Even though Bernard was beaten to death, Devin was still worried about her safety. Getting rid of Drew, he was about to enter into the house again but his footsteps halted when a thin figure emerged out as if she is walking drunk.
"She was fine before right? Why is she laughing all of a sudden?" Turning his head, he inquired the backstabber who has partnered with her. Considering the way, Drew was looking elsewhere, he knew they must have gone beyond the pale again.
"I want an answer, Drew." He declared.
"I_we, we planned to spray nitrous oxide gas on him. She must have whiffed a little in the process." Drew looked hesitantly at Devin as he gulped air to steady himself sensing his wrath.
"Drew, What did I tell you before? Didn't I warn you not to get out of the car? She has fought with that sc.u.m all alone. Her leg is injured, she has bruised her neck. Don't you have a little soft corner towards her? Ignore about helping, you even pushed her to spray a dangerous gas on him by herself?" Devin shouted over the raising clamor of voices.
Drew trembled as he saw the veins in Devin's neck pulsating already. He regrets pushing her towards the sc.u.m. Looking at her smiling face, he thought she was fine already.
"I_I never thought he would come into the house," Drew whispered. He has solved many robbery and murder cases successfully but he did not think this one would fail miserably.
"Do you think this is your childish video games? I made a big mistake bringing both of you here. What if it has side effects?" Devin shouted at him, fury on his face, his words were lost on the storm.
"It's a very good brand. There are no side effects, Vincy. We have checked everything before buying it. It only renders laugh and ecstasy when one inhales." Drew explained hurriedly.
"Have you thought about the consequences? Look at her bruises now. Who is_"
The wild conversation they were having was interrupted by a sweet voice suddenly.
"Mr. Adonis, one molecule of He, two molecules of He, three molecule of He." Leena stumbled as she walked towards Devin with open arms.
"W_hat?" Devin questioned. Is she speaking Chemistry language now? He couldn't help but smile despite his anger with the way she asked him a question that is out of the discussion. This is the thing about her. She has the power to raise his anger over the mountains and pull it back to the ocean of serenity with her presence and talks alone. When did it start? Devin has asked this question umpteen times but he doesn't have an answer.
"Did you think it is a Helium element? I would love to say yes, but unfortunately, no. It's he hehe hehehe." Leena giggled pointing her hands towards them in a mocking manner.
"You know what, carbon dioxide is no the only greenhouse gas there. He is also contributing it to environmental destruction." Leena again started.
"Who is he?" Devin inquired softly. He has to carefully deal with her now. He is assuming she has inhaled more than a little laughing gas to send her into a euphoria state.
"It's me."
"You told it's he?" Drew asked in a muddle.
"It's not HE. It's ME. Nitrous oxide. I am the great Nitrous oxide. More cutely, people call me, laughing gas."
"Ummmm...Vincy. I think she is assuming herself as nitrous oxide gas." Drew said. Even if she has become a laughing gas, she didn't forget to praise herself?
"I think I inhaled a lot of LO2L. What to do. I don't want to speak. I don't want to laugh. But I am not able to control." Leena tugged the hem of Devin's shirt.
"LO2L? It's N2O right? She might have misspelled." Drew agreed with his thought but little did he knew Leena was talking about LO2L.
"Let's go home then, you can sleep. Shall I carry you? Your leg is injured." Devin asked c.a.r.e.s.sing her cheeks.
"Of course you have to carry me. I am sleepy also. Why am I laughing again?" Leena threw herself into Devin's embrace which startled him. If Drew wouldn't have held him, he would have already fallen on to the ground.
"Is she hugging me?" Devin asked Drew to confirm in a daze.
"Why? Do you want me to carry her, Vincy?" Drew teased to enrage the already angered Devil.
"Do you dare?" His threaten worked on him instantly.
"Hey! I am just kidding." Drew pouted.
"You are not allowed to carry me. I am allergic to men."
