him from dreaming.
"Are you doubting me?" Lina's question fell upon his ears, making him stop thinking of how great it would be to see Benji missing his front teeth.
This inquiry from the woman who was sitting opposite him now had brought him back to his senses.
'When did she move away from me?' He wondered as he had failed to notice when the little Kitten in his arms had scooted away and was now sitting opposite him.
Facing him with a serious look in her eyes, Lina waited to hear what his answer would be.
'He promised that he would never cheat as that was not what men in his family do… So does he think that I would do such a thing!?' She glared daggers with each passing second that he remained silent.
It was true that Reuben had lost his cool when he heard Benji mentioning that he was wearing a green hat, indicating that he had been cheated on.
But now as he sat before the Kitten who looked like a panther, he had realized his folly soon enough.
A memory from a near past emerged in his mind which made him recall the incident of their first kiss.
At that time, the two people who had just shared their first kiss were interrupted by the cheating couple.
Lina's strong and detesting reaction after she heard that the man had cheated on his wife with the woman standing next to him was what had come up in Reuben's mind.
'She hates cheaters.' This single statement had stuck to his mind.
To the person who despised cheaters to such an extent that she hyperventilated, his anger and hostility were not needed at all.
Lina hated people who betrayed someone else's trust and did something that could crush their spirit and take away their will to live.
Hence, how could she even think about taking part in something she detested and end up becoming the person she loathed with her entire being?
This was how Reuben had come to the conclusion that he had provoked her by his reckless words and needed to coax her in order to not mess up the night that they had decided to spend together.
"I trust you, Kitten. It just feels awful to even hear such a thing as a joke." He revealed the true intentions in his heart as he did not want to conceal how he felt from her.
The honest reply and the attempt to explain himself soothed the irritation in Lina's heart as she nodded at him.
"I will speak to Benji and ask him to not make such distasteful jokes again." She proposed, not wanting to continue something that was affecting her Ruby.
Her quick acceptance and efforts to change the cause of his displeasure gave him a sweet sense of comfort and security in his heart.
To see that she was accommodating him just as much as he was working hard to keep her happy made the Emperor of the Ming Enterprise smile at her.
Having sorted this issue with just a couple of sentences, Lina felt proud that they were growing stronger together as their couple.
Though they had yet to have their first massive fight, she had pegged this little interaction as their first-ever petty quarrel.
'I want to keep a track of all of our firsts.' She decided and then brought her phone out.
Reuben was wondering what she might be doing now when he saw they jump in his arms.
Lina took her seat on his lap and giggled when she saw this startled face.
He was quick to wrap his arms around her waist as she squirmed around to find a comfortable spot to rest on.
"Easy there, Kitten." His low growl which was heard right next to her ear made her freeze before she gave him a nod.
She bit her lip and sat still, not wanting a repeat of what had happened while they were kissing earlier.
Soon, she held her phone up and turned the camera on which displayed both of their faces on the screen.
'Holy fuck do we look good together!' She exclaimed as she tried to find the perfect pose for them to click their picture.
Reuben had understood what her intention was for climbing onto him but the reason behind it was still unknown to him.
"What is this for, Kitten?" He polled while looking at their faces on the screen.
The soft blush which sat upon her cheeks due to their close positions and the smooth lips which had been thoroughly kissed leaving them swollen was what he had noticed on the screen.
Lina had been focussing on how to click their first-ever picture together and just waved his question away.
The raised brows which were the result of her unhurried dismissal made the image on the screen seem as though the man had heard an amusing joke.
'The lightning isn't as good as the bathrooms but this will do.' She compromised and then nodded before snuggling close to the man on whom she had seated comfortably.
"Say cheese!" She yelled out and then stuck closer to him as she clicked the picture.
Reuben did not misbehave but was obedient as he sat still and looked into the camera just as the shutter sound was heard.
Having completed her work here, the ungrateful woman got off his lap and sat at the side, gazing at the picture they had just clicked.
Reuben's arm which had been wrapped around her waist was visible in the picture along with the slight smirk that sat on his face.
Lina on the other hand had a wide smile as she rested her head on his chest with her eyes aiming at the camera.
The man looked pleased with the pose while the woman looked coquettish as she sat in his lap, stuck close to each other.
'She hopped away once she got what she wanted from me! Such a mean Kitten!' He scoffed at the woman who was appraising the work of her hands.
'Hehe… I can send this to them!' She cheered as she forwarded the picture she had just taken to her two best friends who stayed on the other side of the globe.
Once she had done what she had planned to do, she turned around and finally remembered to flash the picture to the other person who was in it.
