Candice laughed out hard before asking the server for water. She was amused to watch Rui's tangled expression.
He was obviously trying to evade the possibility of offending her or else he would end up in a great disadvantage.
She then drank the glass of water and got into a little serious mode of hers, but still said with a tone of evident tease, "Since I owe you one for saving me back then, I will help you out this one time. But everything will go according to my wish and how I want it to be. So, just dance to my rhythm... Dr. Meddler."
She had a lopsided grin plastered over her face as she waited for his answer.
"Do I even have a choice?" Rui replied wryly and shook his head. Then he suddenly asked, "By the way, since when did you become a Professor?"
Candice chuckled and said, "Since yesterday, Doc. Ask one more question and you are not going to like my answer. Go home now. Cali is alone… Better watch out for her more carefully…"
"I know. Thank you for this…" Rui murmured.
Candice chuckled and said, "Thank me later if you succeed in your aim. I will not stay very long here but I will try my best to help you get back your wife while I'm here… Go already before I change my mind."
Rui stood up and quickly left the instant he heard that because he knew Candice would always do as she said.
"Will it not compromise the job?" A man who came and sat down in front of her commented.
"Nah, it will be in fact a little more enjoyable now, while completing my job, it's actually fun to tease Rui's woman… a possessive brat ever since," she replied with an evil smile.
Meanwhile, Rui went back to his house and was startled to hear Cali's scrutinizing voice, "Where had you been?!"
"Oh, you startled me! Why are you awake at this hour?" He asked while walking towards her. She was frowning and looked completely pissed off.
"I couldn't sleep, but where had you been? Why didn't you tell me you would go out?" She complained with a crumpled face. She was not pleased to be left alone like that without him telling her.
Rui gave her his usual roguish smile as he said, "Come here and I will make you a glass of hot milk. I had just gone outside to buy something. I thought you're already asleep, so I did not wake you up just to tell you I was going out to buy something."
Cali followed Rui quietly. Yes, she was on the bed, but she was wide awake. She tried hard to sleep but could not.
The idea of pretending to be Rui's fiance was making her uneasy. She was suddenly regretting why she offered herself like that. She felt like she would be in great trouble in getting involved with his dilemma.
She sat at the kitchen counter and watched Rui preparing a hot milk for her.
"Why can't you sleep?" Rui asked as he placed the cup of hot milk on her table.
Cali heaved a long sigh and wondered if she should tell Rui her hesitation about them pretending or not.
"I'm not sure… I mean, I'm not comfortable pretending to be your girlfriend." Cali muttered with her head down.
Rui smiled and patted her head.
"That's okay, sweetheart. You don't have to if you don't want to do it. Besides, I think I can handle Candice well enough. Is that why you're still awake? Go finish your milk now and clear your thoughts so you can sleep. Don't think about it…" Rui said. He had expected it already, but if his assessments were right, Cali would naturally do it once Candice started executing her moves.
He could tell that Candice's mere presence was bothering Cali, and his dear wife was becoming possessive over him without even realizing it.
Rui observed her carefully as she finished drinking her milk. But then there's some milk left on her lips. He was drooling to kiss her and wipe the milk on her lips with his own, but all he could do was to just imagine doing it relentlessly.
Cali seemed to be immersed in a deep thought to even bother about how clumsily she drank her milk. He heaved a long sigh and soon raised his hand and wiped the milk on her lips with his thumb.
Cali's face reddened. What Rui did, brought her back to reality... She quickly grabbed some tissue and wiped her lips. She felt embarrassed as It was already the second time now Rui did that. For her it was an intimate gesture, and she felt very uncomfortable.
"Stop doing that. I told you to tell me next time and I'll do it." Cali chided.
Rui chuckled and said, "Sorry, I can't help it. It's my reflex, and it's quick to do what's necessary. Why are you red? It's like wiping a child's lips when milk is spilled…"
"Excuse me! Am I a child?" Cali countered with a creased face.
Rui ignored her tantrums and said instead, "Go back to your room now and sleep. Don't overthink things. And about Candice it's really okay…"
"Are you going to ask Ruth for help?" Cali suddenly grunted.
Rui shook his head saying, "No, I won't do that so don't worry. I'll think of other ways…"
Cali walked back to her room, feeling more unsettled.
She heaved a long sigh…
After a careful thought, she realized that pretending to be Rui's girlfriend would be like a torture to her because she was feeling something weird whenever he was close to her. She did not want to entertain those feelings because she wanted to focus on her studies, and besides, she never considered being in a romantic relationship with her private doctor because it felt strange to her somehow.
For now, she would observe and try to assess if she's able to manage not to meddle in Rui's affair with Candice. Hopefully she would.
Rui poured some wine into his glass and sat in the bar. At this point, Cali had conflicted feelings towards him and she was in great denial, but he could feel that she liked him or would it be too fast to assume that if she was falling for him.
He smiled because he knew it very well that he was on the right track and hopefully, Candice's arrival would trigger Cali's feeling for him.
It was easy for him to assess people, but somehow for Cali, he was doubtful. He did not want to assume anything, rather he would like to hear the words from Cali.
