Chapter 3: The Interrogation

Liam Hunt's POV

"So, tell me, Miss Duncan, where were you during the 12 A.M and 1 A.M?" I said as I sat down in the interrogation room with her. She was calm and reserved as she was staring into my eyes with her slate orbs.

"As I said before if you recall, I was watching the news with my cat, Leo. I was eating lasagna and after that, I went back to sleep," she said while keeping steady eye contact with me. She looked at me as she was expecting me to say that she was lying.

"Can you tell me in detail about the news that you are watching at the time?" I asked as I leaned forward with my hands on the table.

"Well, I was watching the local news of the wildfire that was happening in Inverness and some robbery in Glasgow. But nothing else. However, I did remember to watch a reality tv show after the news," she said as she was crossing her hands in front of her chest. Her breasts were in full view and I think my little brother was stirring beneath the table. Lord, help me…

"That hair sample can be anyone's hair. How should I know if that truly belongs to me?" She questioned me as she arched her eyebrow. I looked at her as she was playing a mind game with me. But guess what, two can play at this game.

"I see. So, you're telling me that anyone can be Mia Duncan as it might not only be your name but can be anyone else's name?" I asked her as I got up from my seat and walked around the room. I was looking at the mirror that separated the outside world and the room. "then, tell me, Miss Duncan, how can I found the other Mia Duncan?" I said as I pulled out the files that contained all the deceased Mia Duncan that I can found in the database. Miss Duncan's expression was hard as she looked at those files.

"I don't know, sir. I have no expertise in that matter, after all, I'm just an average person, living my life as a citizen that abide the laws," she said with her eyes that were cold as ice frost. I was mesmerized by it before I cleared my throat.

"Well then, thank you for your cooperation, Miss Duncan. You're free to go," I said as I opened up the door and she got up from her seat.

"Thank you, Mr. Hunt, for dragging me out of my bed this lovely morning," she said while shooting dagger at me.

"My pleasure that you are kindly and calmly follow me to the station. I hope that you stay safe, Miss Duncan. Maybe fate will let us meet again in the future," I said as I guided her to the front door.

"I hope so too," she said saccharinely as her eyes were telling me that Don't you ever call me again.

"Have a nice day," I said as I put out my hand to shake with her.

"And to you too," she said as she was looking at my hand. She was hesitated at first but she shook it. Miss Duncan walked out of the station and I rushed over to the forensic lab to find Noah.

"Noah, I need you to sample these fingerprints for me," I said as I gave her the synthetic skin that I put on earlier.

"Jeez, what's got into you early in the morning?" He said as he took the skin and put it under the UV lights and scanned it. A few moments later, the result popped on the camera.

"Okay, let's see here. Name Mia Duncan. Age: 24 years old. Address: Split, Croatia. Born Place: Edinburgh, Scotland. Past criminal crime: none. Well, I think it is safe to say that she's clean, bro. We can't relate her to the crime. She's off the hook," Noah said as he laid back in his chair. I gripped my hand at my side as I looked at her profile picture. It was so much familiar to the woman that was in the video then the real prostitute itself.

"Thanks, I appreciate it," I said before patting his shoulder.

"Anytime for my partner," Noah said he fist-bumped me and I went out of the lab. I looked over the window that was showing the road that Miss Duncan was walking and she was talking on the phone. She looked intense but still pretty. A damsel in distress indeed, but this time she was the bad guy. My jaws ticked before I went inside to get some coffee after an eventful morning. I can still feel the electric vibration of my hands when we shook hands. That was strange indeed…

Mia Duncan's POV

"And to you too," I said before looking at his offered hand. I was thinking for a moment before I took it. I mean there was no harm done as they do not have all the information about me. I shook it before went outside the station. Detective Hunt went inside as I was walking down the foyer of the station. Suddenly, my phone rang. I picked it up and it was a number that I knew so well.

"Well, do they get you?" She asked.

"what do you think if I am still answering your phone call?" I said back, rolling my eyes at the phone.

"hahaha, I know they would never get you. You are one of my best recruits. You're invincible and I am sure you can do anything with that talent of yours. Anyway, I have a new mission for you," she said as I was looking around for a coffee shop to get some breakfast as my stomach was growling as it needed to be fed.

"what's the assignment?" I said as I furrowed my eyebrows together before walking to the café down a few blocks across the street.

"I need you to go to the Mestrovic Gallery and take out Mr. John Pravin. He was an illegal arms dealer that helps the rebels in Riga and I need him out as it will make things complicated when he arrived there tomorrow. Fortunately, he will be attending an exhibition tomorrow evening and you will be going there to eliminate him. I will send the gadgets that you need. Until then," she said before hanging up the phone.

"So much for having fun after that one," I said as I was entering the little coffee shop.

"Hola, cómo estás?" I said as I ordered a black coffee and 2 chocolate croissants. I took my order and sat by the window. There were not many people at this hour of the morning as the rush hour just passed by. I was looking out the window of people that are rushing toward their workplaces, children were going to school and pedestrians that were taking their morning walk.

I sipped on my black coffee before taking out my earphones to listen to a morning chill vibe instrumental. I closed my eyes as I imagine myself being at the beach with my family and friends. Mother, father, Lena, and Eric. They were all smiling at me as I hold back my tears. I smiled at the memories that will never come true. I opened my eyes and exhaled a long breath. I finished my coffee and croissants and thanked the barista before exiting the café.

I just realized that I went to the station with Detective's car as I have no other transportation to go back to my apartment. I looked around for a bus stop sign and hoping that they have one at my nearest location. I goggled my position and fortunately, I can walk from my current location to my apartment.

So, I took some turns among the alleys and was walking calmly to get to my destination. After a few turns, I felt like I was being followed by someone. When I turned around, there was no one to be found. I rolled my eyes at that attempted kidnapper or robber as I wished they did not want to die early. I was walking before someone cornered me into a dead end.

"What do we have here?" One of the guys asked me.

"Looks like we have someone to get it off with, fellas," the other one said before 4 of them laughed. I smirked at them.

"Oh, feisty. I like," he said before they dropped their belongings as they were advancing onto me.

"Look, boys, I don't have time to play right now. so, if anyone wants to see tomorrow, I suggest you leave," I said calmly.

"We see who needs to leave, señorita," the obvious leader said as he was advancing on me.

"you wish for it," I said before I dropped my handbag and walked towards them.

everything was happening in the flash. The leader was advancing on me as he was trying to grab my waistline, I ducked and punched his stomach as heavy as an elephant that made him writhed in pain. The next one, I got on his shoulder and kicked his knees outward and landed on his shoulder before snapping his neck. Then, I pushed myself to the skin to kick both of them in the face. They were on the ground but they would not give up easily. I smirked.

"It looks like you need more of that," I said before I took out pins, poisoned with sleeping dose before I threw at them. Each of the pins has stuck at their arms and in an instant, they all fell asleep, well except for one that neck was broken.

"I think that was enough of violence, Miss Duncan," that familiar voice was coming from behind.

SHIT! It's Detective Liam Hunt!
