'Now she remembers me!' Reuben rolled his eyes but did not forget to catch the glimpse of the picture they had just taken.
"Our first-ever picture together, Ruby! Shall I send you a copy?" She declared and then asked while waving her phone at him.
Lina's brows furrowed together when she saw him scoff and then shake his head in refusal.
"You don't want the first picture we've ever taken together?" She inquired as an incredulous look took root on her face.
She had been excited to have an image with both of them in it but it seemed that she was the only one as Reuben showed no interest in it.
When the man noticed her drooping shoulders and the pout on her lips, he shook his head as he was sure that his Kitten was thinking too much once again.
However, this time it was his fault for making her think so.
"This is not the first picture of the two of us." He explained so as to not create any misunderstanding between them.
Lina was surprised after listening to what he had to say and then tilted her head as she waited for him to explain further.
'As far as I know, we have never taken a picture before today.' She was sure of this fact which was making her skeptical of his words.
Noticing the unsure look on her face, Reuben did not speak but decided to show her the proof of his statement.
Picking up the phone which had been on his bedside table, he clicked the screen a few times and the phone was soon unlocked.
Lina tried to peek at his screen as he navigated through the apps and finally found the place where he had stored the picture of them.
Turning the phone around to give her a better look at the screen, he pointed at the picture displayed and smirked at her.
"The first-ever picture of us together is this, my dear Kitten." He indicated what he had meant by his earlier words.
Lina was stunned to see the picture of two people on the screen as their bodies stuck close with the man's hand holding her waist while the woman had her arm on his shoulder.
The scene of the two dancing at LY's auction was the picture that Reuben had shown Lina as proof of their first picture together.
The mesmerizing image made Lina smile as she looked up at him with a wicked smile on her face.
'Why am I getting an ominous feeling after looking at her expressions?' He wondered in trepidation and gulped when she leaned closer to him.
Lina's face was oozing her complacency as she stopped just inches away from his face.
"You, Mr. Ming…" She muttered as she tried her best to not smile at him.
Reuben held his breath as he awaited what she might say next.
"You liked me before we started dating! Pffft…." She asserted and leaned away, holding her stomach and laughing until her cheeks turned red and tears flowed from the corner of her eyes.
This abrupt change in her behavior made Reuben bite his lips as a grown-ass man pouting would look untoward according to him.
It was true that he liked Lina before they had started dating but having that pointed out made him feel wronged nonetheless.
Lina had finally stopped laughing when she noticed his silence and once again sat up straight as she wiped her tears away.
"Ahem…" She coughed to ease the silence that now pervaded the room.
'I might have laughed a little too much.' She realized and then touched the image of the two people dancing on the screen.
"Why do you have this?" She quizzed and looked him in the eyes.
'How should I tell her that I took this picture from my father, the day after the auction?' He wondered as this was embarrassing for him to admit.
At that time, they were only friends, and to have saved their picture would just seem creepy to her.
That and the fact that the source of this image was his father who disliked Lina and him being together made him further apprehensive about telling her the truth.
"Someone had taken this during the auction and posted it online. I felt that we looked great together so I saved it." He muttered with such confidence that Lina was left with no choice but to believe it.
'I thought he saved it because he had fallen for me from that moment.' She shook her head at the ridiculous thoughts in her mind which had now caused her to feel disappointed after learning the truth.
Being someone who prided himself on gauging people's reactions, Reuben had figured out that she was not pleased with his answer.
"We do look great together." She whispered while smiling at him to the best of her abilities.
Reuben would soon realize how fickle a woman's mood could be as he watched his Kitten getting off his bed and adjusting her clothes as she stood straight.
"I'll head to my room." She announced and turned away before receiving an answer from him.
Reuben was stunned and left speechless at the sudden reversal that had taken place in a few seconds.
'I should be mad at her for laughing at me but instead, she is mad at me?' He could not comprehend the complexities of a woman's brain.
The praise and applause that he had given to his father and grandfather who had managed to live so many years with their wives were what was truly going on in his mind.
However, what he now needed was to figure out how to appease the angry woman who was stepping away from his bed and towards the door.
'Why are you being so moody, Nana!?' The angry woman was chiding herself for being unreasonable but couldn't stop herself from acting out.
Every time that she hoped for him to do or say something romantic, he would do the opposite which would cause her to be pissed at him.
The last time it was the incident with Lina staying back at Benji's place though he had more than made up for it by shifting all of her belongings to his apartment.
This time, she had set herself up for disappointment as she was indeed fishing for something that wasn't there.
'I was hoping that he would say something like he had his sights on me from the beginning but I think that was all in my mind.' She sighed as she held the doorknob to twist it and open the door to make her timely exit.
However, the door would not open no matter how hard she tried to pull it.
"Going somewhere, Kitten?" A whisper along with the warm breath of air that fanned across her ear made her stop what she was doing.
Turning around, she came in contact with the man she did not know when he had arrived at her position.
The dark eyes which gazed down at her made her angle her head to look up and meet his gaze.
Reuben took a step closer which made her retreat until her back touched the door that she had been trying to open but now had forgotten all about it.
"Hmm?" He hummed an inquiry as he leaned closer to her.
