There have been a few complications with exploring this whole new world. The main one is that I've been having some difficulties moving. And by that, I don't mean I can't move. For whatever reason, plant biology, or at least what counts as plant biology in this world allows for plants to actually move and walk.
I know this mainly because for the past couple hours I've watched various flours and ferns occasionally pop out of the ground and wander off to who knows where. Let me clarify a bit. They quite literally popped out of the ground and walked off on their fucking roots. This world's plants get to use their fucking roots as legs!
The roots on these plants are ridiculously thick too! Thicker than one would think at least. Either way plants in this world are seriously weird. I'm a bit concerned about seeing what animals this world has...
But I digress! Now given what I saw I obviously tried to walk and… and failed. To put it simply I had very little feeling in my legs and even now an hour later I was only just barely beginning to get feeling back in my roots. The feeling was reminiscent of that pins and needles feeling you get when a part of your body falls asleep. All in all strange. Just not as strange as these circumstances.
But on the bright side nothings tried to eat me yet. So I've been pretty lucky so far. I can't say why these other flowers and ferns haven't tried to eat me despite the current state of things, but none of them have attacked each other yet either. Maybe there's some sort of beneficial relationship their in or there's some sort of unspoken rule?
Either way-
Wait. I can feel something in my roots… Could it be? Mayhaps I'll be able to join the other shrubbery and walk again!?
No! Calm down you can't let your emotions get the best of you! Even the smallest of letdowns when your stranded all alone in unknown land can be detrimental to your survival! Keep calm and analytical… Calm and analytical I say!
Wowzers! This feeling...
At first, it was only a slight tremble. Then a wiggle, and soon my roots were starting to pull themselves free from the confines of the earth!
Yes! Yes! Freedom at last!
With a few more tugs I managed to free my roots. And now I was finally able to see my roots err hideous roots?
Bits of brown which I'll assume is dirt still clung to thick lines of white, but a bit of shaking was able to fix that. Even after seeing the various other flowers and their strangely thick roots I was still unprepared to see my own roots. Instead of a tangled mess of a few thick roots and dozens of smaller roots, there were only a dozen thicker roots. I can't really say how big they were considering I have no idea how big of a flower I am, but I can say that they're around as thick as my own stem.
But enough ogling these roots of mine! Now that I'm finally free of that dirt prison I can finally explore the area! Maybe even find a trail or something to find my way back to a village or something? I know I probably can't really do much even if I make it to a village considering my situation, but I'll cross that bridge once I get to it. What's important right now is that I find some hint of civilization.
Now I don't really know all that much about rainforests and even if I did this is a world with walking plants. I can't expect everything to be the same here. But this, of course, means I need a plan! But considering my lack of experience when it comes to planning and my current situation I shall just walk in one direction until I'm somewhere new and call that the plan. It's not much of a plan but it's something!
As per usual the various flowers were going about their day wandering around on roots with a similar structure as my own. The entire scene of plants walking was surreal, to say the least. Like that small but strong feeling of something off. But if you were to substitute the plants with people and the rainforest with a mall then this place would just be like any other busy mall. Just with you know. With plants.
Thankfully for me, the other plants didn't pay me any mind when I stood up. With a quick glance at my roots, I was able to tell right away that walking would be a tad bit difficult for me. Keep it together, you've got this! Sure you have more root leg thingies than a spider, but it's only walking! How hard can it really be?
I slowly lifted up a single root and took a step forward with it before repeating it again with another root. So far so good. I continued to take one small step at a time as I gradually became more accustomed to my new way of walking. Soon enough I began to speed up once I got used to my odd way of walking.
Alright, this will work! It is working! Ha! Haha! Look at me learning how to walk in a whole new body instantly! You're a fucking genius! Fuck yeah-
Oh, shit!
Just as my confidence reached its peak one just one of my roots moved just a bit slower and ended up tangling with the next root in line. Which in turn tangled the next root! This quickly resulted in my roots knotting themselves up and sending me crashing to the ground with a barely audible thud.
I slowly picked myself up from the ground while shaking off the clumps of dirt that stuck to my stem. The part of my stem which hit the ground stung a tad bit which seems ridiculous. Aren't plants supposed to be a tough bunch? So why does this hurt so much!? Whatever just means that it'll be a bit harder to walk than I thought.
Walking attempt two!
Once again I took a tentative step forward as I started to walk. This time around I decided to take it slow to avoid the little accident I had last time.
And it worked! I wasn't tripping while walking! Sure I was going slower than before but I was still making progress, which is all that matters. With that issue done and over with it's time to explore this forest for a way out. And hopefully not die in the process!
