Fauna Kent's POV

I was looking outside the window as I saw people were going out to get their lunch or maybe they just finished their lunch. I was smiling as I saw a child that was smiling at her parents as they were walking toward a restaurant.

I did not remember much of my childhood as I was only the second daughter of the family. Flora was always the one that gets all the special treatment because my mother told me that she was the best.

She scored the National Spelling Bee.

She won the National Tournament of Women's basketball team.

She won the Young Scientist program that she got to go to Denmark to enhance it.

I sighed as I was remembering all those bitter memories. The bitter memories but they were my memories and I have to live every single day to remember it. But I was also glad that I got to be the invisible child if I did something bad.

I went to my first concert with my best friend.

I went to the Halloween party with my said best friend and I got to taste beer for the first time.

Then I got to almost kissed the boy that I liked.

Then again, I did not get to do it and my first kiss has been with Adam in that fountain and I think my face blushed at that thought alone.

"Hey, are you okay?" Adam asked me as I was turning to look at his stormy eyes.

His stormy eyes.

Black hair, his chisel jaw, and strong, aristocratic nose.

I blinked a few times as I was taking in his full lips as it was moving but I seem to not understand what were they were saying.

"Fauna? Fauna? Fauna, come on, stop staring or I would have to kiss you," he said teasingly as he was parallel parked. He stopped the engine before he turned to look at me. I did not look away as I was looking into his eyes.

"I hope you liked the Portuguese food?" He asked me before I went to look at the restaurant that he had chosen.

Restaurante à Portuguese was one of the places that I go to when I was having a bad day, or good day, or anything at that matter because I loved the environment and the food was delicious.

"Okay, I may have not mentioned to you before that I wanted this for lunch—"

"It's fine. I like Portuguese food," I said as I was smiling at him. He blinked a few times before he looked at me.

"You do?"

"Yeah, my mother used to make me Portuguese stew and I have been addicted to it as my nanny was from Portugal," I said as I unfastened the seatbelt. He did the same before we got out and I was still wearing his jacket. His warmth. His claim.

"Oh, that's great then. I hope you're hungry," he said as he smiled at me.

"I've famished actually. I haven't eaten anything since breakfast," I said honestly. He frowned as he looked at me.

"You skipped breakfast?"

"Yeah, I was having some stomachache and headache before my mum asked me to go to appointments with her. I have to stay in the boutique for as long as I can remember and I did not know how much time we spent at the salon," I said as we were walking to the front. Adam held the door for me as I thanked him before I went inside and the warmth that greeted me was familiar.

The restaurant was cozy enough for kids and sensual enough for dates. I don't think we might be going on a date but I hoped that Adam would not notice the atmosphere.

"Table for two, please," I said as I was looking at the hostess. She leads us to the back table that was concealed from the families that were dining there. I was smiling at her before she looked at Adam and she drew a sharp breath. A sudden pang of jealousy was rousing inside me before I was scowling at her.

"Thank you," Adam said as he went to pull the chair out for me like a gentleman. I hoped he would not be that much of gent or I might end up betraying my sister, my flesh and blood if this continues.

"Here's the menu. If you're ready, just raise your hand," the waiter said as he was giving the menu and we thanked him.

"What would you like for your drinks?" He asked as he was looking at us.

"Give us a bottle of Chardonnay," Adam said as he was looking at me, raising an eyebrow. I sensed that he was asking for approval. I nodded before I smiled at him.

"What are you getting?" I asked Adam as I was flipping across the menu. It seems that they don't have much of a variety.

"Hmm, I think I would love to have some Portuguese stew. Some say it was the best thing on a dish," he said as he was winking at me teasingly. I scowled before I smiled at his childish behavior. I can see that he was not so serious after all.

"Okay, I will have some of that as well then,"

"No you can have the same as mine," he protested as he was looking at me. I arched my eyebrow at him.

"And why is that?"

"It will defeat the purpose of dining out,"

"Which are?" I asked him as I put the menu down. He did as well.

