Chapter 12: The Conference

Daisy Dyer's POV

"Promise me you will come back," I said as I was hugging Ella. She will be flying to Seattle to settle her work and I think I will be looking forward to her coming to NYU this time. We will be having so much fun together!

"I hope you will save me a seat then," she said as I was laughing at her.

"You know my apartment will be open to you at any time," I said as I was looking at her. Ella shook her head.

"I cannot burden you anymore. I know you're kind, Dee but please, I wanted my own space. And it would be a great help if you find me a place. I will transfer the money once you got it," Ella said as I nodded at her.

"I will try my best then,"

"I know you will," she said before we hugged for the last time and I was waving at her. She was going through the TSA and I was looking at her. I sighed. Well, another month to feel alone again. I smiled.

But it will be worth it.

The day of the conference was here. Lucia stated that I have to wear a formal dress. I don't have one so I need to talk to Lea and Barb then. But Barb was out of the state and my only help was Lea then.

I was standing in front of the penthouse that belonged to Alexander MacWatters. He was a professor at the Chemistry department at NYU. I sighed before I rang the doorbell. I waited before Lea was opening the door.

I hope she was alone.

I smiled at her before she went to hug me. Since Lea was married to that man, we hardly have time together since her husband loved to be alone with her.

Like all the time.

"Hey, I was wondering when you will come over," Lea said as we were inside the house. I was looking around the penthouse and it was immaculate. But one thing was different, the decor was more of the water theme.

Which was weird.

But knowing Lea who loved to be underwater and was an oceanographer that has completed her Ph.D. and was waiting for her posting as a faculty, I think that was understandable.

"Is your husband home?" I asked as I was putting my handbag on the coffee table. Lea was walking to the kitchen before I followed her pursuit.

"No, Alex was at the campus. He stated that he needed to go over with something with someone," she replied before she was asking me if I wanted something.

"Coffee would be nice," I said before Lea was busy making some coffee for me. And she was making tea for herself.

"So, want to tell me what kind of conference that you will be going to tonight?" She asked me as I was accepting the coffee. I shrugged.

"Not that I don't want to tell you, but I have no idea at all. Lucia said that I just have to wear something formal, that's it," I said as I was sipping on the coffee. Lea nodded as she was moving to the bedroom that I don't know if I could go in or not.

"Come on. Don't be shy. We don't have any kinky stuff,'' Lea said as I was taking a step inside the bedroom that she shared with her husband.

"Yet," Lea added.

"Ee, please spare my innocent ears from your talk please," I said as I was looking at her. Lea laughed before she opened the wardrobe. Her engagement and wedding rings were glistening in the morning rays.

I wished I wanted to wear them as well.

I was looking at the arrays of clothes; evening gowns, cocktail dresses, short and long dresses. If I don't know any better, Lea loved to spend her money on dresses. As if she was reading my mind, she told me how she got this all.

"Your mother in law wanted to spoil you?" I asked her as she was holding the dress in front of me to make my choice. I shook my head most of the time as I felt like I was violating her privacy that her mother in law spent for Lea.

"It's alright. It's not like I wanted to wear it all the time. I heard that Alex's mother loved to spend it on me. And I have too much. So I think you might keep it the one that you choose to wear for the conference," Lea said as I was looking at her.

"Are you sure? I mean not to take advantage but I would not like it if my daughter in law was giving freely the stuff that I bought for her," I said as I was sipping on the coffee before Lea laughed.

"Okay, if you said so," I said before Lea was pulling the silver dress. I was taken by it as it was the perfect one for me.

"How about this?" She asked before I cannot say anything. I was looking at the dress and instantly, Lea knows the answer to it.

"Why don't you put it on?" She said as she pushed me into the bathroom and I changed.

"How was it?" She asked me as I was looking at myself in the mirror.

Holy smokes, I looked hot!

"It's perfect," I said as I was getting out of the bathroom. Lea smirked.

"I told you the silver suits you. Now, change back. We don't want you to be late," Lea said as I was rolling my eyes at her. Whatever, like I care to be early for the conference anyway.

Dylan Windell's POV

I was standing in front of the hall that we will be sitting in for the conference. I was wearing the formal suit as Lucia instructed me to. I don't know why I bothered to find one and Maxwell was kind enough to borrow it to me. I sighed as I was looking at the watch, it was 7:30 PM.

"Where are they?' I asked myself as I saw the familiar car of Lucia.

"Finally," I mumbled before I went to open the door. Lucia got out first before someone was getting out.

I looked at the slit of her leg that was showing even though she was wearing a coat and a dress. The leg was enticing and my eyes were riding up the leg before I was looking at the breasts that were perked. I don't know how but it was the perfect breasts that I ever saw.

Then I traced to her face and I was taken back to see that Daisy Dyer was looking like a completely different person. I blinked a few times before she scowled at me.

"Will you please let me through? We don't have all the time for this," she said as she was getting out of the car before valet was closing the door and she stood in front of me. I was speechless to form any word.

"Shall we?" I asked as I was offering my hand to her. She looked at it before she went ahead. I gripped my hand as I was being rejected by this woman.

I have never been rejected before!

I caught up with Lucia and Daisy as they were talking. I can see that the slit of Daisy's dress was drawing attention from other scientists. Something stirred inside me as I was glaring at the old men that dared to look at my partner.

What the hell?!

I was shaking my head before we were admitted inside the hall and we were seated. Daisy was clever enough not to sit beside me as she was on the other side of Lucia. I was looking at them before I saw there was another young man that was sitting next to her.

Eliot Park.

I heard that he was a big deal in Norway with his wealth and investment in green technology. I don't think that he would be so…young and Daisy was talking to him. I can see that she was enticed by Eliot and I hated it.

I wanted to kill that man now.

Before I can think one hundred ways to kill Park, the MC was introducing the speakers and we were looking at the stage before the conference began. I think I saw that Eliot was commenting on something and Daisy was smiling at him.

That's it, I think I will have another word with Daisy right after this.
