Chapter 20 The Town

Chapter 20

The absence of light meant the absence of its warming touch. When a shadow enters it is dissolve into the surrounding darkness. It was dank and the only sound was the dripping water. But deeper in the darkness tiny lights can be perceived from the overhead clumps of moonstones.

Inside this dark cave a youth stood in front of a huge creature, all around them are mangled corpses of spider like beings. Breathing heavily and a little fatigue, the youth bravely faced the Iron Frost spider queen.

"It's you and me now…"

Shin Jiao said as he ate a pill to replenish his strength.

"Growl…"

The spider queen raised its sickle like leg and began her onslaught.

But each swing of its legs although strong, but in the eyes of Shin Jiao, it's too slow.So he dodge them easily and without any waste of energy.

"I thought this Iron Frost spider queen is tough, but…"

He didn't finished his words, when suddenly he felt the temperature dropped. This made Shin Jiao a little surprised, although he knew that the creature has a combined water and wind attribute which is ice. He still didn't know if the creature uses it for attack or defense.

"Oh, crap! This is ice breath!"

Then all of a sudden a stream of cold breath rushed out from the queen's mouth. Freezing a wide range of area in front of it. After some time the temperature gradually returned to normal. The Iron Frost spider queen slowly slumped down as its head was separated from its humongous body and rolled away. And Shin Jiao can be seen standing at the back of the queen spider's body with a drawn sword.

When the queen's ice breath was release he actually disappeared from where he stood and in an instant reappear at the top of the Iron Frost spider queen's back. And before the creature could react he slashed downwards and decapitate its head.

After killing the queen spider he busily took some of the demon cores around him, specially the demon core of the queen spider. As he was busy harvesting he was interrupted by some footsteps. And upon looking back he saw Allen Luke and his group.

"Oh, you guys are still here? What a timing, you can help yourself with the rest of the demon cores. There are far too many for me."

The group was stupefied by the scene of carnage in front of them and the youth who happily harvested the cores.

"Brother Shin, you… you killed them all?"

Allen with disbelieving eye asked just wanting to hear the answer. But his heart was troubled, as Shin Jiao is still too young to hold this much power.

"Umn… but you also helped me. So, let's share this, okay? I already got my share, the remaining ones are all yours."

"Thank… Thank you brother. Though we really didn't do that much. But…"

Shin Jiao raised his hand to stop Allen from finishing his words.

"No need for that. I have just one favor… could you tell me where the town is?"

After receiving a simple map, Shin Jiao once again thanked the group and went their separate ways. As he didn't want to intrude more on the business of the 5 clans and their young cultivators.

Since he knew where the general direction of the town and he was not in a hurry. He just slowly took his time to walk. On his way he harvested some of the medicinal plants in the area.

The next morning…

As he continued his leisurely travel, he sensed that something is wrong. Then using his goggles he discovered that 2 kilometers away from him, a group of men are fighting against a demon beast with 5 snake like heads. These men are clearly protecting the two people behind them inside a carriage.

"That's a hydra, and if there is a carriage there that means I'm near a road. Hmmm… that hydra is level 5 it shouldn't be in this place. Someone might be controlling it then."

After analyzing the situation, Shin Jiao tried to search carefully and found a person hidden on one of the tree branches at the front of the group. If he didn't search the trees thoroughly it'll be hard for even him to find the person as the person hid his spiritual fluctuations.

"An assassin huh. If I take him out, maybe I can ask these people to help me to enter the town."

With that idea in mind, Shin Jiao made his move, activating his stealth he rushed towards the man's location.

The forest has tall and thick tress all over and on top of one of the trees sits a thin sinister looking man wearing a green robe. His gazed is down at the soldiers below as they desperately fought against his summoned beast. On the ground multiple soldiers lay, some are heavily wounded and some already lost their lives.

"Captain we can't hold on much longer, you have to take the little master and madam to the town now!"

"Yes, captain we will try our best to hold this beast here. Go!"

"Guys, I… I…"

The indecisiveness can be seen on their captain's eyes. He didn't want to leave his men just to escape. He wanted to fight with them, clenching his sword he look at one of his men and suddenly grab his collar then threw the stupefied soldier towards the carriage.

"Go! Escape now!"

With that shout the captain nod at the soldier whom he threw and with a nod the soldier understood what to do nest.

"Captain!"

The rest of the soldiers have their morale increase by this action from their captain.

"Men! We fight to the death! Let's go!"

With renewed vigor the soldier charged towards the hydra while the carriage escaped towards the city.

The assassin sneered at the effort of the soldier.

"You think you can get away from my grasp. Hah! No one ever escaped me alive."

The assassin was about to make his move and finish the remaining soldier when all of a sudden he saw a youth holding a strange looking artifact suddenly appear beside him and the artifact is pointed at his head.

"Hello! Goodbye!"

With a pull of the trigger, the assassin's head disappear and his headless body fell down to the ground with a loud thud.

The soldiers was startled upon noticing a falling body from the tree not too far away and the sudden disappearance of the demon beast.

"A summoned creature, this is bad. Only one of the 5 clans have the ability to use summoned creatures. Why would they attack the city mayor's wife and child?"

The captain thought to himself. Sensing that they are in a dangerous situation, he decided to report this to the mayor.

Then from the tree top Shin Jiao jumped down which startled the soldiers.

"Are you guys okay?"

Shin Jiao asked as he dusted his shoulders while walking towards the soldiers.

"Who are you?"

The soldiers are on guard as they saw the youth. But after noticing Shin Jiao's aura and seeing that he is a mortal, they calmed down.

"Hi! I don't really mean no harm. I'm Shin Jiao and I was lost in the forest. When I saw you guys being attacked I noticed that guy from there."

Shin Jiao explained what happened. As he narrate his story to soldiers their faces began to show disbelief. The question that lingers on their minds is, how could a mortal kill a high level cultivator? But seeing that Shin Jiao doesn't mean them harm they just let him join them.

Not long after that, they arrived at the town's gate.

"This is the gate of the town of Dis. In behalf of our master the mayor, we thank you for saving us."

The captain courteously bowed.

"No problem. See you later guys!"

After entering the town each went on their own way.

Shin Jiao was awed and a little excited to be inside a human civilization at last. But as he look around, amazement and glee immediately bloomed on his face.
