Chapter 143 – Akari and Ayame

The next day, Ayame took Akari to go do some grandmother and granddaughter bonding while Takei and Akihiko did their own things that were related to their own bonding between grandfather and grandson.

It was the first time that Akari was alone with Ayame, so she was a bit worried about what to expect even though she knew that Ayame was a good person.

Takei and Akihiko would typically be with her when she talked to Ayame, but now it was only Akari and her grandmother-in-law.

Today, it was decided that they would go out to a nice coffee place to sit back and relax.

Akari inferred that this was most likely a way for them to chat about all the things on each other's agenda.

She had chosen to go with a nice and comfortable outfit that consisted of jean shorts and one of Takei's old t-shirts that she had "borrowed" from him.

Tying her hair into a bun, Akari wanted to go into that coffee shop and attract the least amount of attention possible.

Even though she was used to those leering looks from other males, the only person she wanted to look at her like that was Takei.

"Akariiii, let's go inside~"

Ayame's cheerful voice resounded next to Akari as the surprisingly youthful grandmother pulled her into the coffee shop.

After they had ordered their respective drinks (which were Frappuccinos), the two sat down in seats that were facing each other.

Breaking the silence, Ayame decided to ask Akari about the first thing on her agenda. "What are the things that you like about my grandson? Your grandmother would quite like to know~"

"A-ah, um..." Akari stammered. "Where did this come from?"

Ayame mischievously smiled. "A grandmother's curiosity~"

Seeing that Ayame really wanted to know about the specifics, Akari explained everything about Takei that she liked.

"I like how even though he acts indifferent about everything, he actually cares a whole lot without directly showing it," Akari explained. "He keeps tidy and makes sure that everyone around him is safe and happy."

Akari then smiled and blushed like a true maiden-in-love. "He's such a gentleman, which has its pros and cons. Takei is always respectful about my boundaries and always caters to my needs and wants, but that has its drawbacks as well. He's a little bit too respectful about my boundaries."

Pouting immensely, Akari muttered out the last part. "What's a girl gotta do to be attacked..."

Akari had been hoping for Takei to let loose and attack her for a long time, but his self-restraint was not to be underestimated.

"Hmm, that is a problem," Ayame mulled. "Have you tried attacking and seducing him?"

Akari sullenly nodded. "Yeah, his defense is just too strong. I can't seem to get through."

Taking a sip of her coffee, Ayame rubbed her temples in a very cute and alluring way. "This grandson of mine... Anyways, you can ask a question next. Let's ask each other questions until we're satisfied."

Since this was an opportunity to learn more about Takei's family, Akari was excited to learn more about her beloved's family.

"When did you and Takei's grandfather marry?"

"Age 23 and 24, respectively. We married as soon as we graduated from college."

It could be said that Ayame and Akihiko married early, but they were so in love with each other that no one else could say anything to them.

"Oh, it's my turn next!" Ayame's eyes sparkled. "When do you two youngsters plan on getting married?"

In response, Akari began to get bashful. "U-um, maybe after college as well?"

"That's a good idea," Ayame agreed. "However, getting married as soon as possible is also an option?"

Akari mulled over the thought for a second before shaking her head. "Takei said we should take this nice and slow, so that's exactly what we'll do. There's no need to rush our relationship."

Hearing such a responsible statement coming from Akari made Ayame extremely happy. "I'm so blessed with good grandchildren."

Once that question was finished, Akari proceeded onto the next one. "When did you have kids and why did you decide to have kids?"

Ayame seemed to have expected this question, as a result of her confident expression. "We had kids after Akihiko managed to land a high-paying job and when our lives and financials were stable. As for why we wanted kids, we wanted to have something as a physical manifestation of our love. It was getting to that point in life where another family member was greatly sought-after."

That does sound reasonable. Having kids after stability in your life is a very good idea. Maybe Takei would be willing to after he gets a good job? He needs to hurry up and attack me first, Akari thought.

"Looks like it's my turn again," Ayame said. "Can you tell me about how Takei confessed to you?"

Takei had told Akari about how his grandmother was still a pure maiden at heart even though she was getting there in age, so Akari had at least somewhat expected this conversation.

The real question was, who wouldn't expect this situation?

Human beings are naturally curious creatures, so it shouldn't be a surprise for them to seek knowledge.

For a person who loved romance stories and was a bundle of curiosity, it should be obvious that Ayame was going to ask Akari one way or another.

Seeing how animated Ayame got after asking Akari about the confession event, Akari knew that there was no other way out of it.

"Well you see, it started with..." Akari began to explain the whole confession event, which took a while since Takei planned out a lot of stuff.

After a few more back-and-forth questions, the sun was already beginning to set.

Noticing that, the grandmother and granddaughter duo headed home in a happy mood.

By the end of the day, they had bonded several times and learned many things about each other.

For that, Akari was truly happy as she was able to connect to Takei just a teensy bit more.
