"So you think that Talia Zheng had a hand in this matter?" Lina questioned as she rubbed her chin.
Right now, they were walking around on the terrace that was exclusive to the owner of the Penthouse who was Reuben Ming.
Reuben had fed her well and decided that his Kitten needed a walk as he had used a lot of fattening ingredients in the pasta that he had prepared for her.
Lina agreed with his suggestion for a walk and had changed into more comfortable clothing from the wardrobe that he had readied for her in the other room assigned for her use.
To match Reuben's dark brown pajamas, Lina wore a black silk shirt with shorts.
She did not have pants to match his hence she opted for the shorts instead.
However, this choice of hers was making things difficult for Reuben who was trying his best to keep his eyes from wandering down below.
Having used up most of his restraint, he focused on walking alongside her and narrated what he had heard from Wayne in the afternoon.
Lina could not stop her chuckle when she heard the incident of how Jeanette had tried to announce that she and Wayne were dating.
'She tried to make Wayne accept that they are a couple when there were multiple pretty ladies around him? Rookie mistake!' She snickered at the dumb move that Jeanette had made.
If there was something that she could guarantee, that was the playboy hidden inside her brother.
Jeanette had tried to make him announce a relationship that was only in her head the entire time while standing in the presence of half of the pretty ladies in the city.
How could Wayne ever agree to that and risk the chance of not being able to date the women around him who were watching the show?
This miscalculation on her part gave Lina a good laugh as she wiped the tears that flowed out from the corner of her eyes.
Reuben shook his head as he watched her enjoying the misery of someone else and decided that he should let her have this moment before he moved further.
He had explained everything that he had been told by Wayne and there was one part that he had yet to speak about.
'I do not wish to speak any further.' He scoffed at the other half of the story that Wayne had told.
The only aspect of the story that he did not speak about was the part where his rival had come up to rescue her.
'I would have done a much better job if I had known that my Kitten was in trouble.' He scoffed at the pair of mother and son who had helped Lina out at the tea party.
Lina tilted her head when she saw the conflicted look on his face as they continued their walk.
'Why does it look like he ate a sour lemon?' She chuckled when this thought came to her mind.
The cold city breeze swept across her face, making her hair fly along in the direction of the breeze.
Reuben snapped out of his thoughts and helped her adjust her hair which was all over her face at this moment.
He ran his finger across her forehead to collect the hair which had been displaced due to the strong wind, tucking them behind her ear.
Lina shot him an appreciative smile as she leaned into the palm which was now caressing her cheek.
"Let's head inside." He muttered as he averted his eyes.
Though Lina could not understand why he was behaving in this weird manner, she decided to follow his lead.
Reuben held his Kitten's hand and guided her back to the lower floor which was his penthouse.
Along the way, he kept contemplating on what the right thing to do was and by the time they had arrived at the living room of his penthouse, he had come to a conclusion on what his next step would be.
'I'm going to tell her everything!' He declared as he made her sit on the couch.
Lina sat facing him with her feet crossed one over the other.
This posture of hers pulled her shorts higher than they already were, making the man gulp as he cleared his throat.
"So, Kitten… There is one more thing that I have not yet said." He whispered while finally making eye contact.
The ominous feeling that was emerging in her heart soon faded when he uttered his first sentence.
"Louis Huo and his mother helped you a lot today." He muttered in an aggrieved voice.
He hated the fact that the support that she needed at that moment came from the one man who could make him jealous.
The night of the debutante ball was still fresh in his mind and the burning jealousy he felt when he observed how close his Kitten was with that Huo man was a thorn in his heart.
As Lina continued listening to his explanation of how Louis Huo and his mother Moira Huo had helped her out, the smile on her face and the joy in her heart knew no bounds.
"Senior Huo is the best!" She giggled as she praised the man who was always good to her.
Ever since she had first met him in college, she had liked the cool and composed attitude of the man who looked as though no storm could deter him.
He had helped her when she needed help and support the most and she had vowed to do the same when the time came for her to help him.
The awe and appreciation she had for Louis was a deeply rooted one and had appeared on her face as well.
However, Reuben had misunderstood this as her liking for the man which made him look like a jar of vinegar that he was slowly turning out to be.
Lina was quick to grasp the changes that had occurred in his behavior which made her realize that there was someone who was burning green in jealousy sitting right next to her.
'Such a child!' She rolled her eyes at the 28-year-old man she had called a child and leaned closer towards him.
The peck he felt on his cheek made the jealous man snap out of his reverie as he gazed at her.
"I like you and only you, Ruby." The solemn declaration of her choice was the only thing that now echoed in his mind.
His furrowed brows eased as they smoothened out just as the frown that had sat on his face.
'So what if Louis knows her longer than I do? She still chose me over him!' He scoffed in victory over his rival who never even had a chance with his Kitten.
Lina rolled her eyes once again at the smug look on his face and just as she was about to take her seat back on the couch, she was yanked forward.
Reuben's dark eyes met her hazel ones and they remained gazing into each other's eyes in silence for what seemed like a long time but in actuality, it was just a few seconds.
The man and woman had gotten used to each other's touch but this did not mean that they wouldn't feel shy or blush whenever they were at a short distance from the other.
"Say that again." He whispered as he leaned closer to her.
