Chapter 59 - Karen's In A Bad Bad Mood

Name:The Devil's Harem Author:
Chapter - 59

A new day, a new beginning. When Alex woke up, he looked a bit drained. Though he slept like a log, throwing away all his concerns, the moment he woke up, he remembered Karen's husband and his unkempt appearance. Just thinking about it, Alex could not help but shudder. How could she marry someone like him? The two of them were so apart. Karen was like the only shining star on a cloudy night while her husband was the dark, black cloud trying to hide it.

"Yuck... What the Fuck!" A strong stench penetrated his nose. Covering his nose, he looked around for the source of the smell, but nothing seems to be rotting in his room. Alex lifted his blanket and smell it.

"Fuck! What's this shit?" The smell was coming from his blanket.

'Don't tell me I peed in the bed," Alex was scared shitless. If his mother came to his room right now, what face will he have?

Just when he was about to check his pant, he looked at his shirt and knew what was the cause. He forgot to change his clothes last night and crawled in his bed with clothes covered in Margaret's puke.

Dejected, disappointed, drowning in dismay, he dragged himself off his bed and pulled with him the blanket as well as the sheets as he made his way to the bathroom to wash up. Soon after dressing nicely, he went downstairs for breakfast.

When George and Martha saw Alex climb down the stairs dressed splendidly, they thought their son was going for some kind of a party. The kind of parties which usually takes place in those ivory towers where people wearing diamond studs, with champagne in one hand, and they talk about the problems of the country. They were amazed by his transformation.

They asked him what was the occasion for him to dress so nicely, but all they got from him was that he just wanted to. Alex left soon afterwards without going into detail for the reason he dressed up like that.

In the office,

When Alex reached the office, he found the usually bustling office in complete silence. He greeted the ladies, but they just nodded towards him and signalled him to keep his voice down. No one seems to have noticed the efforts he put in to dress himself up.

Alex walked to his desk and whispered to Amber, who was sitting beside him, "What happened here? Why are they so deadly silent?"

"Don't ask me. I only got here a couple of minutes before you," Amber shrugged and went back to painting her nails. This girl literally had all the time in the world.

Alex didn't like this unusual atmosphere. He has gotten used to the constant chatter, occasional bickering and the ladies running around him. His stomach was churning with the urge to know what was happening going on. He took out his phone, wrote a message and sent it.

** Buzz

Ellaine picked her phone and found a message from Alex. She looked at him, and making faces, turned away.

Alex was taken back by her gesture. It didn't even cross his mind that what he did yesterday could have been the cause of it.

"Chee... Chesshh..." Alex let out some weird sounds to get her attention, but Ellaine ignored him whatsoever.

By now, Alex knew that Ellaine was playing deaf, so he could only pin his hopes on someone else, and who is better than Hazel after Ellaine?

He forwarded the same message to Hazel. When Hazel saw the message from Alex, she looked at him with her brows raised, which meant, 'What's the message for?', while Alex gestured for her to read the message.

Hazel read the message, 'What is the matter? Why are you all so silent and behaving this way?'

'Don't ask. Karen is in a very terrible mood,' Hazel wrote back to him.

'What happened?' Alex asked.

'Evidently, she argued with her husband, at least that's what we all think,' Hazel told him.

'Why?' Alex wrote back.

'You tell me. You went to drop her home last night,' Hazel questioned him. Alex, after reading Hazel's reply, looked at her while she gave him a suspicious look.

'Is it because of me?' Alex wrote back. He did think that he might be the cause after his slight, not worth mentioning, an altercation with Karen's husband.

'Maybe, You tell me what happened when you went to drop her home. Don't leave out a single detail,' Hazel now sniffed something from Alex's replies, and she was curious to dig deep.

'Should I go and test the waters?' Alex suggested.

'Are you tired of living? Right now, she might even devour you raw,' Hazel outright rejected the idea.

'Then what are we going to do now?' Alex asked for her suggestion.

The moment Alex asked this, he got a couple of notifications on his desktop. It was an invitation to join some sort of group.

'I have sent you the invitation to join the two department groups,' Hazel messaged him before he could ask.

They were the invites to join the two groups of the PR department. One was more official that was named, 'Work,' while the other was, 'Ladies of the PR.' As soon as Alex joined the group, messages began to pour in. his phone began to buzz non-stop, and welcome messages from everyone were sent.

"The newbies are here, everyone," Hazel wrote.

'Welcome newbies'. Ellaine was the first one to greet.

'Now both of you are truly a part of the PR department. Congratulations,' someone wrote.

'Welcome,' Jennifer's message was simple as always.

Messages like this flooded the group.

'Excuse me, but don't you think we need to change the group's name?' Alex wrote after a while. Now that the group had a man as well, they needed to do away with the existing name.

'Yeah, we now have our errand boy join the group. I think we should change the name,' Hazel agreed with Alex.

'Only you and Ellaine can treat such cutie as your errand boy,' someone wrote.

'Well, we know how to use the resources well, don't we, Ellaine?' Hazel wrote back.

'Hmmm,' Ellaine replied, 'Don't we have a name to think of?' Ellaine diverted the topic smoothly.

'Yeah. What should we name it?' someone asked.

'Office Members?' Jennifer suggested.

'Nah... it's too bland,' Hazel rejected it right away.

'I have a suggestion,' Amber wrote.

'Ohh... the new member is going to suggest. Let's hear her out.'

'How about 'Prey among Predators'?' Amber asked.
