Lina blushed when she heard the gruff and deep voice which assaulted her ears, causing her cheeks to flush.
However, before the lips could meet each other, she pulled away to avoid the kiss.
Reuben did not meet the lips that he had been aiming at and this made him open his eyes to shoot her a questioning glance.
"Hmm?" He inquired with a hum to which Lina blushed further.
'How should I tell him that if we kiss I might forget about everything else!?' She cried out in her mind as she created distance between them.
The previous kiss had done just that as she had forgotten all about what she was going to say next.
'He is really good at kissing and I feel so lightheaded after our kisses!' She recalled those moments of intimacy that led to her being dazed while in his arms.
Though she enjoyed every kiss they had shared, now was not the time for her to be in a lightheaded daze.
Therefore, she held Reuben's hand which was around her waist, and detached herself from his hold.
"Did I do something wrong?" His puzzled reaction to her series of actions made the woman shake her head in staunch refusal.
"Ruby, we need to discuss this matter further… And I cannot do that after we kiss." She whispered the last part of her explanation as she was shy and partially embarrassed by how she would become after their kisses.
Reuben's smirk after hearing her words indicated that he was loving how he was affecting his Kitten in such a way.
Lina glared at him which resulted in the smirk dropping as he put on an appeasing smile.
"So what do you wish to discuss?" He urged her to speak up so that they might finish this quickly and then get back to their make-out session.
'All men want the same thing!' She denounced the greedy man who wanted more even after the long breathtaking kiss they had shared in his bedroom earlier.
As Reuben was oblivious to the fact that his Kitten had made him out to be a sleazebag who only wanted to kiss her, he waited with patience to hear what she had to say.
Lina did not waste much time as she decided to let him know about the suspicions in his heart.
"You know Talia better than I do." She muttered as this was true since they had spent their childhood together with each other.
Though Reuben did not like it, he could not deny the fact that they had spent a good portion of their childhood together even if it was against his wishes.
Their parents had wished for the two children to get married from a young age and hence they tried their best to get the kids in the same place at all times.
Reuben was older but Talia was just a couple of years younger.
They went to the same middle school, same high school but thankfully not to the same college as Talia had opted for design school rather than the business school that Reuben had attended with the Luo twins.
Even when they weren't in the same college, Talia would make it a point to come over to their house when he was meant to make an appearance there.
He had done everything he could to avoid her though there were instances they met even when he tried his best not to.
So what Lina had said was feasible and she was not stretching the truth too much.
"What do you think? Is she involved in trying to taint my name?" She questioned with a stern look on her face.
She was aware of how much Reuben disliked the other woman and hence she did not bother to sugarcoat her words.
Neither did she say anything excessive nor did she point her finger and slander someone.
All she did was ask him for his opinion which he was more than willing to give.
"Yes." His blunt acceptance did not shock Lina as she too had the same thought in her head.
"It was her party and a controlling woman like her would not let anyone ruin her party like Jeanette and Mandy had done." Reuben stated his deductions before her.
Ever since he had heard of Talia's silence during the entire shenanigan, he could not believe that she was an innocent bystander who was just as clueless as the others present at the party.
"If it was Talia who had done this then what would you do, Ruby?" Lina interrogated as she tilted her head to the side.
'The last time, he let her off unharmed but what about now?' She wondered as she waited for his answer.
The last time that Lina was talking about was the incident where Talia had drugged Reuben but he had not done anything to her even after she had committed such a grave sin.
Reuben had not retaliated when she had done such a heinous deed which made Lina suspicious whether he would do the same this time as well.
Lina was unaware of Papa Ming's interference and Mama Ming's request to work in the shadows if Reuben wished to harm the Zhengs, hence she waited for what he might say next.
'Will he stand up for me or will he ask me to step aside and let it slide since their families are close to each other?' She narrowed her eyes as she clenched her fists.
Reuben's eyes darkened as he gazed at her and leaned forward to cup her cheeks in his wide palms.
"The last time, I had let her go with just a little damage to her family's company for what she had done to me but this time…" He paused to shake his head.
"This time, if I know that she was involved in attempting to ruin your reputation then it is only fair that I hit back without restraint." The eerie smile as he said those words did not scare his Kitten away.
Instead, an equally scary smile crept up on her lips after she heard his resolution.
"Even if Ruby cannot harm them due to his family's good relationship with the Zheng… I will not spare them for trying to mess with me." She sneered at the people who were taking her to be a meek lamb who would not stand up for herself.
Hearing her plan to not let the people who had tried to harm her get away with their actions, Reuben's smile deepened as he nodded his head in acceptance.
"This boyfriend of yours will deal with the consequences even if you want to go wild with whatever you plan to do." He chuckled after giving her that benevolent offer.
Lina giggled, feeling pampered by his kind words but she knew not to be too excessive with her actions.
'After all, this Lina Yang is a law-abiding citizen.' She smirked as she moved closer to hug his waist.
Reuben patted her head and smiled when he felt her nuzzle her cheek in the crook of his neck, finding the perfect spot for her to rest her head.
"Once we have enough proof, we can take countermeasures." He muttered to himself, recalling the words that his father had spoken during their phone call.
Lina, who had heard his words, could not agree any more as she had her own way of dealing with such people, and finding the evidence of their crime was the first step in her plans.
