Chapter 13: The Change

Fauna Kent's POV

so, I just got a call the next morning after Adam's visit from my mum. It was nothing special really, except it was for my engagement party and I was forgotten about it. The phone rang in the early morning as I was dreaming about Adam and how we would look good together before it was being broken down by that stupid phone.

"Hello?" I asked grumpily because that person was messing with my good dreams.

"Are you still sleeping?" It was the first thought that came to my mum's mind when it was Saturday.

"what is it? Why are you calling me so early?" I asked her as I was plumping back to bed.

"do you remember what is happening today?" She asked me.

"umm, holiday? Weekend for me to relax?" I answered honestly but more like questioning my wording.

"it was your engagement party. Yours! Seriously, Fauna, I swear if you are not here by noon, I will personally kill you," my mum said before she hangs up. I could not answer her before I looked at the clock.

"shoot, she will kill me," I said as I was looking at the clock. It was 10:30 AM. still, there was so much time but I took public transport to get to my parents and the journey was almost an hour long.

I jumped out of bed and was walking into the bathroom before I tripped and fall on my butt as I was slipping on the socks that I did not put on the laundry basket.

"son of a!" I said before I got up and took a quick shower. I brushed my teeth and cleaned my face before stepping under the freezing water. It was supposed to be Fall but I think I don't enough luxury to pay for hot waters.

"damn you!" I said as I was hurrying to get the body wash off my body. I did not have time to wash my hair as I was already late. I got out of the shower and put on the sweater and the legging as my real dress was in my bedroom at my parents'. I know if I brought it back, it will wrinkle and dirty even more.

"I should have started to think about presenting myself better," I mumbled before I took my handbag and keys and phone and rushed out the door.

I was getting out of the penthouse (i know, for someone who lives in a penthouse but can't afford for warm water, what a joke) and rushed to the lobby. I was trying to get my bus card out before I heard someone cleared their throat behind me.

"Adam? What are you doing here?" I asked my fiancé as he was smiling at me before he stepped closer to me. My stomach turned and my feet curled up as he went to hold my neck and kissed me squarely on the mouth.

"hi," he said.

"hi," I whispered as the effect of the kiss still lingered on my system. He chuckled.

"so, are you ready to go?" He asked as he was holding my hands.

"Yeah, why? But hold on a minute, why are you here?" I asked him as I hold up my hand at him.

"your mum asked me to be here as she knows that you will be late because you will be taking the public transport and will be late for your party," he said as he was amused by me.

"well, thank you for reminding me then," he said as he kissed me before he opened the door and I went inside. He went to the driver seat and sped off out of the downtown to my parents' house on the top of the hill of some fancy-schmancy suburban.

"ah, you finally arrived. Thank god," my mother said as I was getting off from the car as well as Adam. He was greeting my mother with kisses on her cheeks and he shook my father's hand.

"How are you, son?" My father asked as they were exchanging news. Mrs. Florenz was coming at me as she hugged me tightly.

"oh, you're here. I thought you would not make it. After all, this is for you and Adam," she said as she was looking for her son. I smiled at her as she smiled at me.

"well, Adam was being courteous as he was kind enough to pick me up from my apartment," I said as I was looking at Mrs. Florenz. Her blue eyes were shining.

"oh, and has Adam been there?" She asked and instantly, I blushed remembering about last night's event.

"umm, uh,"

"mum, stop making Fauna uncomfortable with your questions and besides, what we do in our past time together was none of our business," Adam said as he wrapped his hand around my waist possessively. seriously, since when he started to do that?

"oh, I cannot wait for our grandchildren, Stacy!" she exclaimed.

"Mum!" Adam exclaimed as I was sure that my cheeks were as red as the rose right now.

"Okay, let's get you situated. Fauna, go change," my mother said as she was eyeing me up and down. I rolled my eyes at her.

"what I have is fine,"

"what you have was for the cute girls in their teens, not for a woman who was engaged," she hissed at me.

"Well, Adam does not seem to mind. Right, Adam?" I asked as I turned to look at him.

"I, uh—"

"well, of course, he did not care because you will be his in a matter of days now. But our reputation in society will tell me that I don't know how to dress up my daughter properly. now, off you go," she said as she ushered me toward the house.

I was being dragged into my room until she gave me the dress that she bought for me years ago that I do not want to wear. It showed off too much of my skin. I could not wear that in front of all the people that I don't know!

"Okay, now. Chop chop!" She said as she closed my door and she went out of the room. I grimaced but I cannot help to admire the dress that she had for me.

it was green and it was made of lace and sheer. It has sparkled tiny emerald around the bodice as the sleeves ended at my elbows. It was conservative but with a modern touch. I put it on and surprised that my measurement was not changing from more than years ago.

"huh, maybe I am malnutrition," I said as I was looking at the mirror and it was showing my skin with a highlight because my hair was glossy to its best and the minimal makeup that I have on was completing the look.

"Woah," a voice was coming from behind as I turned and Adam was staring back at me.

Adam Florenz's POV

After Fauna was being dragged by her mother, I was doing my best to get the food and beverages in place that they should. I was talking to Scott beforehand about the company as Fauna never thought that I would have some knowledge in that.

It was an IT company but I was a graduate in Computer Science with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence. I think she would be surprised if I would be the new CEO of the company. She predicted it was her sister but Scott and my father thought that I would be the best choice.

"So, how was my favorite son-in-law to be today?" He asked after we carried the punch out and set another set of beverage choices.

"well, if I was being honest, dreadful," I said as I was smiling at him. He patted my back as we were walking back to the kitchen to get some of the foods out.

"well, if you were the CEO of the company," my father said as he was coming right from behind. I groaned.

"Come on, Leonor, give the boy a little break. He just got to learn that fighting crime will never end," Scott said as they both laughed.

"but they helped to keep others in peace and maybe the companies that can h=be hacked from outside safe if I ever uncover the hackers. But what can I say? I just running all day," I said before my mother called for me.

"excuse me," I said as I left them, speechless to say after my comment.

"yeah?" I asked my mum in Portuguese as I was looking that she was grinning from ear to ear.

"Okay, now that you will be getting married this upcoming Saturday," she started.

"mum, not the talk about making babies," I groaned as she smacked playfully.

"no, but I will get on to that,"

"Please don't," I said as I closed my ears to prevent her from talking about it.

"oh, hush now. Stacy asked you to get Fauna from her room. Now go, hurry," she said as she was pushing me to the hallway to get to the staircases. I mean, this mansion was huge and I can get lost if I was ever to be wandering around.

but luckily, I know where Fauna's room was as I saw her the other day from the gathering that we have here. I smiled to myself as I was about to meet her after she changed into something more feminine, according to her mother anyway.

I mean, that woman can wear anything and still look pretty in anything. No matter if she wore clothes that made of rags, she would still rock it.

not that all her clothes were rags. Maybe occasionally.

I was walking toward her room as she was finishing her hair to cascade her shoulder as she was dressed in the green summer dress. It ended after the knees and the 3/4 sleeves were a nice touch on her petite body.

"Woah," I commented as I cannot control my honesty. She turned to look around and she was even more beautiful in than her reflection. Her mouth was tinted with pink lips gloss and her eyeshadow was in nude closer but it made her green eyes even bigger. The pastel green of her dress made her complexion even healthier.

"Adam, what are you doing here?" She asked as she was putting her dirty laundry in the basket.

"I was sent to get you. ready?" I asked her as I offered her my hand.

"as I would ever be," she took it before we went outside to face the dreadful party that I just wished we could escape from.

But I bet Stacy would not approve at that.
