Marco Conti's POV
I was out of the hotel that I have booked under my real name but with no proof to show myself, I have to figure something else. I have some stashed money in my bag but it's all I have. That bitch has caused enough damage for me now.
I went to the darker part of Athens to find someplace to lay low for the night. I might not have my ID but I need to make plans for the next move and how I should find that Anna or whoever she was.
I went to the local inn that was not too crowded for my taste. I walked through the lobby and there were only some people that were going into their rooms as I went to the counter.
"hi, room for one please?" I asked in Greek. I knew that it will be handy someday when I learned this language.
"What's your name?" He asked as he was writing something.
"Marco, Marco Thorn," I said as I handed the passport. I knew that I have to keep my guards up as I might not know when I will get stuck again.
"that will be 20 euros per night, is that okay with you?" He asked me as I looked at him, surprised by the expensive price.
"Are you kidding me? It would usually cost me 10 euros a night. How come it is twice the normal price?" I asked him as I looked at him. He looked at me bored.
"Well, it was the holidays, everyone wants to be in Greece where it's warm and nice than any other parts of the world. well, except for tropics but you got my point," he said as he shrugged.
"so, do you want the room or not?" He asked me as I drummed my fingers against the counter. Without thinking, I nodded.
"fine, just give me the farthest room that you can get me," I asked him as he went to take the keys, most of them were gone.
"Okay, here's the key and the bill. Do you pay card or cash?" He asked me. I grunted as I took out the last remaining cash of euros that I have.
"Here, just keep the change," I said as I took the keys and the bill that he had issued for me.
"Enjoy your stay," he said as I went deeper into the inn. I was going up the stairs and I got out of people's way that was going up and down the stairs. I looked at the keys, it was room 530. I clutched the keys and I went to find it. Once I found it, I unlocked the door and I went inside.
It was dark and mundane as it was early in the morning. I was not up for a sweep across the room as I know that it was not dangerous, I told myself and I was too tired to think about anything else.
My eyelids were heavy so I went to the bed as I dropped my bag to the side and crashed it without having a second thought. I was immediately claimed by sleep.
I woke up with a startled as I looked around the room. I was still dressed in my black hoodie and denim as well as my sneakers. I got up of the bed as I looked around me. It was not a bad room with a little fridge and a set of tables. One door leads to the bathroom and my bed was a twin size bed. It was a good cover for me.
I rubbed my face as I looked at my watch. It was 10 AM and I have been dying to get some shower. I stretched before I went to the bathroom as I took off my hoodie and pants before stepping into the shower.
I opened the faucet and I let the cold shower hit me. It was nice. Greece did not have the usual weather that most places have during winter but I think I can get used to it. I closed my eyes as the only thing that I can saw was Anna's big blue eyes.
I opened my eyes as I rubbed my hands on them. Get your head in the game, Marco. You need to find her and if you keep thinking about her like that, you cannot deliver the message that you need to do.
I shampooed and washed my body before I closed the faucet. I looked at the remaining drips of water and I sighed. I need to keep moving. Staying here will be a risk that I don't want to get myself into. And the matter with Anna, I need to get help as well.
I went out of the shower and I went to look for towels. They were located inside the cabinet under the sink and I took one to wrap around my torso before I moved into the bathroom and I went to open my bag.
there was more cash, some clothing, and my passports. I need a plan and a fixed on before I can go on and on to find my sanctuary. I knew I could never go back to my childhood home but I know I might have some unfinished business with Anna.
"olay, let's see. I have 5000 USD and 2000 euros. I might last for 2 months if I spend like I was the king of the world or maybe less than that. But if I went to live like I was on the run and always find a way to pickpocket people, maybe I can get out of here and went somewhere less expensive," I said as I took a pant and a shirt. I put it on as I was trying to make a plan.
I need something to scribble on and write it down. I went to look for a pen and papers but they were not there. I gritted my teeth. I went to take out my phone but I fear that Lucca will track it. You never know what kind of friends that man has. One time, this White guy was a spy across the Atlantic ocean. I don't want to be exposed by him.
"Okay, I guess I have to make a note in my mind then," I said as I packed up my bag and stored some of the money that I need for an emergency. I cannot flash all the money that I have or I might be mugged. I went to the window as I looked down on the streets. It was not that crowded and my stomach grumbled for food. I need to eat something.
"eat first, then make my move," I said as I went out of the hotel before I stored my bag in the ceiling that I know people will not find it. well, at least not housekeeping. I went out of the room as I took my jacket and locked the door. I put on a baseball cap and I went to the lobby before exiting the building.
As I went across the street, I was looking, more like accessing my surroundings. There as two grandmas that were buying some cookies in the store in front of me. They were talking animatedly with the person that was on the cashier.
"yes, yes, it was nice and we have many more tourists. I hope that our national debt will be paid to that awful germans," one of them said. I smiled at that comment before they got out of the shop. I looked at the woman and she also has blue eyes and a big smile. but, not like the ones that Anna has.
stop it, you bitch, you need to focus, Conti! god, I might have been going far too long without a woman's company that I might go insane.
"hi, what can I get you?" She asked in Greek as I smiled at her.
I would like some chocolate muffins and a black coffee please," I said as I looked at her. She raised an eyebrow.
"no sugar or cream?" She asked as she put my muffins into a bag. I nodded.
"Okay, that would be 7 euros total," she said as she handed me the food. I thanked her as I paid her before I got out onto the streets. I took a seat at the vacant table and I was enjoying my muffin and coffee when I saw a familiar figure was walking down the streets.
I lowered my sunglasses as I looked at her walking. It was no doubt; the auburn hair that shone under the morning light and that long legs that I have dreamed to wrap it around my torso.
I dumped my muffins and sipped on my coffee in a long chug before I put it into the trash can. I took my jacket and then went to follow that woman in question. I need to know where she was going.
I followed at a safe distance and I looked at the figure was talking to someone in a business suit. They were shaking hands and I saw the way that man ogled my mark. Blood boiled in my veins. I was eavesdropping to hear what she was talking about with him.
"Thank you for joining us today, Ms. Honchar. If you could just follow me," he said as he went to put his hand onto her lower back. luckily, that woman knows to get out of his hand as he followed inside. The company was 'Apollo's Life'. I smirked before I turned around and headed to the cybercafe. Time to make my move.