"Biased girl. He is also a man." Drew pointed.
"My Mr.Adonis is an exception."
"Vincy, I think she likes you already," Drew clarified. He could already sense Devin's excitement watching over his face.
"When did you become an honest broker. Didn't you hear? My sweetheart is sleepy. Go and start the car." Despite his stoic face, there was an internal turmoil brewing within Devin. Did she start liking me now? As if his space has gone to the finest point possible and his time as if it collapsed into a speck of dust that is exploding at lightning speed with Drew's words. More to it, she is hugging me.
"Call Michael and ask him to come urgently. I don't want to take her to the hospital. Don't inform anyone in the house." Devin spoke as low as possible not to disturb the girl in his arms. It was a surprise that she is keeping quiet now.
"Even I want to get it treated. Her tooth prints are still visible on my wrist." Looking at his poor wrists, Drew cried.
"Hey! I am listening," Her voice raised instantly when her topic was brought.
"So what? Look at my wrist. You have bitten like a vampire"
"Hey! I am a vegan. Don't compare with those false teeth bloodsuckers. They are a pain in the neck." Leena stated. Both her friends, Reese, and Jane always watch vampire movies on the marathon but she always sleeps within fifteen minutes of the start of the movie out of bored.
"False teeth?" Drew giggled. Even though he liked vampire movies, he likes to listen to her comparison which always turns out to be crazy.
"I named them funnily." Leena's giggle turned into outright laughter. "Because they appear only at night times,"
Devin suppressed his laugh at her choice of words. She always comes up with something to light his mood.
"Mr. Adonis, I wanted to ask you one question." Her topic immediately shifted to Devin when she remembered something.
"You are always welcome to ask anything, sweetheart." He lovingly c.a.r.e.s.sed her hair.
"Do your cologne has laughing gas?" Leena sheepishly looked down when he was rubbing her hair. She was already feeling sleepy with the way he was massaging her hair stroke after stroke harmoniously.
"No. It doesn't have." What kind of questions is this? Devin marveled.
"Then why am I laughing for no reason? Laughing gas wanted to know it seems."
"Did you seriously took the role of being nitrous oxide today?" He chuckled. Before he could ask her to sleep for some time, Leena suddenly approached his face. Touching his jaw, Leena started c.a.r.e.s.sing his stubble. An unfamiliar emotion rippled through his heart as he gazed down at her which was squeezing his throat. His voice has become hoarse when he started speaking.
"Do you know what you do_"
"Why is your light stubble more attractive to me. You look hotter every passing day. I can look at your face without getting bored all day. Can you keep it always?" Leena mumbled. Sighing, she was about to retreat her hand, Devin instantly grabbed it placing it on the same spot when he missed the tenderness.
"If you like it, I will always keep it." Devin bent to whisper in her ear. He likes to keep his stubble a little always and his sweetheart also likes it now. He doesn't know if she remembers once she gets sober, but this moment, he wanted to last it forever.
"These idiots. Can't they get a room?" Drew mumbled grabbing a water bottle feeling thirsty all of a sudden. I will also get a girlfriend soon.
"Thank you." Sheepishly Leena smiled. "But I have seen this stubble somewhere."
"Where?" Devin asked in a trance state, still in the euphoria of her touch.
Pondering for a while, Leena ransacked her brain to recall it.
"I remember now. I think it's on the carpet which I have placed in my home. Why is it in your chin?" Leena asked innocently.
Drew who was drinking water spilled all the fluid on to windshield suddenly. My goodness! Did she seriously visualize that as a carpet? Her level of craziness is beyond bananas. He suddenly wondered what nonsense she would speak if she drinks alcohol.
" One day, we should make her drink for fun." Drew giggled and out of blue, he suddenly remembered Devin's state.
Turning back a little, Drew peeked into Devin's face. He wished he would not have turned back to see his darkened gaze directing at the sleeping girl.
