Anastasia Honchar's POV
After I caught the real ID, I don't turn it in. I don't know why. Usually, I would love to get out of the job as quickly as possible but this time, I think I wanted to see him again but under different circumstances.
I was walking down to the pharmaceutical company that Alfred asked Val to ask me to investigate. Considering that my specialty was Chemistry, making poison and drugs for the agents that will go on a mission, it will be nice to go there for an interview that conveniently appeared in my mail. I gritted my teeth.
"Val," I asked him as he was typing away on his computer. seriously, in one day, I never see him running off somewhere or doing nothing other than typing over his computer.
"what's up?" He asked me. I shoved him the offer letter that was stating I have an interview tomorrow at 11 AM.
"what's this? I never ask for a job interview but apparently, fate has another thing for me," I said as I put the letter onto the table. He just looked at it as if it was no big deal.
"so, what about it?" I asked him.
"what about what?" He replied. I rolled my eyes.
"This," I pointed at the letter. "do you have anything to do with this?" I asked him as he just looked at me, bored to death. sometimes, I wanted to smack that guy.
"well, if you asked me, I was not the one that applied it for you, Alfred did," he said as he pointed at me before crossing his arms at me. I rolled my eyes.
"Alfred was far away from us, ocean big and he has the time to do this, I mean, come on, he was in jail!" I asked him as I looked at him. He arched his eyebrow at me.
"so, that did not stop him from getting what he wanted," he said as he returned to type on his computer. I closed it and took it.
"Hey, that's mine," he hissed at me. I smirked at him.
"Can you get me to talk to him?" I asked sweetly as I batted my eyelashes. He was narrowing his eyes at me.
"what do you want to do?" He asked skeptically.
"well, I think it was due time I talk to my guardian, right?" I smiled before he ordered me to give his laptop so that he could reach him. I thanked him before I went to the phone and he connected me to Alfred.
"Is Pluto a planet?" He asked. I smiled as I heard his voice. It was soothing, to say the least.
"no, because it has been going off from its axis," I said as he chuckled on the phone.
"well, well, look who's back in the game, huh?" He asked me as I rolled my eyes.
"yeah, and who's fault is that?" I replied before he laughed. I smiled as I listened to his voice.
"What happened to you?" I asked him as he knew that I have been dying to ask him. He sighed.
"well, Sabrina was in the bad condition and our condition has been worse than before. My friend has a speck of dirt on me so, here I am, giving myself up for the sake of you guys," he said as I gripped the phone.
"you don't have to do this. We all can just hide and start over," I said as I was not trying to burst into tears. He sighed again.
"no, it's the right thing and I don't want you guys to be in trouble. I will take all the blame and you guys will walk out freely," he said as I can hear he was coughing.
"Are you sick? god, Alfred, you're too old for prison let alone be in a restricted one," I said before he laughed again.
"well, you can never be too careful what they might do to me, so maybe getting sick was a good idea after all," he said. I smiled.
"so, about the new mission—"
"It was not a mission, Anna. You will be working there. My friend will be ready to release me from prison if I closed the organization," he said to me. I gripped the phone again.
"so, this was not—"
"no, it was not a cover and not a job for you to finish. Why do you think all of your friends have left the country?" He asked me before my motors got me thinking. Mia has been assigned to find Liam Hunt that turned out to be her husband. Alina was assigned to go back to her country and she found her happiness there. Sabrina on the other hand.
"well, what about Sabrina? She was detained, remember?" She cannot leave her own country," I said as I was looking at the wall. There was zero interest in it.
"Well, she made some mistake but she will be free after this, even she needs to get over in 5 years before she can see her husband again," he replied.
"wait, husband?" I asked him. He chuckled.
"Yeah, they got married before her husband went back to the States. I'm telling you, it was worth the risk," he replied. I sighed.
"and now, she will be stuck in France for god knows what she was doing," I said as I was leaning on the wall.
"well, are you going to the interview or not?" He asked me. I bit my lips. well, if I was to let go of the organization, I might as well go to that interview.
"Okay, you baited me but I was doing this so you can be free not because I wanted to," I said. He chuckled.
"Whatever the reason, I know you will strive that interview," he said before I said goodbye to him and hung up. I was glad that he was found but I forgot to ask him one thing about Camila. perhaps, he has another thing for her. I shrugged before I went to my room and get ready for my interview. Val was still on his laptop but I was so tired that I don't care to ask before I went to sleep.
The next day, I have been up and running on the treadmill for hours as I was nervous. I never get nervous but I did not know why my adrenaline rush was high up today. I need to make sure that I was calm down when I went to the interview.
after the running, I went to take a warm bath soak as I was trying to make sure that all I know about everything that I know when I was a Chemistry student once upon a time. I smiled at the memory as it was not only a distant memory.
I graduated with honors from University of Verona, Italy and my senior thesis about the insects that can be used in the dead bodies was good poison for anyone but as well as a cure for merciless venom. I did get an award for that but it was in my room back in Slovenia. I shook that memory away. I wonder what happened to my bedroom back at home.
I took a deep breath before I submerged myself. I knew that many things have been going on in my life and right now I just wanted to get this ass-kicking job and I will be free. Total freedom. But will my soul be free as well?
I got out of the bath and get dressed. Luckily, Val has offered to drop me on the streets. I thanked him before I got out of the car and waved him goodbye before he rolled down the window.
"Good Luck, Anna!" He said. I smiled as I laughed at him.
"you know I always do," I said as I crossed my arms. Something twinkled in his eyes.
"well, this might be the biggest luck of them all," he said and before I can ask him more questions, he drove off. I shook my head before I went to the building that I was supposed to be getting an interview.
I walked down the streets as there were not many people and the streets were quaint with its local inn and shops, I feel like I can see myself living here for the rest of my life but I think I might want to go back home.
"Ms. Honchar, you're on time," he said. I smiled at him.
"I hope I was not late," I said.
"Thank you for joining us today, Ms. Honchar. If you could just follow me," he said as he was putting his hand on my lower back. I shook it off subtly before we went inside the building. Wish me luck!