"Well, I would like to have shared some of your food and you can share mine," he said as he was looking at me. I found his seriousness about sharing the food was too cure. I smiled before I laughed at him. He did not share the same joke.

"Okay, I will have something else then, if you are so into this sharing things," I said before I sensed that he was smirking at me.

"Oh you better get used to it, meu amor," he said as he was looking at me, hand under his chin. I was staring at him before my stomach did a flip and thank god that he went to look at the menu again. He signed for the waiter as he came and brought our wine and glasses.

he opened the cork with ease as I was trying to not look at his expertise of opening the wine. He poured the wine and set it up in front of us as he put the rest of the wine in the bucket full of ice.

"Ready to order?" He asked as he was looking at us.

"Yes, we will take Caldo Verde and Bifanas," Adam said as he closed the menu and the waiter took it from our table. I arched my eyebrow at him as he did not order the stew-like he wanted to.

"I want to taste yours then I will taste the one that will be served in the restaurant," he said as he was leaning on the table with his hand. I blushed before I reached for the wine and sipped it.

after a while, the food came and I was ready to dig in before Adam asked for my hands.

"What for?" As I was confused with his request.

"We shall not forget to thank the Lord for this food," he said and we went to pray silently before we dig in.

"So, you have some more work to do that you refused to look at the tapes with me?" He asked me as he was eating his sandwich. I dabbed the napkin across my mouth before drinking some water down my throat. It tasted nice.

"Well, I don't know if my boss would approve of me doing the job for the police or in this case, Interpol. It was hard enough for me to translate the scientific journal but if you need it, you can apply for my service through my boss and see if he approves," I said as I was cutting some more of the food before Adam took my fork and ate it.

"Hey, that's mine,"

"And now you will mine," he said as he was giving a portion of his sandwich onto my plates. I scowled before I took a bite of the sandwich. My taste bud was tingling with sensation as I was eating the sandwich. Then, I smiled.

"See, I told you sharing food would be an amazing experience," he said as he was biting into my Caldo Verde.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. I never had this chance before," I said as I was making my way through my food. It was delish and I hate to waste more food than I should. Not all people have the same luxury as I did.

"Why didn't you?" He asked as he was sipping on his wine. I was playing with my food before I was sighing to tell him my story.

"Maybe another time. besides, I cannot give all it away on our first date," I said as I was teasing him with my smile.

"First date, eh?" He asked as he put down his glass as he looked at me. I looked at his stormy eyes and instantly, I licked my lips.

"Well, I hope that I will get to the second date as well," he said as he was smiling at me. Unable to resist, I smiled back.

After a short while, as we talked and eat, I have the most pleasant date with Adam. Not that I would have anyone to compare to, but I think I would love to be in his company again. And I hope it will be soon.

"Thanks for the lunch date, I guess," he said as he was standing beside the car as I just got out of the car as he opened the door for me. I smiled as I was looking at him, flushed by the wine.

"Well, thank you for sending me home," I said as I looked at him. His eyes were calculating as if he wanted to say something.

"What?"

"I have been thinking,"

"You have? About what? Surely not about our engagement," I said as I was chuckling. He did not smile nor he was chuckling as well. He was dead serious.

Adam was considering about our marriage and engagement.

"Fauna, I may not be the one guy that you wanted to spend time with but I think that if we give a try for our relationship to work, I think we can achieve it," he said as he was looking at my face. The heart was beating fast as sweat was accumulating at the back of my spine.

"You want us to work?"

"100%. If anyone should be married to you, I think I am that guy. After that kiss, I…i cannot think anyone else but you," he confessed as I can see the emotions in his eyes before he blinked. Then it was blank again.

"Okay," I blurted before I can stop myself.

"Okay? You wanted us to work as well?" He asked. I can simply nod as I don't think I trust my mouth to answer right now.

"Oh thank you, Fauna, you just made my day," he said as he was kissing me on the mouth.
