Mia Duncan's POV
"Well, speechless, aren't we? You were so eager just now before you listened to my voice. Miss me?" Marina asked as she was laughing wickedly at the end of the line. My heartbeat was beating so fast that I kept quiet. After a few minutes, Liam noticed my quietness before he stood up and went to my side. He touched my shoulder and my heart relaxed.
"Why are you calling me on Marco's phone?" I asked her as Liam supported me from behind. She laughed again before talking to me.
"Mia, Mia, oh sweet Mia. You've never changed. I guess that's a blessing. How's life? Getting the thing that you deserved?" Marina still baiting me.
"What do you want, Marina? I am not up to your game," I said as my blood boiled now. I can't let anything happened to Marco. If she gets Marco's phone, that means he's in danger and it's all my fault all over again.
"I tell you to want, why don't you and your little partner come to meet me at the bar that we used to go to went we were young adults," she said as sweet that she can be.
"Why I should meet you?" I asked as I wanted to look at the angle that she wanted to play at.
"can't I just want to see my dear old friend if she's doing alright with her new partner?" She asked as I looked at Liam.
"I knew he could hear me, tell him I said hi. Celtic Bar. 9 PM. Don't be late or else," was the last thing that she said before the line ended. I hang up the phone to look at the number. It was Marco's. I put the phone down before I went out of the study.
"Ah, milady. I have prepared dinner for you and the young master. Care to take it now?" My butler said before he looked at my pissed face.
"Is everything alright, miss?" He asked. I smiled at him before Liam appeared behind me.
"we will take the dinner now," I said as I pulled Liam to my side before we went to the dining hall.
We were having dinner as usual as I was sitting at the end of the table and Liam at the other end. It was hard to talk casually without the echo of the room. I would not like the servants to hear about our conversation. Liam cleared his throat and the echo took a few seconds to disappear. I looked up at him and was eye-signaled him.
'what is it?' I told him. He signaled at the clock and it was 8:30 Pm right now.
"Shit," I said as I got up from the table. Liam got up as well as we went out running from the hall into the garage. I was wearing a casual sweater with pants and Liam was in his casual button-down shirt and black denim. He even looked handsome without even trying.
"hurry, Liam, we don't want to miss her or she will kill Marco," I said as I went inside the black Ferrari of my father's. It has been forever but I always started it up and maintained the good quality of it. I went into the passenger side and Liam was the driver.
"go, go, go!" I said as Liam drove off from the garage and onto the streets to our destination.
We arrived 15 minutes from my house. It was a rush drive as Liam was happy to drive an expensive car. I rolled my eyes at him after he told me. I told him that he can keep the car but he refused it, telling me that I will bribe him if I did. I rolled again before Liam got into the parking and we went out to go to the bar.
"We can walk in the VIP line," I said as I took his hand and went to the bar. We walked right up to the entrance before the bouncer blocked us.
"This line is for VIP only," he said in Spanish. I looked up at him and glared at him. He immediately recognized me before letting me in.
"So sorry, Milady. Please go ahead," he said before I nodded at him. Liam wanted to walk as well before he stopped him again.
"he's with me," I said as I was waiting inside, looking around for Marina.
"yes, of course," he said before Liam was up behind me.
"why he was so afraid of you?" Liam asked but I don't want to answer that question right now. I need to focus on finding that traitor.
"look around, Liam. She might be around, somewhere," I said as I was looking around at the crowd. The crowd was intensely crowded tonight. I might relate it to the appearance of Marina and her goons in the club. There was a tic on my jaw that was moving before I looked up at Liam.
"I will be searching for her on this site and you're on the other one. Let's hope that we will meet her tonight," I said before we split up. I went through the dancing crowd as I was passing to get to the table. The lights in the club did not help my search for Marina.
The neon lights were playing around the dance floor before it stopped on a particular person. Everyone was oblivious to the light as it wants me to focus on me. I looked ahead and Marina was looking at me, smiling wickedly at me before she walked out of the dance floor. I followed her pursuit as she was heading into the private room.
Some bodyguards guarding the doors but they opened the door for me. I walked through the door and Marina was sitting right in front of me on the sofa. She was drinking a martini, dry, just like how she liked it 6 years ago.
"Hello, Marina," I said as I was trying to look stoic as I could. She was the reason that I was in this mess, in this organization that I have to kill people.
"haha, very funny. Enough chit chat, where's Marco?" I asked as I looked at her murderously. She just smiled as she was sipping on her drink before putting it down.
"well, aren't you a little bit rush? Why don't you enjoy a scotch or rum or whatever you want? You know, like you always have 6 years ago," she said as she was looking at me wickedly.
"I know you can never resist alcohol, Mia," she said as I was trying not to fall onto her trap.
"That was years ago. I am a changed woman now," I said as I looked at her hard. She chuckled before leaned into her sofa.
"really? And here I thought you have given up on your dreams to get out of the organization," she said as she looked at her nails before she pulled me by the collar of my sweatshirt.
"I was the one that killed Eric Hunt. I was supposed to be at your place and I was the one that supposed to have sex with that handsome detective that you keep around," she whispered before she went to my left ear.
"I was the one that ever rides him. He was amazing," she said before she looked at me.
"isn't he was wonderful?" She said before getting up and I was left stranded thereafter she told me about Liam.
"oh, one more thing. Liam loves anal sex. You should try it," she said before the door closed. I was left alone and I was speechless. For the first time, my fear and panic attack has come back into my life.
Liam Hunt's POV
I was having a drink at the bar as my search for Marina was useless. I never forget that face even after 6 years later when she disappeared after our act. I was foolish to never tell Mia about the truth.
The truth that I was once having an affair, a tryst with Marina Kasun. I wanted to tell her but she was so distracted to keep a straight head after the bomb that I will drop later. I was sipping on my beer when I spotted Marina at the end of the counter. I drank all my beer in one shot before paid and went to her side. I walked up to her to make sure that my eyes did not trick me after 3 glasses of beer.
"Aren't you supposed to be here?" I asked the lady at the bar was laughing at my remarks.
"and why is that, detective?" She asked me. I was star struck to hear that voice after for so long.
"you're a threat," I said as I was looking at her intensely. She lazily looked at me and was amused at my action.
"maybe but not to the world, but you," Marina said before she touched my chest and walked out of the bar. I looked at her retreating figure
"What stopping you now when you can't even stop your hands on me 6 years ago?" She asked as she looked at me before went out of the door. I was at awe too much that I did not even notice Mia came at me and turned me.
A pang was hitting my cheek and before I realized it, Mia had slapped me. Her eyes were teary before she went out of the back door
"Mia!" I called after her before running through the back door as well.
