She made it a point to carefully tuck away her affection and love for Edward in the deepest corner of her heart for she was afraid that such a revelation would only be a reason for embarrassment for both of them.
Thus she never admitted the truth.
"I just want to ask you is there anything more than 'like', for example, something that we often do..." Charles sounded more and more inhospitable.
Understanding the current mood Nancy playfully turned her head with a wide smile and in a titillating tone said, "Charles, it seems you have no confidence in yourself at all!"
"Why, why are you saying such a thing? Not at all!" Charles fumbled as he tried to deny it with force.
"You are not going to admit it, are you?" Her face glowed with an even wider smile as she spoke.
"Well, they are my children. So what makes you think that I won't have confidence?" Charles said his words carefully looking right into Nancy's eyes.
Nancy felt as if something heavy exploded inside her head instantly.
How could Charles say such a thing?
He let that out so easily. He did not even flinch once as he said that. How?
The pain in her heart stung sharper than a knife!
Would Charles feel that pain in the same way?
With a pale face Nancy smiled weakly and asked, "Charles, is this some
e children.
"Uncle Hiram is awesome!" Bobby jumped excitedly.
Charles looked at Nancy.
Nancy knew everything about Hiram and Charles.
She was angry that Charles requested Hiram to follow her like a shadow.
"Children let me make you some dinner. Tell me what do you want to eat today?" Nancy asked Bobby and Nadia.
"Mommy, don't worry, Uncle Hiram bought some steamed buns for us. We are full." Pointing at the leftover steamed buns lying on the table, Nadia asked, "Look mommy there are some left. Would you like to eat one?"
"Thank you darling, but Mommy already had her dinner. Let's go and take a shower now then," Nancy suggested softly.
"Alright then. Daddy you also ate, isn't it?" Nadia asked innocently.
"What? Yes." Charles was busy following Nancy all day and therefore he did not eat anything. He felt hungry now.
"But you know stale steamed buns do not taste as good. So I better eat one now." Charles left for the bathroom to clean up.
"Mommy, why does daddy look sad?" Bobby asked out of the blue.
"Daddy looks sad? Is it?" Nancy affectionately ruffled Bobby's hair and said, "Your daddy is an omnipotent man. Everyone in the world may be distressed or sad, but your daddy will never be. Do not worry. Now let's go and take a shower without any more delay."
